On 21 February, International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is a global annual observation held.

The day is celebrated to raise awareness about cultural diversity and linguistic and to promote multilingualism. The day was announced in November 1999 by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientic and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
