AUGUST 7 : National Handloom Day • First Observed : 2015 in chennai • To generate awareness about importance of India’s handloom industry. • To commemorate the Swadeshi Movement which was launched on this date in 1905 • aimed at reviving domestic products and production processes. • The first National Handloom Day was inaugurated on 7 August 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Bharatiya Janata Party PRESIDENT AMIT SHAH Parliamentary Chairperson Narendra Modi Lok Sabha leader Narendra Modi (Prime Minister) Rajya Sabha leader Arun Jaitley (Finance Minister) Founded 6 April 1980 (38 years ago) Formerly Known Bharatiya Jana Sangh(1951−1977) Janata Party (1977−1980) 6 Vetrii IAS Study Circle TNPSC CURRENT AFFAIRS PROFILE OF STATES August -2018 DEFENCE, NATIONAL SECURITY AND TERRORISM BALLISTIC MISSILE INTERCEPTOR AAD SUCCESSFULLY FLIGHT TESTED • Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted the successful test of the Ballistic Missile Interceptor Advanced Air Defence (AAD) from Abdul Kalam Island (formerly known as Wheeler Island), Odisha. • The endo-atmospheric missile, capable of intercepting incoming targets at an altitude of 15 to 25 km was launched against multiple simulated targets of 1500 km class ballistic missile. • The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa witnessed the flight test along with other senior officials. About DRDO h Sanjay Mitra (Present Defence Secretary) is the present Chairman of DRDO. h DRDO -Headquarters in New Delhi. h It was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production with the Defence Science Organisation. h It is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Vetrii IAS Study Circle 7 TNPSC CURRENT AFFAIRS August -2018 PROFILE OF STATES THE SUCCESSFUL TEST ON NAVAL LCA MARKS A MILESTONE • The indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Naval Prototype 2 (NP2) successfully landed on the Shore Based Test Facility (SBTF) in Goa. This trial is a milestone towards completion of CCT (Carrier Combat Trials) trials of LCA Navy. • The Arrestor Hook System (AHS) for Ship Deck operations of LCA Naval version was designed and developed by Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) wing of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). • The combined effort by HAL, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Center for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC), Regional Director Aeronautical Quality Assurance (RDAQA) and Navy led to the success. • Navy will conduct a series of such trials and the Naval LCA is expected to be on INS Vikramaditya by the end of 2018. h A Light combat aircraft is a light multirole military aircraft most coming from advanced trainers that have been modified or designed for engaging in light combat missions, either in light strike or attack missions, reconnaissance or interdiction roles while some keeping its trainer role. h They are also slower than their bigger counterparts capable only of subsonic speed though some are capable of reaching March 1. MAITREE 2018 JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE BETWEEN INDIA AND THAILAND HELD IN THAILAND • Exercise ‘Maitree’ is a joint military exercise between Indian Army and Royal Thai Army and is running on in Thailand from 6 to 19 August 2018. • Maitree 2018 was platoon level exercise that comprises of infantry component. • Aim:- To develope mutual understanding and bonhomie between the two armies in order to counter terrorism. 8 Vetrii IAS Study Circle TNPSC CURRENT AFFAIRS PROFILE OF STATES August -2018 Exercise Maitree 2018 h Maitree 2018 was platoon level exercise that comprises of infantry component. Its opening ceremony was started with familiarization of organization and display of weapons and equipment of both armies. It mainly emphasized to hone tactical and technical skills in joint counter insurgency and counter terrorist operations in rural and urban scenario under United Nations (UN) mandate. h The exercise laid due emphasis on increasing interoperability between forces from both countries which is considered crucial for success of any joint operation. Both armies also jointly trained, planned and executed series of well-developed tactical drills for neutralization of likely threats that may be encountered in urban warfare scenario.

    Sports Authority of India Bopanna-Sharan assured of silver; Ankita takes bronze; Good start in men’s golf Jakarta/ Palembang, August 23: The morning session of the fifth day of the 18th Asian Games brought good tidings from the tennis courts as Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan made the final of the men’s doubles, while Ankita Raina picked up a bronze despite losing her semi-final to top-seeded Chinese Zhang Shuai. In shooting, 15-year-old Shardul Vihan had entered the final of the men’s Double Trap scheduled for later in the afternoon. In men’s golf, which began on Thursday, 17-year-old Aadil Bedi got off to a fine start with a 3-under 69 that placed him Tied-4th in the four-round competition, which will conclude on Sunday. There are four medals at stake, individual in men and women and the team events. Among girls, the best Indian was Diksha Dagar, whose 1-under 71, positioned her Tied 8th. Tennis – Rohan Bopanna and Divij enter men’s doubles final; Ankita takes bronze India’s top-seeded men’s doubles pair Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan entered the gold medal match of the men’s doubles event, beating Japan’s Kaito Uesugi and Sho Shimambukuro 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 in 72 minutes. The two pairs shared the first two sets and then the Indians won the Tie-breaker 10-8 to enter the final. They are now assured of silver medals. Ankita Raina lost a close semi-final to top seeded China’s Zhang Shuai and had to be content with a bronze medal in women’s tennis at the 18th Asian Games.

    Hon’ble Ms. Justice Gita Mittal Justice Gita Mittal was born on 9th December, 1958 to parents who were in academics. An alumna of the Lady Irwin Higher Secondary School [Science batch of 1975], Lady Shri Ram College For Women [BA (Eco. Hons.) 1978] and the Campus Law Centre, Delhi University [(LL.B) 1981], she was appointed as an Additional Judge of Delhi High Court on 16th July, 2004. Prior to her appointment as Additional Judge, she had an illustrious legal practice in all courts and other judicial forums since 1981. Justice Mittal was confirmed as a permanent judge on the 20th of February, 2006. As a judge, she has presided over several jurisdictions including heading a Division Bench hearing criminal appeals involving life and death sentence references; matters of the Armed Forces; Cooperative Societies; Criminal Contempt References; Criminal Appeals; Death References; Company Appeals; Writ Petitions and Letters Patent Appeals relating to the Armed Forces. She currently presides over a Division Bench hearing writ petitions arising out of orders of the Central Administrative Tribunal and other service matters. Since August, 2008, Justice Gita Mittal has been a member of the Governing Council of the National Law University, Delhi. She is also a member of the Governing Council of the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi since 2013 and has been nominated to its Administrative Committee. General Management of water resources is vital to the holistic development of the State due to the growing drinking water needs and industrialisation, in addition to the needs of fisheries, environmental flows and community uses. Taking into account the limited availability of water and increasing demand for various uses, the need for creating new irrigation facilities at feasible locations and modernising, improving and rehabilitating the existing irrigation infrastructure assumes great importance. The Government is continuously striving to improve the service delivery of the irrigation system and to increase the productivity, through improving the water use efficiency, participation of farmers in operation and maintenance, canal automation, benchmarking studies and performance evaluation studies and building the capacity of Water Resources Department officials and farmers. In addition, the Government is taking up various schemes, viz., Rivers Inter-linking schemes, Artificial Recharge Schemes, Flood Management Programme, Coastal protection works, Restoration of Traditional water bodies, Augmenting drinking water supply, etc., to harness, develop and effectively utilise the seasonal flood flows occurring over a short period of time during monsoon. 1 2.0. In preparing young wrestlers (16-17 years of age) the design often follows a relatively well-developed system of training for adult masters of sport. In general, the youthful body is characterized by a high intensity cardio-respiratory and blood systems during physical stress. So far, no data on the impact of intense competitive activity on the dynamics of individual aspects of preparedness of young wrestlers is available. Our objective was to study the impact of competitive activity on the functional training state in young wrestlers. Keywords: Competitions, Rules, Female Wrestling, Factor Analysis, Technique Wrestlers, training, weight management. INTRODUCTION Wrestling is unique among athletics. It is considered to be one of the most physically demanding sports among high school and college athletics. Wrestling was one of the most favored events in the Olympic Games in Ancient Greece. From the Athens Games in 1896, until today, the wrestling events are also an important part of the modern Olympic Games. The International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) originated in 1912 in Antwerp, Belgium. The 1st NCAA Wrestling Championships were also held in 1912, in Ames, Iowa.
