(Palliser, #1) by Anthony Trollope The lyrics describe in the second person a young man's humiliation Can You Forgive Her? his girlfriend accuses him of still being in love with a childhood friend; the woman is "not prepared to share you with a memory", and is "going to go and get herself a real man instead". The title of the song derives from the Anthony Trollope novel Can You Forgive Her? the same name. The song became a top-ten hit in Denmark, Finland, Italy and Sweden. In marketing for the single, the Pet Shop Boys adopted a costume involving orange overalls and extremely tall pointy hats "dunce caps". The music video was directed by Howard Greenhalgh and depicted the duo wearing the costumes while wandering in a surreal partly computer- generated environment. Live action shots were filmed in a number of either well known or futuristic locations around London. They cross London Bridge in the rush hour crowd and also walk over the footbridge at Poplar station on the Docklands Light Railway. They are shown at the top of The Monument in the City of London. The park scenes were filmed in Battersea Park and one shot shows them standing in one of the remaining sculptures from the Festival of Britain fun fair. Pushed willy-nilly onto the marriage market, these wealthy Victorian ladies are faced with that eternal dilemma: how come all the hot, interesting guys are total dicks, and all the nice, bankable ones are kind of…blah? That may be why, in Can You Forgive Her? Whatever they were like as individuals — and I know Tolstoy, at least, could be a prize idiot at times — as novelists, their default mode is wry omniscience. In Can You Forgive Her? We see her lusting after a beautiful cad who - she is well aware - would probably end up gambling away her fortune and tossing her aside. All this is, of course, very, very bad. Trollope feels it to be bad. He disapproves. And yet he loves Glencora more than a little; he understands her right down to her smallest whim — and he wants us to love and understand her, too. Who would have thought that an page triple decker about the endlessly prolonged romantic vacillations of a frigid, upper-class maiden would be not only great fun, but moving and profound? I repeat: Eight. If this book were a person, it would be a blubbery shut-in Can You Forgive Her? in its own feces, waiting for the work crew to knock down the wall and bring in the special Can You Forgive Her? World harness. More damaging than the sheer bulk, however, is the generic inconsistency: you have the almost Can You Forgive Her? melodrama of the twinned central plot, which is then parodically duplicated in scenes of provincial clownishness involving an amorous widow. To my mind, this last subplot owes something to the older, 18th century Can You Forgive Her? novelists, while a few of the disreputable urban characters seem to have strolled over from a Dickens novel for a cameo they even come with Dickensian names like Grimes, Tombe and Pinkle.

Die so gewonnenen Musikdeskriptoren erlauben die Indizierung um- fassender Musiksammlungen mithilfe vielf¨altiger Bezeichnungen und erm¨oglichen es, Musikst¨ucke auffindbar zu machen und Sammlungen zu explorieren. Die vorgestell- ten Techniken bedienen sich g¨angiger Web-Suchmaschinen um Texte zu finden, die in Beziehung zu den St¨ucken stehen. Aus diesen Texten werden Deskriptoren gewon- nen, die zum Einsatz kommen k¨onnen zur Beschriftung, um die Orientierung innerhalb von Musikinterfaces zu ver- • einfachen (speziell in einem ebenfalls vorgestellten dreidimensionalen Musik- interface), als Indizierungsschlagworte, die in Folge als Features in Retrieval-Systemen f¨ur • Musik dienen, die Abfragen bestehend aus beliebigem, beschreibendem Text verarbeiten k¨onnen, oder als Features in adaptiven Retrieval-Systemen, die versuchen, zielgerichtete • Vorschl¨age basierend auf dem Suchverhalten des Benutzers zu machen.

This paper January 18th, 2021 conceptualizes this poorly studied phenomenon of cross- promotion connecting the music and film industries and uses a © 2021 content analysis of 119 music videos produced over a period of 33 Communication & Society years in order to study the importance of the artist and the movie ISSN 0214-0039 E ISSN 2386-7876 in the video, the various strategies developed in order to doi: 10.15581/003.34.3.47-60 accomplish its double promotional mission, and the specific www.communication-society.com formal and strategic features of this audiovisual format. DISTINGUISHING POSSIBILITIES FOR METAL SUB-GENRES Izvorni znanstveni članak / Original Scholarly Paper UDK: 78.036 "19/20" aBStraCt The different sub-genres of metal music, which have formed in the last decades, are not only of interest due to their diverse and unique characteristics, but also evidence a variety in metal music whereby its clichéd black and gloomy world gains a bit of color. This multitude of sub-genres will inevitably lead to musicians, fans and even researchers no longer being able to differentiate between the genres. With Viking, pagan, and folk metal, this interesting process of fusion is already taking place, although it is possible to distinguish Viking and pagan at least from folk metal. Keywords: instrumentation, metal sub-genres, musical analysis, popular music introDuCtion During the last few decades many different metal sub-genres have developed, from the classic, and especially from the extreme, metal genre. Comprising bands such as Ensiferum, Finntroll, Korpiklaani and Turisas – surprisingly only Finnish bands – so-called folk metal is one of these sub-genres, which became part of the metal mainstream during the 2000s.1 For Spracklen the popularity of Finnish folk metal is based on commercialization, while other possible reasons could be the national distinction from Norwegian black and Swedish death metal, or, at least in Finland, a phase of increased inclusion of folk elements in popular music. “The combination of a nationally institutionalized folk tradition and the transnational genre of […] metal”2 is also mentioned by Neilson as a reason for the success of Finnish folk metal.
