The old sailor is Yanez De Gomera, a Portuguese pirate and Sandokan’s companion in many adventures. The idea to narrate Salgari’s character at the beginning and at the end of the story, will also give a hypothetical reading of a mystery that has always intrigued thousands of readers worldwide: how Emilio Salgari was able to describe so well and with such abundance of exciting details, lands and countries that in reality he had never seen, having never been able to travel if not with his imagination. Another innovation in comparison to the previous versions of Sandokan will be the story of the genesis of the character, the creation of its myth by the English themselves, that he will fight against for his whole life. In fact we will narrate Sandokan as a child, son of a Malayan Rajah who fights against the control of his country by the English and for this reason he is killed together with all his family by some hired assassins Dayakis paid by James Brooke the white rajah of Sarawak, a man without scruples at the service of the Crown.

Prospero Still telling tales Italy’s enduring love affair with Emilio Salgari A century after his death, the author and his creations still occupy a prominent place in the cultural imagination Prospero Jun 19th 2017 | by A.V. LAST month, Neapolitan anti-mafia investigators announced plans to indict Francesco “Sandokan” Schiavone, a local gangster, for the killing of a policeman in 1989. Naples has long been used to Mr Schiavone and his ilk: he is already in jail for murder, along with dozens of his colleagues. What distinguishes Mr Schiavone is his nickname. “Sandokan” was first conjured by Emilio Salgari, a writer who died over a century ago. The Tigers of Mompracem are a band of rebel pirates fighting for the defense of tiny native kingdoms against the colonial powers of the Dutch and British empires. They are led by Sandokan, the indomitable Tiger of Malaysia, and his faithful friend Yanez de Gomera, a Portuguese wanderer and adventurer. Orphaned when the British murdered his family and stole his throne, Sandokan has been mercilessly leading his men in vengeance. But when the pirate learns of the extraordinary Pearl of Labuan his fortunes begin to change... As I turned the last pages of Emilio Salgari’s exciting adventure thriller “Sandokan: The Tigers of Mompracem,” I was convinced that there is no one more dangerous afloat or ashore than a pirate in love. The pirate in question is one Captain Sandokan, a former Indian prince everyone— including himself—calls the Tiger of Mompracem, dead set on avenging the deaths of his family at the hands of British colonists in India.

  • EMILIO SALGARI Walking-Mind, That Is, the Mind That Walks
PEN WALKING: EMILIO SALGARI Walking-mind, that is, the mind that walks. Emilio Carlo Giuseppe Maria SALGARI ( Verona, 21 August 1862 - Turin, 25 April 1912) Is the demonstration of how You can travel with thought, even if you are still standing on your armchair house. Eighty novels, bringing forth timeless characters such as: Sandokan, Yanez, Black Corsaro, Bruck, etc. Or, imaginative places such as: Monpracen, Labuan, etc. To him we dedicate this tribute through these works on a Historical exhibition, which honor the fervent imagination of exploration thanks to the mind. In practice, Salgari has never moved from its two regions, Veneto (Verona) Where he was born and Piedmont (Turin) where he migrated with his family and where he finally died. Yet, thanks to this "eye of the intellect", he managed to create a mythology that appears What fruit of "visions" and hallucinations. He explored as a Traveler-adventurer the lands of Africa and Southeast Asia. A boundless world, made up of pirates, heroes, mercenaries and idealists. It's universally Known to be the "father of Sandokan". For whoever reads his works yet now a century away, has the perception of a literary description and a geography that leaves no doubt about the veracity of places and characters. What He describes it is actually the "world of Salgari". The same where he became Walker and explorer. An authentic pilgrimage to fantasy. The life of Salgari, marked by serious family tragedies (suicide of his father, his son Romero e The author himself), seems to feed the fervent mind of the literary traveler, towards What we may call as an escape from reality.

Paperback, €29 and 35. The cover illustration for Emilio Salgari’s La Caduta di un impero, 1911 © Fototeca Gilardi/SuperStock The sea, the sea The life of an Italian Rider Haggard DAVID ROBEY The European adventure romance has a long history. With antecedents in the medieval romances of chivalry and their early modern successors, it gained a new lease of life from the international success of Walter Scott’s Waverley novels and flourished throughout the nineteenth century. For most of its history, it was typically set at some distance in the past, often a semi-mythical past. In the Middle Ages, that commonly meant the court of King Arthur, in the Italian Renaissance the crusade of the Emperor Charlemagne against the Moors. Scott drew on European history from the Crusades to the eighteenth century, Alexander Dumas on that of France from Louis XIV to Napoleon onwards. But with Europeans’ increasing awareness of the wider world reinforced by the accelerating race for colonies, the romance of the later nineteenth century shifted its interest to other continents: the distance became geographical and exotic. Jules Verne’s journey romances are an early example, beginning in the 1860s. Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island appeared in 1883; Rider Haggard’s African tales shortly after. The sea-roving novels of Joseph Conrad were the most refined literary expression of the trend, though he also wrote a popular adventure story with Ford Madox Ford mostly set in the West Indies, published in 1903 and titled, appropriately, Romance.

  • L'italia E Gli Italiani Nelle Opere Di Emilio Salgari

  • Salgari E Gli Studi Paraletterari in Italia
