Present Occupant: Mostly vacant except for the operations area which is occupied by the Federal Aviation Administration Facility Present Use: Federal Aviation Administration Facility Significance: Mill Valley Air Force Station (MVAFS) played a significant role in the United States Air Defense system during the period of the Cold War. The threat of Soviet nuclear and air force power warranted the construction of early warning radar stations throughout the country. With the opening of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the subsequent end to the Cold War, retrospective scholarship has labeled contributing defense systems, such as early warning radar, important features of United States military history. In fact, America's first major construction project as a result of Cold War hostilities was, apparently, the system of early warning radar stations of which Mill Valley Air Force Station was one. -

Chapter 1 the History of Military Engineering
CHAPTER 1 THE HISTORY OF MILITARY ENGINEERING 0101. Military engineers throughout the world are members of the profession of arms. They are concerned with maintaining the mobility of their own forces, denying the same to an enemy and enabling forces to survive in hostile environments. In more simple terms, military engineers permit friendly forces to “Live, Move and Fight” while denying the same to the enemy. Internationally, military engineers share a common background in a discipline that encompasses the use of demolitions and land mines, the design, construction and maintenance of defensive works and fortifications, roads and lines of communication, and bridges. They also provide water, power and other utilities, provide fire, aircraft crash and rescue services, conduct hazardous material operations, and develop maps and other engineering intelligence. 0102. The Canadian Military Engineers (CME) contribute to ensuring Canada remains strong at home, secure in North America and engaged in the world. We do this through ensuring the survival, mobility, and combat effectiveness of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). We conduct operations across the entire spectrum of conflict and serve wherever the need arises. We are proud to live up to the motto Ubique (which is Latin for “everywhere”). Engineers are highly trained team players who perform their tasks with determination and tenacity. Uniforms, tactics and equipment have changed considerably since the early days of the nation, but the Engineer’s greatest resource - the individual 'sapper'- has remained steady (the term sapper refers to a military engineer and is explained further in Chapter 3). 0103. Few other organizations, civilian or military, can claim to have contributed as much to the defence and development of this nation as the CME and our predecessors. -

This Order, published yearly, provides a listing of all regulatory and non-regulatory Special Use Airspace areas, as well as issued but not yet implemented amendments to those areas established by the Federal Aviation Administration. 2. Audience. Airspace and Aeronautical Operations, Air Traffic Controllers, and interested aviation parties. 3. Where Can I Find This Order. You can find this Order on the FAA employees’ Web site at https://employees.faa.gov/tools_resources/orders_notices/, and the FAA Air Traffic Plans and Publications Web site at http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/air_traffic/publications/. 4. What This Order Cancels. JO FAA Order 7400.8T, Special Use Airspace, dated February 7, 2011 is canceled. 5. Effective Date. February 16, 2012. 6. Background. Actions establishing, amending, or revoking regulatory and non-regulatory designation of special use airspace areas, in the United States and its territories, are issued by the FAA and published throughout the year in the Federal Register or the National Flight Data Digest. These actions are generally effective on dates coinciding with the periodic issuance of Aeronautical Products navigational charts. For ease of reference, the FAA is providing this compilation of all regulatory and non-regulatory special use airspace areas in effect and pending as of January 24, 2012. Since revisions to this Order are not published between editions, the Order should be used for general reference only and not as a sole source of information where accurate positional data are required (e.g., video maps, letter of agreement, etc.). -

Audience. This change applies to all Air Traffic Organization (ATO) personnel and anyone using ATO directives. This Order also applies to all regional, service area, field organizational elements, and any other organization involved in actions relating to Special Use Airspace. 3. Where Can I Find This Order. You can find this Order on the FAA employees’ Web site at https://employees.faa.gov/tools_resources/orders_notices/, and the FAA Air Traffic Plans and Publications Web site at https://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/air_traffic/publications/. 4. Legacy allows DoD to determine how to better integrate the conservation of irreplaceable biological, cultural and geophysical resources with the dynamic requirements of military missions. To achieve this goal, DoD gives high priority to inventorying, protecting, and restoring biological, cultural and geophysical resources in a comprehensive, cost-effective manner, in partnership with federal, state and local agencies and private groups. Legacy activities help to ensure that DoD personnel better understand the need for protection and conservation of natural and cultural resources and that the management of these resources will be fully integrated with and support DoD mission activities and the public interest.
