A M D G BEAUMONT UNION REVIEW SUMMER 2020 "And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: ―Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.‖ Well, we didn‘t see this one coming. Having written in the last REVIEW about ―a year like no other‖ which concludes in this Edition, no one thought we would be living through another. Over 90% of the BU have been confined and we have seen the cancellation of The HCPT and BOFs Pilgrimage to Lourdes, The Verdun Battlefield Tour, The BUGS Meeting at Westerham and Ant Stevens much anticipated Musical ―Streetwise‖: Now rescheduled for 24-29 May 2021. Much quoted at the moment ―We will meet again, Don‘t know where, Don‘t know when but I know we will meet again some sunny day: - Actually it looks like a cloudy day in the Autumn if we are lucky! I was amazed by the response to my Easter Message: I don‘t know whether it could be described as an ―Urbi et Orbi‖ moment but it did bring a huge response from OBs worldwide. One such from Patrick Agnew which I share with you:- ―Indeed. We have taken a lot for granted, during our years; much to be grateful for. Humanity is vulnerable to many things, some much worse than seen now. Globalization has it‘s many drawbacks, as well. Our precious little planet, in such perfect evolved balance, for so many eons, is also threatened by the economic ―progress‖ of mankind, whose numbers compound upwards and ravage resources, and are poisoning them.

Present Occupant: Mostly vacant except for the operations area which is occupied by the Federal Aviation Administration Facility Present Use: Federal Aviation Administration Facility Significance: Mill Valley Air Force Station (MVAFS) played a significant role in the United States Air Defense system during the period of the Cold War. The threat of Soviet nuclear and air force power warranted the construction of early warning radar stations throughout the country. With the opening of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the subsequent end to the Cold War, retrospective scholarship has labeled contributing defense systems, such as early warning radar, important features of United States military history. In fact, America's first major construction project as a result of Cold War hostilities was, apparently, the system of early warning radar stations of which Mill Valley Air Force Station was one.

  • Explore Hampton Court Palace and Legoland with All the Family
Explore Hampton Court Palace and Legoland with all the family How long do I need? Two to three days Where is it? Surrey and Windsor Highlights For a great family break, you need plenty to keep the whole party amused. Hampton Court Palace and Legoland both make an amazing day out, with plenty of attractions and rides to keep everyone in the family happy. If you have any energy left on day three you can visit Mercedes- Benz World museum – great for motor enthusiasts! Get behind the wheel of Mercedes-Benz, recapture the do-or-die spirit of Brookland’s 1930s motor circuit and tour G-BBDG - the 1,350 mph Delta Golf Concorde. Day one: Spend the day at Hampton Court Palace beside the River Thames The majestic highlight of the first day is a visit to Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace, in its splendid setting beside the River Thames. This magnificent palace both awes and entertains its visitors, just as it did in Tudor times. Henry took the riverside residence from his fallen favourite, Cardinal Wolsey, and held court here in the series of rooms which we can still see today. Family trails, costumed guided tours and a variety of special activities rekindle the spirit of what life was like here under England’s most colourful, much-married monarch. It’s easy to picture Henry himself in the imposing Great Hall used for banquets, receptions, balls and other functions; in The Great Watching Chamber, where bodyguards were stationed to manage the ebb and flow of courtiers; in the Chapel Royal where he worshipped every day and in the sometimes chilling Haunted Gallery.
