Northern Partnerships with Edmonton International Airport Northern Partnerships with Edmonton International Airport LONG-STANDING PARTNERSHIPS Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is privileged to be the Gateway to the North. Edmonton and communities in Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut benefit from many relationships – business to business, government to government, and community to community. The Edmonton Northern Partnership's vision is to build and strengthen committed relationships between Edmonton and northern communities in order to build relationships, expand trade, foster community and cultural growth and stimulate innovation. Members of the Edmonton Northern Partnership include the City of Edmonton, Edmonton International Airport, the University of Alberta, Edmonton Economic Development and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. EIA is working with Alberta Health Services and the Government of Northwest Territories Department of Health Services to develop airport processes that reduce the stress for medical-related travel for northern residents and their families. Further promoting the link between our communities, we also have permanent art displays in the terminal from northern artists and multiple pieces of northern-inspired art, including the interior design of the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel, the four-star hotel attached to the terminal. REWARDS FOR OUR FRIENDS EIA offers a special rewards program for our friends in the North. Members of our complimentary loyalty program, EIA rewards, who live in northern communities receive four complimentary Plaza Premium Lounge passes ($160 value) and a special rate at the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel to make connections at EIA an even better experience. All members received monthly discounts on shopping, parking, dining and terminal services and the chance to win monthly flight prizes. SHOPPING AND ENTERTAINMENT MADE EASIER With the development of the new 500,000 sq. ft. Premium Outlet Collection EIA (opening Fall 2017) and on-site Costco, shopping and shipping from Edmonton to northern communities will be easier than ever. We are in the midst of discussions with Braden Burry Expediting, Rosenau Transport, Canadian North and others to ship food and goods directly from these new developments to Yellowknife and other communities. The new Rogers Place and Ice District are forming Canada’s largest mixed-use sports and entertainment district. Catch an Edmonton Oilers game or concert, and find even more reasons to visit and enjoy Edmonton. 1 EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FLYEIA.COM Northern Partnerships with Edmonton International Airport AIR SERVICE EIA is proud to partner with multiple partners to provide people living in Canada’s northern communities the best transportation options available, both in terms of passenger and cargo service. • Northern Connections
NORTHERN CONNECTIONS A Multi-Modal Transportation Blueprint for the North FEBRUARY 2008 Government of Yukon Photos and maps courtesy of: ALCAN RaiLink Inc. Government of British Columbia Government of Northwest Territories Government of Nunavut Government of Yukon Designed and printed in Canada’s North Copyright February 2008 ISBN: 1-55362-342-8 MESSAGE FROM MINISTERS It is our pleasure to present Northern Connections: A Multi-Modal Transportation Blueprint for the North, a pan-territorial perspective on the transportation needs of Northern Canada. This paper discusses a vision for the development of northern transportation infrastructure in the context of a current massive infrastructure decit. Research has proven that modern transportation infrastructure brings immense benets. The northern transportation system of the future must support economic development, connect northern communities to each other and to the south, and provide for enhanced sovereignty and security in Canada’s north. This document complements a comprehensive national transportation strategy – Looking to the Future: A Plan for Investing in Canada’s Transportation System – released under the auspices of the Council of the Federation in December 2005. The three territories support the details contained in Looking to the Future that call for a secure, long-term funding framework for transportation infrastructure that will benet all Canadians. Equally important, northern territories stress that this national strategy – and any subsequent funding mechanisms that follow – must account for unique northern needs and priorities, which would be largely overlooked using nation-wide criteria only. This paper is also consistent with A Northern Vision: A Stronger North and a Better Canada, the May 2007 release of a pan-territorial vision for the north.
