Bułgaria, Serbia) po- wstały już w średniowieczu. Nie zdołały one jednak utrzymać niezależności, gdyż zarówno zewnętrzne, jak i wewnętrzne czynniki destabilizujące dopro- wadziły do znaczącego ich osłabienia, co w XV w. z powodzeniem wykorzy- stała Turcja Osmańska. Podboju uniknęła tylko część terenów współczesnej Chorwacji i Słowenii, które weszły w skład imperium habsburskiego. Pano- wanie tureckie w krajach południowosłowiańskich przyczyniło się do rozpo- wszechnienia islamu wśród Słowian. Islamizacja nie była jednak traktowana priorytetowo, a najważniejszym założeniem politycznym Turcji było czerpa- nie zysków z podbitych ziem, niezbędnych do utrzymania państwa osmań- skiego. Na islam przechodzili przeważnie chłopi, ale też przedstawiciele sta- nów wyższych, chcący zachować swoje dotychczasowe przywileje. Wielu ludzi zmieniało konfesję ze względów ambicjonalnych, gdyż umożliwiało to dojście do najwyższych godności państwowych. Upadek państwa osmańskie- go i rozpad Austro-Węgier po I wojnie światowej nie tylko przyczyniły się do powstania nowych państw południowosłowiańskich, lecz także spowodowały

    Empire, Nation, and the Islamic World: Bosnian Muslim Reformists between the Habsburg and Ottoman Empires, 1901-1914 Harun Buljina Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2019 © 2019 Harun Buljina All rights reserved ABSTRACT Empire, Nation, and the Islamic World: Bosnian Muslim Reformists between the Habsburg and Ottoman Empires, 1901-1914 Harun Buljina This dissertation is a study of the early 20th-century Pan-Islamist reform movement in Bosnia-Herzegovina, tracing its origins and trans-imperial development with a focus on the years 1901-1914. Its central figure is the theologian and print entrepreneur Mehmed Džemaludin Čaušević (1870-1938), who returned to his Austro-Hungarian-occupied home province from extended studies in the Ottoman lands at the start of this period with an ambitious agenda of communal reform. Čaušević’s project centered on tying his native land and its Muslim inhabitants to the wider “Islamic World”—a novel geo-cultural construct he portrayed as a viable model for communal modernization. Over the subsequent decade, he and his followers founded a printing press, standardized the writing of Bosnian in a modified Arabic script, organized the country’s Ulema, and linked these initiatives together in a string of successful Arabic-script, Ulema-led, and theologically modernist print publications. By 1914, Čaušević’s supporters even brought him to a position of institutional power as Bosnia-Herzegovina’s Reis-ul-Ulema (A: raʾīs al-ʿulamāʾ), the country’s highest Islamic religious authority and a figure of regional influence between two empires.

    Contatti di lingue - Contatti di scritture a cura di Daniele Baglioni, Olga Tribulato Caratteri arabi per la lingua bosniaca Esempi di scrittura fra influssi ottomani e riappropriazioni locali Giustina Selvelli (Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, Italia) Abstract The history of arebica, a writing system consisting in modified Arabic characters used for writing the Bosnian language, represents a valuable case of contact among different writing systems and languages which took place in the territories of Bosnia and Herzegovina after the beginning of the Ottoman domination. An emphasis on its role is achievable considering the development of aljamiado literature and the preservation of Bosnian language itself, through the analysis of some examples taken from the versified Bosnian-Turkish dictionary Makbûl- i Ârif written by Uskufi in 1631, as well as some verses written by the poet Abdulvehab Ilhamija at the be- ginning of the 19th century. A considerable importance must be given also to Mehmed Džemaludin Čaušević's orthographic reform of the writing system during the Habsburg occupation of Bosnia.     Sabina Dizdarevič: ALJAMIADO AND ORIENTAL1 LITERATURE IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA (1463-1878) »Jedna od važnijih značajki nacionalnog bića jednog naroda jest njegov jezik.« »One of the most important characteristics of nation's nationality is its language.« Muhamed Huković Aljamiado literature is a regional and national phenomena. The texts are manuscripts which utilize the Arabic or Hebrew alphabets for transcribing the vernacular language of the nation where it appeared. And it appeared among peoples who lived under Arabian or Turkish reign for long periods of time. Under that influence it was spread in Europe from the Iberian peninsula to Haemos2. It also appears among Chinese muslims and muslims in former Dutch colonies, but it is more frequent in Europe as in Albanian, Spanish, Bosnian and Bolgarian literature. Aljamiado is a literar phenomena with special aestetic, ethic and ideal characteristics. Adjusted Arabic alphabet for transcribing Slavic texts is called arebica or arabica, in which most works were written in the 17th, 18th and 19th century. It is important to mention that aljamiado literature and it's evolution in Bosnia and Herzegovina didn't end in 1878 with the ocupation by the Austro-Hungarian empire. It became more intensive after reformation of the alphabet by Mehmed Đemaludin Čaušević and the expansion of printing. Arebica dissapeared from usage when lingustic, cultural, sociologic, political and religious circumstances, which caused its appearance, dissapeared. Codex is a set of manuscripts containing texts in german, hungarian and latin written in arebica. In that certain codex the first bosnian arebic poem Hirvat türkisi by Mehmed Erdeljac3 was brought out.

He was also a sheikh of Naqshbandiyya order and a founder of famous Tekiya in Oglavak near Fojnica . He studied Islamic theology and mysticism in Fojnica, Sarajevo and then in Istanbul and Central Asia . As a Sufi sheikh he was one of most reputable mystics of his times, a teacher and friend of another outstanding writer of 19th century, Abdulve- hab Ilhamija . Sirrija knew some Oriental languages well: Arabic, Persian and Turkish . The best evidence of this fact is his library including important religious Muslim works . Sirri-baba left only a small Divan so called ilahiye („God poem”) both in Bosnian and Turkish . Bosnian poems written in Arabic script (alja- miado) include only three pieces of didactic character, and the most fa- mous of them is so called Ilahiye elif, which I present in my paper on the basis of an unused manuscript from Gazi Husrev-begova Library at Sarajevo . The edition of the ilahiye takes into account its transcription based on Šakir Sikirić’s version from 1941 and a comparison with Frie- drich Krauss’ and Abdurahman Nametak’s transcriptions as well as its translation into Polish . Pored poezije na bosanskom jeziku, sa svojim djelima na turskom i arapskom, stekao je status jednog najvažnijih inteletualaca njegova vremena. Ilhamija, također poznat i kroz svoj identitet sufije, u narodu je bio prihvaćen kao jedan od znamenitih mutasavvifa. Period u kojem je Ilhamija živio jeste period u kojem su se Osmanska država i Bosna susretale s mno- gobrojnim problemima na političkom, ekonomskom i vojnom planu. Ilhamija je o manjkavostima svoga vremena oštro govorio u svojim pjesmama, što je uznemiravalo vladajuće krugove. Pored njegove poezije i identiteta sufije, u kulturnom pamćenju naroda je urezana i činjenica da ga je dao pogubiti bosan- ski namjesnik tog perioda, Dželal-paša. Nerasvijetljene činjenice o razlozima pogubljenja Bošnjaci su nadomjestili predajama, tako da se pojavilo mnoštvo legendi vezanih za njegovo pogubljenje. Čak je kao razlog njegova pogubljenja navođena njegova poznata satira koju je spjevao za Dželal-pašu. Pismo koje je bosanski namjesnik Dželal-paša 1821. Poslao u Istanbul, a u kojem govori o razlozima pogubljenja Ilhamije, te pogubljenja i zatvaranja nekolicine ugled- nika - njegovih pristalica i istomišljenika, važan je dokument koji rasvjetljava do sada nerasvijetljene razloge Ilhamijina pogubljenja. An emphasis on its role is achievable considering the development of aljamiado literature and the preservation of Bosnian language itself, through the analysis of some examples taken from the versified Bosnian-Turkish dictionary Makbûl- i Ârif written by Uskufi in 1631, as well as some verses written by the poet Abdulvehab Ilhamija at the be- ginning of the 19th century. A considerable importance must be given also to Mehmed Džemaludin Čaušević's orthographic reform of the writing system during the Habsburg occupation of Bosnia. Dla piśmiennictwa niearabskiego zapisywanego alfabetem arabskim funkcjonuje w nauce określenie aljamiado wywodzące się od arabskie- go słowa al-‘ağamiyya, ‘obca’ (od: al-luġa al-‘ağamiyya, ‘język obcy’). Początko- wo było stosowane tylko do języków i dialektów romańskich na Półwyspie Pire- nejskim (kastylijski, aragoński, kataloński, galicyjski, portugalski, także ladino), z czasem jednak rozszerzono jego używanie także w stosunku do innych języków, głównie na Bałkanach (serbski, chorwacki, bośniacki, albański). W piśmie tym znane są także teksty w języku staro-cerkiewno-słowiańskim. Można obecnie do- strzec wśród badaczy tendencję do poszerzania znaczenia aljamiado do wszyst- kich języków poza arabskim, które używają pisma opartego na arabskim [Lévi Provençal 2001; Hegyi 1979: 262; Casassas Canals 2010: 2]. Południowosłowiańskie piśmiennictwo alhamijado (także: aljamijado oraz adžamijska književnost) zapisywane było alfabetem nazywanym arebica (także: arabica). O rozwoju tego piśmiennictwa, będącego poważnym zjawiskiem kul- turowo-literackim, można mówić właściwie od pierwszej połowy XVII w., ale za pierwsze zachowane teksty napisane w arebicy uważa się dwa krótkie rękopisy, stanowiące rodzaj materiałów do nauki języków, datowane na 1512 r.
