Its occurence in the southern part of Finland was reported soon later by Dr. K. MIKKoLA (1968), suggesting it to be an immigrant insect from the south. Mr. CH, BouRsiN (1969) added some further habitats in Germany and in Poland. In January 1972, at a meeting of lepidopterists in Tokyo, I met a strange H),d)"aecia specimen about which Mr. Y. KoBAyAsHi asked my opinion. It is a male taken by him at Obihiro, Hokkaido, in summer of 1968, and looks just like Hyd}'aecia micacea (EspER) that is still unknown to me from our country. As he was so kind in submitting this interest specimen te rny full exarnination, the genitalia were immediately mounted and the result was surprisingly that the specimen is not micacea but agrees well with the published description and figures of H),draecia ultima HoLsT. Shortly after, upon my request, Mr. H, KoGl who is a lepidopterist long hunting in the district where ultima was secured, distinguished it with his keen eye from his collection of IIydraecia and kindly sent me a male, The genitalia examined show it again to be ultima. Acta Biologica 23/2016 | www.wnus.edu.pl/ab | DOI: 10.18276/ab.2016.23-02 | strony 15–34 The Maria Curie-Skłodowska University Botanical Garden in Lublin as a refuge of the moths (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) within the city Łukasz Dawidowicz,1 Halina Kucharczyk2 Department of Zoology, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Akademicka 19, 20-033 Lublin, Poland 1 e-mail: [email protected] 2 e-mail: [email protected] Keywords biodiversity, urban fauna, faunistics, city, species composition, rare species, conservation Abstract In 2012 and 2013, 418 species of moths at total were recorded in the Botanical Garden of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. The list comprises 116 species of Noctuidae (26.4% of the Polish fauna), 116 species of Geometridae (28.4% of the Polish fauna) and 63 species of other Macrolepidoptera representatives (27.9% of the Polish fauna). The remaining 123 species were represented by Microlepidoptera. Nearly 10% of the species were associated with wetland habitats, what constitutes a surprisingly large proportion in such an urbanised area. Comparing the obtained data with previous studies concerning Polish urban fauna of Lepidoptera, the moths assemblages in the Botanical Garden were the most similar to the one from the Natolin Forest Reserve which protects the legacy of Mazovian forests. Several recorded moths appertain to locally and rarely encountered species, as Stegania cararia, Melanthia procellata, Pasiphila chloerata, Eupithecia haworthiata, Horisme corticata, Xylomoia graminea, Polychrysia moneta. In the light of the conducted studies, the Botanical Garden in Lublin stands out as quite high biodiversity and can be regarded as a refuge for moths within the urban limits of Lublin.

  • Entomologiske Meddelelser
Efter at have praktiseret denne nummerering i nogle år, droppedes dog betegnelsen "2.

IInteresting records of Macrolepidoptera in Sweden during 1991.] Ent. Tidskr. 113 (4):37-a5. Upp- sala. Sweden 1992. ISSN 0013-886x. - A list is presented of rare or otherwise interesting Macrolepidoptera found in Sweden in 1991. What has previously been known under the name of Noctua janthina (D & S, 1775) has in northern Europe shown to be a complex of two species; N. janthina (D & S, 1775) and N. janthe (Borkhausen, 1792). Both species belong to the Swedish fauna. At present 1057 species are known from Sweden. A very obvious long-range migration of Pelosia muscerda (Hufnagel, 1766), Eilema griseola (Htibner, 1803), Autographa mandarina (Frey- er, 1846) and probably Hydraecia ultima Holst,1965 related to eastern air-currents, in the end of July and in the beginning of August, is described. Other interesting migrant species recorded are Orthonama obstipata (F, 1794), Agrius convolvuli (L, 1758), Acherontia atro- pos (L, 1758), Macroglossum stellatarum (L, 1758), Nycteola asiorica (Krulikowsky, 1904), Hoplodrina ambigua (D & S, 1775) and Mythimna 1- album (L, 1767). Notes on the species listed above and several others are presented. The classification follows Catalogus Lepidop- terorum Sueciae (1987). New provincial records are listed separately. Noctuoidea. The study yielded 273 species, i.e. 55 % of the Polish Noctuoidea. Its results clearly indicate that the study area is of crucial importance to the conservation of noctuid biodiversity, not only in Poland, but also in Europe. This area is inhabited by a number of stenotopic species, considered to be rare and threatened with extinction in Poland as well as in central Europe as a whole, e.g.: Idia calvaria, Meganola togatulalis, Diachrysia zosimi, Syngrapha microgamma, Abrostola asclepiadis, Acronicta menyanthidis, Heliothis ononis, Hoplodrina respersa, Lithophane lamda, Xylomoia graminea, Hydraecia ultima, Diarsia florida, Lycophotia molothina, Paradiarsia punicea, Xestia castanea, Coenophila subrosea and Euxoa vitta. Key words: Noctuids, SE Poland, Sandomierz Basin, diversity, hygrophilous and psammophilous species, distribution INTRODUCTION Moths are the group of insects which, in the history of entomological research, has been collected and studied the most often.

Nowacki, R. Wa˛sala & P. Zydlik Abstract The paper presents the results of a survey, carried out in 2009-2017, of the Noctuoidea fauna of xerothermic ecosystems on the slopes of the Chorna Hora mountain in Ukrainian Transcarpathia. Among the total of 299 noctuid species recorded, 96 are new to the Chorna Hora. The survey has shown unequivocally that this region plays a major role in the preservation of noctuid biodiversity in both Ukraine and Europe as a whole. It supports a series of stenotopic species with Pontic, Mediterranean and Pannonian distributions, regarded as rare and threatened with extinction in Ukraine and central Europe. They include C. communimacula, N.

Denmark. Abstract The new species Mesapamea secalella Remm, described by H. Remm in 1983 from the USSR : Estonian SSR, is also distributed in Western Europe. The moth's provisional distribution is stated, the external appearance as well as the genitalia of Mesapamea secalis (L.) and Mesapamea secalella Remm are described, and the nomenclature of M. secalella is discussed. Mesapamea secalis, described by Linné in 1758, is a very variable species with many described aberrations and forms, see for instance Turner (1926-1935) and Heinicke (1960). Entomologists have often considered whether M. secalis L. contained more than one species. Genital investigations on secalis have so far concluded, that in Europe there was only one species = Mesapamea secalis L. Investigations on the male genital organs of a number of "secalis L." from the Estonian SSR of the USSR has however proved that there is a second species : Mesapamea secalella Remm, 1983, hidden among M.
