Whilst North East Derbyshire District council and the Clay Cross Area Community Regeneration project believe that the sources of information upon which it is based are reliable and that the information has been compiled with reasonable care, they do not accept any responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of the information contained in this directory. Foreword he Community Resources Theme group is one of the four groups that form an integral part in the Clay TCross Area Community Regeneration Project. They commissioned the publishing of the Clay Cross Community Groups Directory to provide information to local residents and groups they can join in the area. There are about 90 groups listed in this first edition of the directory and it is being distributed free of charge to all local homes (roughly 4,000 copies). The rewards are mutually beneficial. It will give the people of Clay Cross an idea of what groups there are locally, and the groups gain a welcome means of recruiting new members, the mainstay of their existence. We hope you find this publication useful. It is intended to produce another copy next year.     Public Agenda Item No. 2.1 DERBYSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL REGULATORY – PLANNING COMMITTEE 17 March 2017 Report of the Strategic Director – Economy, Transport and Communities 1 PROPOSED SURFACE COAL MINING SCHEME WITH RESTORATION TO AGRICULTURE AND NATURE CONSERVATION BENEFITS AT HILLTOP FARM, DERBY ROAD, CLAY CROSS APPLICANT: PROVECTUS REMEDIATION LIMITED CODE NO: CM4/1215/125 4.2482.6 Introductory Summary This is an application for the extraction of coal using surface mining methods on land at Hilltop Farm, Clay Cross. The proposal is to extract 175,000 tonnes of coal from the site. The site would be restored for agricultural use and nature conservation. The entire scheme would take approximately 3½ years. Access to the site would be from the A61 Derby Road. HGV movements associated with the development would be a maximum of 40 (20 in/20 out) per day during periods of coaling. The two public rights of way (PROW) that cross the site would temporarily be affected. The development would involve the removal of some of the sites existing hedgerows and trees. The application is accompanied by an Environmental Statement (ES). A significant issue for this proposal is the proximity of the site to residential properties, the separation distance between the site and some properties is very limited for this type of development. The application site is a wedge of open countryside that helps to separate Clay Cross from Old Tupton and is valued locally. The proposal would result in unacceptable adverse landscape and visual impacts during the operational phase of the development. There would also be unacceptable short term noise impacts during temporary site operations.

  • Ben-Reigns-In-Risley
    We had a wonderful turnout at our first-ever East Midlands Chess Festival at Risley Village Hall, DE72 3SU, on Sunday 16 June 2013. There were players who had travelled from Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Lichfield and Northampton to take part. However the winner of the special trophy for the furthest distance travelled was seven-year-old Amelie Garrett from Lancaster, 2½ hours away! Unfortunately due to heavy traffic it took them four hours to get to Risley. EMC Training Tournaments are a unique blend of competition and quality training, in this case delivered by David Levens, ECF National Manager of Coaches & Junior Selector, and myself. We were impressed by the high level of play in the TT, where many matches could have gone either way. I (CD) was particularly impressed by the game Susie Wang against Neel Badhe, where Susie consistently found strong moves in the late opening / early middlegame to build up a winning position, only to fall for a clever tactical trap that Neel set. We also noted the high level of focus, concentration and application during games, with many top county players competing. Especially the focus of Ben Raine from Sheffield who, despite being lower graded than other challengers, used his application to edge the event. Ben drew with a player graded 83, beat players graded 78 & 101, and all five of his opponents were qualified Gigafinalists. The other junior to stand out was newcomer seven-year-old Mate Ther from Leeds. Apparently Mate only learnt chess in January by teaching himself from a book, and this was his first competition.
