The Derby and Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (DDSCP) learning and development programme aims to encourage staff and volunteers from all agencies to meet and study together in order to promote shared knowledge, skills, values, procedures and practice. The DDSCP is committed to making sure learning and development is accessible for a variety of workers across Derbyshire however it is not always possible to locate venues for all courses in all parts of the county. The DDSCP has a duty to monitor, evaluate and ensure compliance of safeguarding training within all agencies and also offers a multi-agency training programme. The multi-agency training programme is the coordinated by the DDSCP Learning and Organisational Development Group which also validates single agency training. Within Derby and Derbyshire a range of learning and development opportunities are provided including; multi agency training, bespoke training to single agencies, e- learning and workshops. In the future all multi-agency safeguarding training will be available via the DDSCP booking system. Until the system is in place please apply by the following routes: How to apply (These arrangements will be updated following implementation of online booking that is planned for February 2020) For all courses taking place in Derby email [email protected] your request to book a course to You MUST include the following details: Your Name: The name of the course you are applying for: The date of the course: Your contact details including email Agency details Your application will be processed only if all details are completed You will receive a confirmation email of the details of the course and your place Staff should only attend if their place has been confirmed. Staff should only attend if their place has been confirmed. If staff attend without confirmation and the numbers exceed the capacity of the venue they are likely to be asked to book on and attend another future date for that course. Safeguarding training should be “refreshed” every TWO years for those with a designated safeguarding role/responsibility and every THREE for everyone else working with children and young people. You do not have to keep taking the same safeguarding course but should choose other courses to help develop your skills and knowledge in this area. Ofsted and other inspecting/regulatory bodies look favourably on training records that show progression rather than repetition of the basics. Who requires training? Everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play and has a responsibility for keeping them safe. (Working Together 2018) Course levels do not reflect the complexity of the course but the range of workplace responsibility of the participants Role Level 1: Those whose work or volunteering role brings them into contact with children and young people and families/carers Role Level 2: Those who work or volunteer regularly with children, young people and families/carers, and may be asked to contribute to safeguarding processes Role Level 3: Those with particular and specialised responsibility for safeguarding children through core safeguarding processes: assessments, child protection conferences, core groups, plans and responses Role Level 4: Those with responsibility for supervising or guiding staff in safeguarding processes or managing services such as safeguarding leads, designated or named professionals and managers of staff working at role level 1-3 Staff and volunteers with Level 1 and 2 responsibilities will have access to materials on the DDSCP website and should be provided with induction and support from their agencies. All courses are aimed at staff and volunteers who hold Level 2 and Level 3 responsibilities. Everybody’s Business is suitable for staff members who have either Level 2 or Level 3 responsibility at work however it is primarily aimed at staff new to safeguarding. Cancellation and charging policy 4 Demand for the DDSCPs’ courses is high and not all applicants obtain places. It is essential therefore that staff inform the training administrators of any cancellation in advance of the course start date, in order for the place to be offered to another candidate. Please note - All multi agency courses are free to agencies who contribute to the DDSCP. However, profit making organisations including private children’s homes , private nurseries, private schools, free schools and academies will be charged £95.00 per person for a full day course and £45.00 per person for a half day course.
