Cerulo Romance novels have changed significantly since they first entered the public consciousness. Instead of seeking to understand the changes that have occurred in the industry, in readership, in authorship, and in the romance novel product itself, both academic and popular perception has remained firmly in the early 1980s when many of the surface criticisms were still valid."Using Wendy Griswold’s (2004) idea of a cultural diamond, I analyze the multiple and sometimes overlapping relationships within broader trends in the romance industry based on content analysis and interviews with romance readers and authors. Three major issues emerge from this study. First, content of romance novels sampled from the past fourteen years is more reflective of contemporary ideas of love, sex, and relationships. Second, romance has been a leader and innovator in the trend of electronic publishing, with major independent presses adding to the proliferation of subgenres and pushing the boundaries of what is considered romance. Finally, readers have a complicated relationship with the act of reading romance and what the books mean in their lives. -

Joyce Carol Oates 16
JOYCE CAROL OATES 16. 6. 1938 Americká prozai čka, básní řka, dramati čka a kriti čka Joyce Carol Oatesová se narodila 16. června 1938 v dělnické rodin ě v Lockportu, ve stát ě New York. D ětství prožila na rodinné farm ě svých prarodi čů nedaleko Erijského jezera blízko kanadských hranic (kraj Erie získal důležité místo v její románové i povídkové tvorb ě, kde ho nazývá „Eden County“). -

The Case of Harlequin Enterprises and Sweden. This dissertation deals with the Canadian category publisher Harlequin Enterprises. Operating in a hundred markets and publishing in twenty-four languages around the world, Harlequin Enterprises exempliıes the increasingly transnational character of publishing and the media. This book takes the Stockholm-based Scandinavian subsidiary Förlaget Harlequin as a case-study to analyze the complexities involved in the transposition of Harlequin romances from one cultural context into another. Using a combination of theoretical and empirical approaches it is argued that the local process of translation and editing – here referred to as transediting – has a fundamental impact on how the global book becomes local. -

Creative Conflict in Writing Return of the Jedi Ewoks
V. 12 – N. 1 - jan./ abr. 2021 ISSN: 2179-1465 / https://www.revistageminis.ufscar.br Brett Davies Meiji University EWOKS VERSUS DEAD HEROES: CREATIVE CONFLICT IN Tokyo, Japan WRITING RETURN OF THE JEDI EWOKS CONTRA HERÓIS MORTOS: CONFLITO CRIATIVO NA ESCRITA DE RETURN OF THE JEDI ABSTRACT The original Star Wars trilogy established a storytelling model that still influences Hollywood filmmaking today. However, the third episode in the saga, Return of the Jedi (1983), was received less favorably than its predecessors by critics. This article will examine historical record and analyze aspects of syuzhet (‘plot’) and fabula (‘story’) (BORDWELL, 1985, pp. 49-50) in the screenplay in order to establish why Return of the Jedi works less successfully as a narrative than the first two films. The results of the investigation suggest that this was due to a fundamental philosophical conflict between screenwriters George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan. Keywors: Star Wars, George Lucas, Lawrence Kasdan, syuzhet, fabula. -
Darling Companion” in Sony Pictures Classics
WERC WERK WORKS FINDS A “DARLING COMPANION” IN SONY PICTURES CLASSICS New York, NY (July 27, 2011) – Sony Pictures Classics has preemptively acquired all domestic rights to Lawrence Kasdan’s DARLING COMPANION from production company Werc Werk Works, it was announced today by Sony Pictures Classics and Werc Werk Works CEO Elizabeth Redleaf. DARLING COMPANION is written by Meg Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Lawrence Kasdan. It stars Kevin Kline, Diane Keaton, Dianne Wiest, Richard Jenkins, Elisabeth Moss, Mark Duplass, Ayelet Zurer and Sam Shepherd. The film is produced by Anthony Bregman for Likely Story, Lawrence Kasdan for Kasdan Pictures and Elizabeth Redleaf for Werc Werk Works. Christine Walker, Meg Kasdan and John Kelly served as executive producers. In DARLING COMPANION, Beth (Keaton) saves a bedraggled lost dog from the side of the freeway on a wintry day in Denver. When Joseph loses the dog after a wedding at their vacation home in the Rockies, the distraught Beth enlists the help of the few remaining guests and a mysterious young woman (Zurer) in a frantic search. Each member of the search party is affected by the adventure, which takes them in unexpected directions – comic, harrowing, and sometimes deeply emotional. Sony Pictures Classics plans a 2012 release for DARLING COMPANION. The deal was negotiated by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) on behalf of Werc Werk Works with Sony Pictures Classics. CAA, which represents Kasdan and Kline, also arranged financing for the film.
