HIGHLIGHTING THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF STUDENT-ATHLETES The Blue Ribbon WINTER 2016 January 2016 Dear DePaul Community, As the university settles into the new year, Athletic Academic Advising and the Department of Athletics are proud to share our Blue Ribbon Newsletter. This annual publication highlights the academic achievements of DePaul student-athletes during the 2014-2015 academic year. Numerous student-athletes received academic accolades last year, which are detailed in the newsletter. We are especially pleased that 163 student-athletes were named to the 2014-2015 BIG EAST All- Academic Team by earning a 3.0 or higher GPA for the year. The program as a whole recorded a 3.458 GPA. Eight teams earned the highest GPA in the BIG EAST Conference for their respective sport— women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s indoor track and field, women’s outdoor track and field, golf, women’s soccer, softball and women’s tennis—the most in the conference. Additionally, both our women’s basketball and softball teams earned the third highest GPA in the nation for their respective sport. 2015-2016 is off to a great start as well. 163 student-athletes were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.0 or higher term GPA) and 118 to the DePaul University Dean’s List (3.5 or higher term GPA) after Fall Quarter. Also, Elise Wyatt from women’s soccer was named to the CoSIDA 2015 Academic All-America Women’s Soccer First Team—the only student-athlete from the conference to be recognized on the first team. In addition, Simon Megally from men’s soccer was named to the NSCAA Scholar All- Region Second Team. We are very proud of these accomplishments and we know that many of you have played an important role in the academic success our student-athletes enjoy. We wish to thank you for your support. Student-athletes work hard to balance the rigors of academics and the demands of their sport. The assistance and support they receive from faculty and staff on campus are greatly appreciated. To celebrate these accomplishments, we ask that you join us in honoring our BIG EAST All-Academic Team at our annual half-time ceremony during the DePaul versus Providence College men’s basketball game on February 2. Our departments work hard every day to make DePaul Athletics something of which the university community can be proud. Please continue to support our student-athletes’ efforts both in the classroom and in competition. We hope you can join us at an athletic event in the near future—the student-athletes would love to see you at one of their competitions. DePaul will host the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament in McGrath-Phillips Arena March 5-8. Please visitdepaulbluedemons.com for more information. If we can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us.
