DePaul Athletic Department COVID-19 Guidelines FAQ For the most up-to-date information, visit DePaul’s Return to Campus website at go.depaul.edu/fall2020 1. What steps are being taken by DePaul University and DePaul Athletics to prevent the spread of COVID-19? DePaul University and the DePaul Athletic Department continue to focus on facility sanitation efforts, enforcing personal hygiene and social distancing best practices and monitoring potential COVID-19 cases across campus in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Over the past few months, the University has heavily invested in COVID-19 supplies, response equipment and sanitizing tools. These efforts include: - Reducing building hours for additional cleaning and sanitizing - Cleaning high-touch surfaces and facilities, such as elevator buttons, classrooms, restrooms, computer labs and handrails, as often as feasible - Upgrading the technology equipment in 110 classrooms to facilitate on-site and online learning - Sanitizing classrooms between classes - Installing plexiglass shields and up to 700 hand sanitizer stations across campus - Purchasing hospital-grade disinfectants to use if there is a confirmed COVID-19 case on campus - Detailed sanitization efforts can be found HERE In addition, the DePaul community will be expected to maintain physical distancing and to keep their nose and mouth covered at all times on campus. Faculty, staff, students and other campus visitors will also be required to complete a daily self-assessment via #CampusClear before arriving to campus. Specifically, in DePaul Athletics, all staff, coaches, student-athletes and student workers will undergo daily temperature checks in addition to completing a daily self-assessment via #CampusClear to monitor symptoms. Student-athletes, student workers, coaches and athletics staff will be required to show their #CampusClear approval before entering the Sullivan Athletic Center. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced in athletic center common areas, department offices, training facilities and sports medicine areas. 2. What new policies or protocols have been put into place specifically in the Athletic Department? How will I learn about them? In addition to overall campus sanitization procedures and personal hygiene expectations, the Athletic Department will reduce face-to-face interaction as much as possible and enforce social distance requirements as much as possible. The new protocols and best practices in each respective area of the Athletic Department are detailed in the DePaul Athletic Department COVID-19 Guidelines. Most notable changes include: 1) initially limiting team activity to smaller groups or “pods,” 2) the elimination of hosting team meals in the 2nd floor conference room, Athletics Annex or other common areas 3) a focus on virtual tutoring and other services in Athletic Academic Advising (AAA), 4) a redesigned Fueling Station serving only individually packaged food, 5) a more scheduled approach to accessing sport medicine care via Setmore and 6) additional restrictions to training and weight room usage to accommodate official team activity and comply with social distancing guidelines. These changes will require increased communication and coordination between student-athletes and coaches/staff but have been implemented to ensure the health and safety of our Blue Demon family to the best of our ability. DePaul Athletic Department COVID-19 Guidelines FAQ | Revised: Oct. 5, 2020 Along with the DePaul Athletic Department COVID-19 Guidelines, all student-athletes and parents are invited to a virtual Student-Athlete Orientation with coaches and athletic department administration to review expectations and plans for the 2020-21 academic and athletic year. All incoming student-athletes and their parents will also attend scheduled “Welcome Sessions” via ZOOM in place of the usual on-campus sessions. 3. Will hand sanitizer be readily available on campus? The University has planned for up to 700 hand sanitizer stations to be installed throughout office suites, cafeterias, libraries, recreation facilities, in every computer laboratory and in the common areas of each building. Each sanitation station will be fitted with a one-gallon bottle of World Health Organization-formula liquid hand sanitizer. Additional campus sanitization efforts are detailed HERE 4. I am a student-athlete returning to campus from a “hot spot” state with a mandatory quarantine required by the City of Chicago. What are my quarantine options? Can DePaul Athletics provide a hotel for me to stay in? If yes, can my parents stay with me in the provided hotel room? If your home residence is a state included on the Chicago Travel Quarantine List (HERE), you must self- quarantine in Illinois (or another non-hot spot state) for two weeks. Options for completing the self- quarantine before the start of team activity include: 1) A preferred private residence (i.e. family member, friend or other relative’s home) in Illinois or in a state not included in the travel restriction. 2) In a designated University Residence Hall. Self-quarantine in a University Residence Hall can be arranged at no additional cost to you. Students will have the option to quarantine on campus for the entire 14-day requirement mandated by the city or just 7 days if the first 7 days of quarantine were completed at home. If you quarantine on campus, DePaul Housing staff will deliver meals and urgent mail to your room, provide access to Wi-Fi and Philo TV streaming, etc. Students must stay in their rooms and not interact in person with other students for any reason during the quarantine period. Exceptions will be made for a medical appointment or COVID test. 3) Hotel accommodations arranged by DePaul Athletics at no additional cost to the student-athlete may be available on a limited basis (pending availability and hotel guidelines). Student-athletes should contact their head coach for details. If approved, and space is available, it is permissible for family members from the same household to complete the quarantine with the student-athlete and stay in the same hotel room if they abide by the same strict quarantine guidelines as the student-athlete. Individuals found in violation of Chicago’s Emergency Travel Order are subject to city fines of $100 - $500 per day, up to $7,000. 5. Will student-athletes be supplied with face coverings when they arrive on campus? Upon arrival to campus, student-athletes will be provided three (3) high quality, breathable, washable face masks for practice and competition. Student-Athletes will be responsible for bringing and wearing their face masks every day for practice or competition in all DePaul practice and competition venues. 6. Do student-athletes need to wear face coverings during training, practice, or team competition? Per NCAA and the BIG EAST Conference Universal Masking guidelines, all student-athletes must wear a face covering during ALL athletic activities (training or workout sessions, team practice, official competition, etc.). In addition, face coverings must be worn at all times inside the Sullivan Athletic Center. Will student-athletes undergo COVID-19 testing upon return to campus? If so, will there be additional testing after their initial test? On return to campus, ALL student-athletes will undergo a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test for COVID-19 before taking part in team activities. Following the test, each student-athlete must quarantine alone in their assigned room or off campus residence until a negative test result is confirmed (generally 24-48 hours). Additional testing will occur on a case-by-case basis if a student-athlete develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or if they are exposed to someone with the virus. Additional testing directives may be outlined by the NCAA during the transition period, preseason period, and regular competition season for each respective sport. 8. What protocol is in place if a student-athlete tests positive for COVID-19? If a student-athlete tests positive for COVID-19 either upon returning to campus or at any time after participating in team activity, they will be contacted by a member of the DePaul Athletics sports medicine team and immediately be placed in isolation. Following the isolation period and resolution of symptoms they will be released by the team physicians and cleared for athletic activity. Student-Athletes deemed a “primary contact” to a positive individual and potentially exposed to the virus will also be contacted by a member of the DePaul Athletics sports medicine staff and be required to quarantine for a period of fourteen (14) days and subsequently tested. If symptom free and test results are negative, the student-athlete will be allowed to return to athletic activity. If positive, required isolation protocol will be followed. If a student-athlete is exposed to a positive case and must quarantine, can they complete their quarantine period at home or do they have to remain on campus? Can they quarantine in their own apartment if they do not live in the residence hall? If a student-athlete is exposed to a positive case and lives off campus, then they are free to quarantine in their own apartment or family home. Official quarantine procedures and guidelines for DePaul Residence Halls will be announced by the Department of Housing when available and will be posted online at HOUSING.DEPAUL.EDU 10. Will DePaul Athletics coaches or staff be tested for COVID-19? All athletics staff (coaches, sports medicine and sport performance) who are face-to-face with student- athletes daily will be tested prior to the return of team activities.
