FACULTY GUIDE TO Student Programs and Services [ 2020-2021 ] DEAR FACULTY MEMBER, This Faculty Guide to Student Programs and Services includes information on university resources, supports and co-curricular programs available to our students. The guide is designed to help new and adjunct faculty become knowledgeable regarding co-curricular programs and services in order to encourage and support student progress and success. The guide also allows us to better partner with you to support students during their collegiate years. The Division of Student Affairs develops and implements many of the programs and services found in the Faculty Guide to Student Programs and Services. We provide support services, such as counseling, advising and disability accommodations, along with other programs that foster student success, build community and contribute to the development of the whole student. We continue to provide almost all of our programs and services, even in the midst of a global pandemic. While all services might not be offered in person, on-campus this year, you and your students have a number of options for safely engaging with Student Affairs. Please note that in this ever-changing context, our programs, services and availability are subject to change with little to no notice. Visit our website to get regularly updated information. Members of my division are available to assist in helping you identify appropriate programs and resources for your students. Please take advantage of our expertise and reach out to us if you have questions or need additional information regarding co-curricular learning and student support services. Sincerely, Eugene L. Zdziarski, II, PhD Vice President for Student Affairs 3 TABLE OF Contents ABOUT DEPAUL UNIVERSITY FEST | 10 President | 6 Midnight Breakfast | 10 Mission | 6 New Student Service Day | 10 Colleges and Schools | 7 Premiere DePaul | 10 Residence Halls | 11 CAMPUS LANDMARKS Transition DePaul | 11 Brownstones | 8 Vincentian Service Day | 11 Cacciatore Stadium | 8 Welcome Week | 11 The Chapel | 8 Cortelyou Commons | 8 QUESTIONS FACULTY The Egan Statue | 8 MAY ASK The Holtschneider About Student Behavior | 12 Performance Center | 8 About University Counseling Lincoln Park Campus | 8 Services (UCS) | 15 Loop | 8 About the Center for Students LPSC or STU | 8 with Disabilities | 17 The Merle Reskin | 8 Multipurpose Room | 8 QUESTIONS STUDENTS The Pit | 9 MAY ASK About Academics and Studying | 18 The Quad | 9 About Student Organizations | 19 The Ray | 9 About Student Life | 20 Schmitt Academic Center | 9 St. Vincent’s Circle | 9 ACADEMIC AND SUPPORT Sullivan Athletic Center | 9 SERVICES FOR STUDENTS The Theatre School | 9 Academic Advising | 22 Whole Foods Market | 9 Bluestar | 22 Wintrust Arena | 9 Campus Connect | 22 Wish Field | 9 College of Science and Health Tutoring Services | 22 DEPAUL TRADITIONS DeHub | 22 Alumni and Family Weekend | 10 DePaul Central | 23 Blue Demon Week | 10 D2L | 23 Blue Demon Welcome | 10 DPR | 23 Chicago Quarter/Discover Chicago/ Libraries | 23 Explore Chicago | 10 Learning Commons | 24 DemonTHON | 10 4 Office for Academic Advising Support 24| Survivor Support Advocates S.T.A.R.S. | 24 Substance Misuse Prevention Student Government Association | 24 Multicultural Student Success | 35 Student Legal Resources | 24 New Student and Family Engagement | 36 Student Support Services TRiO | 25 Residential Education | 36 Tutoring | 25 Student Involvement | 36 Tutoring and Language Learning Center University Counseling Services | 37 (Department of Modern Languages) | 25 Vice President for Student Affairs |37 University Center for Writing-based Learning | 26 STUDENT SERVICES Ventra U-Pass | 26 Provided by other university departments or divisions POLICIES AND Alumni Sharing Knowledge | 38 EXPECTATIONS Career Center | 39 Academic Integrity | 27 Catholic Campus Ministry | 39 Alcohol | 27 DePaul Central | 40 Code of Student Responsibility | 27 Financial Aid | 40 FERPA/Student Privacy at DePaul | 28 Financial Fitness Program | 40 Hazing | 28 Global Engagement | 40 Illegal Use or Possession of Housing and Student Centers | 41 Controlled Substances | 28 Ray Meyer Fitness and Sexual and Relationship Violence | 28 Recreation Center | 42 Student Handbook | 29 Religious Diversity and Pastoral Care | 42 STUDENT SERVICES Student Accounts | 42 Provided by Student Affairs Student Records | 42 Adult, Veteran and Commuter Vincentian Service Student Affairs |30 and Formation Team | 43 Athletic Academic Advising | 31 Wintrust Bank | 43 Center for Students with Women’s Center | 44 Disabilities | 31 Dean of Students | 32 CAMPUS SECURITY Health Promotion and Wellness | 33 AND TRANSPORTATION DePaul Student Health Services Public Safety Office 45| Sexual and Relationship Parking Services | 45 Violence Prevention Public Transportation | 46 5 ABOUTALL ABOUT DePaul DePaul University PRESIDENT A. Gabriel Esteban, Ph.D. MISSION The mission statement embodies the principal purposes of DePaul University. As such it is the nexus between past, present and future; the criterion against which plans are formulated and major decisions made; the bond which unites faculty, students, staff, alumni, and trustees as an academic community. As a university, DePaul pursues the preservation, enrichment, and transmission of knowledge and culture across a broad scope of academic disciplines. It treasures its deep roots in the wisdom nourished in Catholic universities from medieval times. The principal distinguishing marks of the university are its Catholic, Vincentian and urban character.
