Dan Stachyra, Violin Dan Stachyra enjoys a varied career in opera, orchestra, and chamber music performance, as well as teaching and recording. He has been a violinist with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and Michigan Opera Theatre at the Detroit Opera House since 2007. He has also performed with the Toledo, Grand Rapids, Fort Wayne, and Memphis Symphonies. As a chamber musician, Mr. Stachyra has performed locally at Christ Church Cranbrook Salon Concerts, the Black Crystal Café, and Concert4aCause. As a member of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, he performed with the Sturgis String Quartet for five years. Since 2012, Mr. Stachyra has been thrilled to perform yearly at the Detroit Jazz Festival, where he has appeared with Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman, Diane Schuur, and others. He graduated from Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with Gregory Fulkerson, and Oberlin College, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. He also trained at the National Repertory Orchestra and the Round Top Festival. As a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the New World Symphony, he worked with internationally renowned musicians. Janine Bradbury, Viola Janine Bradbury resides in Commerce, Michigan. She is a member of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Principal Viola in the Flint Symphony Orchestra. She is a former member of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra, has performed with the Windsor, Toledo, and Detroit Symphonies, and has appeared in chamber music concerts throughout the state. Ms. Bradbury played professional Broadway theater for 15 years in Detroit, and has toured with the national production of Phantom of the Opera. She holds degrees from the Juilliard School (MM Viola) and Michigan State University (BmusEd and Violin Performance). A passionate teacher, Ms. Bradbury maintains a private studio where she teaches violin and viola. Sarah Cleveland, Cello Sarah Cleveland has been principal cellist of the Ann Arbor Symphony since 1994. She began her musical career as a member of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra while studying cello at the University of Michigan. Ms. Cleveland continued with Toledo for 20 years, including 13 years as principal of their cello section. Ms. Cleveland has served as principal of the Flint Symphony, is a member of the Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra, and frequently joins the cello section of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Cleveland is the founder and artistic director of SCStrings, an ensemble of fellow string players who provide groups of two to 15 players for concerts and events. Gregg Powell, Bass Gregg Emerson Powell has been the Principal Bassist of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra since 1974. He holds the same position with the Flint and Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestras, and performs as a freelance musician all over Michigan. He came to the double bass relatively late in life, at the ripe old age of 22 (having just finished a degree in Economics, with a minor in Psychology, at the University of Michigan). Fortunately for him, one of the greatest bass teachers on the planet, Lawrence Hurst, just happened to be teaching at U-M at the time. Other teachers include Robert Gladstone (late principal bassist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra) and the legendary Stuart Sankey. Mr. Powell feels truly blessed to be able to play on a bass that was made by Giovanni Gagliano, in Naples, Italy, in 1804. He serves as Artistic Programs Coordinator for the Flint Symphony Orchestra, as well as the personnel manager for a number of orchestras in the state. He lives in Ann Arbor with his choral conductor/educator/soprano wife, Shayla, and three fine cats. Kathryn Goodson, Piano Pianist Kathryn Goodson, an international performer, teacher and coach, has performed collaborative recitals with vocalists and instrumentalists throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. In her Ann Arbor, Michigan community, she is a coach for the University of Michigan School of Music and a regular ensemble performer for both the Ann Arbor and Detroit Symphony Orchestras. Her teaching projects include an annual course in American Art Song at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe and a master class offered to American schools, Songs4Winds. Her collaborative playing has been documented on CDs released by Innova, Albany and Equilibrium. Belle Nuit, a 2-CD set of romantic French music curated and produced by Goodson, was released by Parma-Navona Records with NAXOS distribution in 2014. Performance partners are bass trombonist Randall Hawes, saxophonists Timothy McAllister and Donald Sinta, and hornist Gail Williams. PERFORMERS, Con’t Glenn Perry, Tenor Glenn studied voice at the University of Michigan with soprano Martha Sheil. After meeting his wife at U-M, they started a family in Ann Arbor, and singing faded into the background for a while. Several years ago, Glenn started singing again. Over the years, Glenn has appeared locally in a variety of operas, operettas, and oratorios with many different organizations. After a performance with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, the Ann Arbor News commented that Glenn's singing helped "truly make the piece - if you'll pardon the expression - a near-religious experience." Glenn began singing with the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti chapter of Opera on Tap in October, 2013, and took over as co-managing divo in September 2014. Glenn hopes to help OOT continue to thrive, and to keep bringing opera to those who might never hear it otherwise! Russell Kerns, Saxophone Russell Kerns is a graduate student at University of Michigan, pursuing a Master’s degree in Saxophone Performance. A current student of the PRISM Saxophone Quartet member Timothy McAllister, Russell has also studied with Frederick L. Hemke and Shawn Tracy. Russell has recently had success at several competitions, gaining honorable mention at the MTNA Illinois solo competition, as well as being one of 25 semifinalists selected for the North American Saxophone Alliance competition and a finalist for the Northwestern University Concerto Competition. He was also selected as a finalist for the 2014 International Saxophone Symposium and Competition, and most recently received 3rd prize for the Vandoren Emerging Artists National Competition. Russell has performed with Northwestern University’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble for several years under the baton of Dr. Mallory Thompson, as well as with the Symphony Band directed by Professor Michael Haithcock. Joshua Marzan, Piano Joshua Marzan, Musician-in-Residence at Northside Community Church since September 2014, is a collaborative pianist now based in Michigan as a doctoral student. Prior to arriving in Ann Arbor, he earned his master’s degree and a graduate diploma at the New England Conservatory, where he began his studies in collaborative piano. He has attended the Music Academy of the West and Songfest as a piano fellow, and served as part of the music staff at the Castleton Festival this past summer. He currently studies with Martin Katz at the University of Michigan and is a precandidate for the Doctor of Music Arts in Collaborative Piano.
