Context Bready Jubilee Primary School is situated in the village of Bready midway between Londonderry and Strabane. The children who attend the school come from the local villages of Bready and Magheramason and the surrounding rural area. There has been an increase in enrolment over the past four years and currently stands at 131. Four of the teaching unions which make up the Northern Ireland Teachers’ Council (NITC) have declared industrial action primarily in relation to a pay dispute. This includes non-co-operation with the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI). Prior to the inspection, the school informed the ETI that none of the teachers would be co-operating with the inspectors. The ETI has a statutory duty to monitor, inspect and report on the quality of education under Article 102 of the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1986. Therefore, the inspection proceeded and the following evaluations are based on the evidence as made available at the time of the inspection. Donemana Primary School Governors’ Report 2013 - 2014 Foreword It gives me great pleasure to present to you the 2013/2014 Board of Gover- nors’ report for Donemana Primary School. You will be able to clearly see from the Calendar of Events and reports just how busy and varied a school year it has been for all of the pupils in our school. As a teacher myself, I have found it very impressive to note the huge opportunities and examples of good practice that are clearly evident in school. In the short time that I have been involved with Donemana Primary School, I have been very impressed with the leadership provided by our Principal, Mrs Hay, and the hard work, motivation, commitment and teamwork shown by all members of staff within school. There is a very positive, warm atmosphere and ethos within Donemana Primary, which would be the envy of many schools. We are indebted and very fortunate to have such a gifted and committed teaching and support staff entrusted with the educational and personal devel- opment of our young people. It is well known that the most successful schools work in partnership with the parents of their children. I would encourage all of you to get as involved as you can be with the work of the school because education does work. As par- ents, we are our child’s first teacher and have a vital role to play. With your support, your child can achieve in education and improve their life chances. I would have no doubt that by working in partnership your child can be the best they can be.

Change clothing discreetly (preferably out of public view). 4. Gain permission before going on to private property. 5. Minimise your impact on the natural environment and use recognised access points. There are many unofficial access points which could be used with the owner’s consent. 6. Be sensitive to wildlife and other users regarding the level of noise you create. 7. Observe wildlife from a distance and be aware of sensitive locations such as bird nest sites, bird roosts, seals on land and wintering wildfowl and wader concentrations. 8. Follow the principles of ‘Leave No Trace’. For more information visit: www.leavenotraceireland.org 9. Keep the numbers in your party consistent with safety, the nature of the water conditions and the impact on your surroundings. 10. Biosecurity: sailors must help stop the spread of invasive species threatening our waterways and coasts! Wash and thoroughly dry boats, trailers and all other kit after a trip. Desiccation is effective against most invasive species, countering their serious environmental and economic impacts. WILDLIFE The lough is frequented by otter, seal and porpoise with occasional sightings of dolphin and basking shark around the mouth. Waders and wildfowl (often breeding in the arctic) winter along the Foyle, variously roosting on the surrounding land at high tide and feeding on mudflats as the tide recedes. Others, such as whooper swan, graze the grasslands. Those venturing out of the lough will experience the delights of sea bird colonies along the cliffs of Inishowen.

The group painstakingly combed the microfilm copies of the Strabane Chronicle and Strabane Weekly news and selected material and these included John Rogan, James Johnston, Joseph O’Kane, Hugh McGarrigle, Kathleen Patton, Chris McDermott, Pat McGuigan, William Allen, Ronnie Johnston, Michael Kennedy and John Dooher. The increase in the cost of living and the increased prices which the farmers was getting for his produce had been mainly instrumental in bringing about increased wages. The wages however are still very low. The usual daily wage current in 1913 were for men 2s to 3s 6d, for women 1s 6d to 3s. RESERVES CALLED UP IMMEDIATELY At the start of WW1 58,000 Irishmen were already enlisted in the British Regular Army or Navy – 21,000 serving regular soldiers, 18,000 reservists, 12,000 in the Special Reserve, 5,000 Naval ratings and 2,000 officers.
