These deals seek to improve the firm’s competitive position or even obtain resources and new capabilities that are vital to future prosperity, and improve the firm’s agility. The purpose of this work project is to make an analysis on Facebook’s acquisitions’ strategy going through the key acquisitions in the company’s history. More than understanding the economics of its most relevant acquisitions, the main research is aimed at understanding the strategic view and key drivers behind them, and trying to set a pattern through hypotheses testing, always bearing in mind the following question: Why does Facebook acquire emerging companies instead of replicating their key success factors? As indicated in the Foreword to part I, "'Trade and Development: Trends, Needs and Policies" (Sales No. :64.II.C.1), it consists of three chapters and an annex dealing with recent developments in the world economy. Chapter 1 analyses the situation in the industrially advanced private enterprise countries. Chapter 2 reviews current trends in the Countries that are heavily dependent on the export of primary commodities. Chapter 3 provides an account of recent changes in the centrally planned economies. The three chapters follow an introduction which draws attention to some of the salient features of the current situation. The annex presents a summary of the current primary commodity situation. Most of the analysis is concerned with the calendar year 1963; chapters 1 and 2 conclude with brief assessments of the outlook for 1964. These discussions of outlook draw to a large extent on the replies of Governments to a questionnaire on economic trends, problems and policies circulated by the Secretary-General in November 1963. Like part I, part II of the World Economic Survey, 1963 was prepared in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs by the Bureau of General Economic Research and Policies. -

According to data from the US Census, 81% of United States homes had a computer with internet access in 2016 and 76% of households had at least 1 one smartphone. Facebook is one of the internet’s largest services with 1.59 billion daily active 2 users and 2.41 billion monthly active users as of June 2019. Facebook’s massive user base gives it a platform to influence many parts of the world. Facebook began as a platform for connecting college students but now is a behemoth in entertainment, news, advertising, and more. Small decisions in how content is prioritized and what content is allowed to be posted have consequences across many cultures. This enormous power makes Facebook not only a social network that connects friends but a global leader that shapes the future. Unfortunately, the platform has been at the center of many controversies related to user 3,4 privacy, misinformation, and hate speech. -

Stream ciphers are an important class of encryption algorithms, which are widely used in practice. In this paper the security of the WAKE stream cipher is investigated. We present two chosen plaintext attacks on this cipher. The complexities of these attacks can be estimated as 1019.2 and 1014.4. Keywords. WAKE. Stream Cipher. Cryptanalysis. 1 Introduction Symmetric cryptosystems can be subdivided into block and stream ciphers. Block ciphers operate with a fixed transformation on large blocks of plaintext data; stream ciphers operate with a time- varying transformation on individual plaintext digits. Typically, a stream cipher consists of a keystream generator whose pseudo-random output sequence is added modulo 2 to the plaintext bits. A major goal in stream cipher design is to efficiently produce random-looking sequences. But the keystream can be generated efficiently; there certainly exists such a simple description. WAKE is the Word Auto Key Encryption algorithm, invented by David Wheeler [1]. It has a very simple description and produces a stream of 4n-bit words, which can be XORed with a plaintext stream to produce ciphertext, or XORed with a ciphertext stream to produce plaintext. It is fast on most modern computers, and relies on repeated table use and having a large state space. WAKE works in CFB mode; the previous ciphertext word is used to generate the next key word. The use of Mobile Messaging (MM) or Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM) has grown in the past few years at astonishing rates. This growth has prompted data gatherers and trend forecasters to look at the use of mobile messaging apps in different ways than in the past. In a 2015 survey, The Pew Research Center asked about use of mobile messaging apps separately from cell phone texting for the first time (Duggan, 2015). Digital marketing site eMarketer.com published their first ever worldwide forecast for mobile messaging in 2015. This forecast report shows 1.4 billion current users of mobile messaging apps or 5% of smartphone users accessing a mobile messaging app at least once month. This a 31.6% increase from the previous year. The forecast predicts that by 2018 there will be two billion users, representing 80% of smartphone users (eMarketer.com, 2015). -

The Dancing Bear { A New Way of Composing Ciphers Ross Anderson Cambridge University Abstract. This note presents a new way of composing cryptographic primitives which makes some novel combinations possible. For example, one can do threshold decryption using standard block ciphers, or using an arbitrary mix of different decryption algorithms { such as any three keysoutoftwoAESkeys,a3DESkey,anRSAkeyandaone-time pad. We also provide a new way to combine different types of primitive, such as encryption and signature. For example, Alice can construct a convertible signature that only Bob can verify, but which he can make world-verifiable using an AES key. We can incorporate even more ex- otic primitives, such as micropayments and puzzles, into compound con- structs. Previously, there had been two basic ways to combine cryptographic primitives. One could either design a compound primitive, perhaps us- ing the homomorphic properties of discrete exponentiation, or one could embed several primitives into a protocol. Neither is ideal for all appli- cations, and both have been extremely vulnerable to design errors. We provide a third construction that also allows the designer to do new things. We show, for example, how to incorporate cyclic dominance into a cryptographic mechanism, and how it might be used in a digital elec- tion scheme. Our new construction not only complements existing ways of composing crypto primitives; it also has the virtue of simplicity. 1 Introduction { Threshold Decryption One of the great attractions of public key primitives such as factorization and discrete log is that we can often combine them into compound cryptographic op- erations such as threshold decryption, electronic cash and digital elections (see for example [22]).
