Virabhai Devabhai Rabari Black TRAP MINING (AREA – 1.86.16 HECTARE) OF APPLICANT Mr. Virabhai Devabhai Rabari (Proprietor) AT Survey No. 194 Paikee, Vill: Thoriyali, Tal: Sayla, Dist: Surendranagar, Gujarat, India 1 | P a g e EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The application has been done for Black Trap for the Environment Clearance of lease area 1.86.16 hectare by M/s. Virabhai Devabhai Rabari is proprietor of the mining of mineral Black Trap. The project is located at Survey No: 194 Paikee in Thoriyali village Panchayat, Tal: Sayla, Dist: Surendranagar, Gujarat Some facts about the mining lease :- I. This is an Existing Black Trap mining project. II. The lease copy of Survey No: 194 paikee is attached as per Annexure-1 of Form- 1 application. III. Blasting shall be involved in this project. IV. Black Trap mining is done only in lease area as provided by the Geology and mining department. V. Approximately 40 Nos. of workers shall get employment opportunity. VI. Category of project – B VII. Sr. No. in the Schedule – 1(a) VIII. The existing Lease area – 1.86.16 hectare. IX. The production of Black Trap mineral is 42000 MT/Year. X. Water consumption is 2.5 KL/Day. Out of this, 1.2 KL/Day is used for Domestic purpose and 1.3 KL/Day is used for Sprnkling purpose. Source of Water is Bore well located at our stone crushing plant which is nearer to our mining activity. XI. There is no any industrial water consumption and wastewater generation from the project. XII. There is no any permanent power requirement for the proposed project. Approximately 80 Lit/Day Diesel is required only for the mining machinery i.e. excavator, compressor which is brought from nearby diesel pump. XIII. No such solid waste or hazardous waste is generated from mining. Only overburden and rejected materials (soil/stone) is generated. It is used for refilling of low lying area or paving roads. XIV. There is no any National Park, Forest, Wild Life Sanctuary, Eco Sensitive Area are notified industrial area are presented within 15 km radius of the project. 2 | P a g e INDEX SR. NO. The project name is Mr. Virabhai Devabhai Rabari which is located at Survey No: 194 Paikee, Vill: Thoriyali, Tal: Sayla, Dist: Surendranagar, Gujarat. Category of Project – B Sr. No. in the schedule – 1(a) The existing Lease area- 1.86.16 hactare The applicant Mr. Virabhai Devabhai Rabari is proprietor of this stone mining lease. The Lease application copy of survey no 194 paikee is attached as per Annexure – 1 of Form – 1 application. 1.2 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF NATURE OF PROJECT Black Trap Mining is a practice to extract Black Trap, mainly through lasting in Black Trap area is an open pit mining. Black Trap is a raw material for the Kapchee, greet like construction material. In the construction business Black Trap plays an important role. Black Trap is mineral present as stone benches. The height and thickness of bench is vary with place to place. The average thickness of the overburden is around 1.30 to 3.00 meters. The Over Burden or waste will be stacked separately temporarily for ultimate dispose off by means of backfilling and also for covering the mine area. Black Trap is excavated mechanically with blasting. The over burden/waste is backfilled is worked out areas. The average annual production of Black Trap @ 42000 MT/Year/ 1.3 NEED FOR THE PROJECT AND IMPORTANCE TO THE COUNTRY The Mining project falls in the area of the Surendranagar district, Guajrat. As industrial growth and infrastructure growth is going on day by day in Guajrat, there is huge requirement of concrete or kapchee that plays a very crucial role in any developing countries. These Black Trap should be transferred to stone crushing plant for making different size of kapchee. 1.4 DEMAND AND SUPPLY GAP As infrastructure growth as on peak in Gujarat, there is a huge demand of Black Trap as a raw material (To use by stone crusher company). There is a marginal gap between demands any supply. 4 | P a g e 1.5 EXPORT POSSIBILITY Black Trap extract from the mining is transferred to the stone crushing unit. 1.6 DOMESTIC/EXPORT MARKET Black Trap extract from the mining is transported to the nearby stone crushing unit. No export is proposed. 1.7 EMPLOYMENT GENERATION (DIRECT & INDIRECT) DUE TO THE PROJECT About 15 staff members including labors directly and approximately 20 persons will be engaged indirectly in this proposed Black Trap mining project. Thus total 18 people will get employment including directly or indirectly. Considering 5 people in a family total 35x5 = 175 will be benefited and shall depend on the mining activities of this mining lease area. 5 | P a g e CHAPTER – 2 PROJECT DESCRIPTION 2.1 TYPE OF PROJECT (INCLUDIUNG INTERLINKED AND INTERDEPENDENT PROJECTS, IF ANY) This is a proposed Mining project for production of mineral Black Trap from the lease, having an area of hectare. 2.2 LOCATION (MAP SHOWING GENERAL LOCATION, SPECIFIC LOCATION AND PROJECT BOUNDARY & PROJECT SITE LAYOUT) WITH COORDINATES. The entire project is 1.86.16 hectare. Key plan of the project is attached as per Annexure – 2 of Form – 1. Layout plan and short view is attached as per Annexure- 3 & 4 of Form-1. 2.3 DETAILS OF ALTERNATE SITES CONSIDERED AND THE BASIS OF SELECTING THE PROPOSED SITE, PARTICULARLY THE ENVIOURNMENTAL CONSIDRATION GONE INTO SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED. Since it is an existing Black Trap mining hence site specific, no alternative site considered. The proposed mining is in the lease area only for excavation of mineral Black Trap and overburden/soil layer. 2.4 SIZE AND MAGNITUDE OF OPERATION This is an existing Black Trap quarry project in a lease area of 1.86.16 hectare which has capacity to produce Black Trap annually @ 42000 MT/ear by opencast mining. 6 | P a g e 2.5 PROJECT DESCRIPTION WITH PROCESS DETAILS (A SCHEMETIC DIAGRAM/FLOW CHART SHOWING THE PROJECT LAYOUT, COMPONENTS OF PROJECT ETC. SHOULD BE GIVEN) At present the manual opencast mining will be carried out. There is no overburden is the area. Mining in general will be carried out by manual open case method by forming benches up to 2.0 to 3.0 m height. The sides of the benches have slopes at a safe angle not more than 45 degree from horizontal. Excavated Run Of Mine (ROM) will be subjected to manual sizing into fraction of +25 mm to – 100 mm. The yield of sized black trap will be around 85%, undersize Black Trap will be around 10% and remaining 5% as mining losses. Mining losses are on account of dust generation during drilling/blasting, wash off from the area etc. This sized black trap will be loaded into trucks manually and dispatched to the stone crushing plant. Remaining 10% of undersize material will be stacked on the worked out pit floor. Drilling and blasting will be also carried out by using air compressor and drill machine / jack hammer drill. Manufacturing process details is attached as per Annexure – 5 of Form – 1 application. Quarry limits of all workings are planned with a 7.5 mtrs statutory barriers against the lease boundary or roads existing in the lease hold. All haulage roads, the alignment of which keeps on changing depending upon the working in the pit, joins the existing surface roads of the lease hold. Four Wheeled Trolley attached to tractor will be generally used for movement of mineral. The mineral transported out of the lease hold will be with the help of tippers and trucks. All pit working will be securely fenced as per the standards prescribed by DGMS. Approach roads to pit faces shall be maintained as required. Mining will be carried out for black trap only. In the available thickness of 5 m of deposit, two benches are proposed to developed width of bench is proposed to at 3 – 4 m. 7 | P a g e BLASTING The Black Trap being medium hard category requires some drilling and blasting for excavation. To maintain a beach height of 3 meters, drilling by 65/100 mm dia drill machine, is recommended. However in future effort will be made to improve upon it. Blasting frequency is recommended as twice in every sis days (i.e. twice in every week). Benches shall be kept sloped at an angle of 15˚ to vertical, the bench slope height shall be 3.1 m and with sub – grade drilling 0.2 m. The depth of shot holes to be drilled shall be 3.3 m. BLASTING PATTERN For every hole, one delay detonator would be used. Blasting would be done by using short delay action detonators to reduce ground vibration.

    Impact of AKRSP(I) Intervention on Drought Coping by Rural Communities The Case of Surendranagar Programme Area Niraj Joshi Ashok Pingle Biswaranjan Patnaik Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) Preface Surendranagar district in Gujarat is one of the most drought-prone districts in the state, as all the blocks in this district are classified as drought-prone. In fact the term “normal year” becomes irrelevant, because it seems to be an exception rather than the rule. Rainfall has been below average in 7 out of the last 10 years, and the community finds it difficult to “progress” economically as the surplus income of any good year is quickly wiped out in the drought years. Furthermore, if there are 2-3 years of continuous drought, then villagers incur debt to survive and the next “normal” year(s) are used to pay off the debts or repurchase assets which were sold off. During drought years, the state provides drought relief, in terms of employment generation works, subsidized fodder supply and water supply through tankers. However, recurrent droughts also create a dependency syndrome amongst the community, wherein they stop taking any initiative to deal with their problems and expect the state to provide relief all the time. AKRSP (I), which has been working in this area for the last two decades has been struggling to evolve approaches which can help the rural communities overcome the impact of drought. Much of AKRSP (I)’s work has helped reduce this attitude of dependency. Drought not only affects employment availability, and hence food security, but also creates a shortage of fodder and drinking water.

    PREFACE Traversing of 10 years of Mahila Samakhya Gujarat has given tlie edge and excitement of watch­ ing the world through the eyes of poor rural women. Looking back gives a feeling of satisfaction that rural women of Mahila Samakhya Programme areas have created space for themselves and visibility for women has been created. In the older four dishcts, much work has been done to bring the social change for our women, in the newer two districts, efforts are made to strengthen the feet of Mahila Samakhya Programme, however, a discernible change is visible. The year 1998-99 passed amongst few difficulties but coming out of these successfully. During the year 1998-99, discussions and debate on decentralization strategy has remained ac­ tive. Many strong steps have emerged like registration of structures like Nari Adalat, registration of strong Sangha in Rajkot and a number of ongoing processes towards sustainability. A strong emphasis is thrust upon that strings of Mahila Samakhya will have to be broken in order to allow the free movement of balloons (Sanghas) in the sky (world). Moreover, Mahila Samakhya Gujarat has got its identity established as compared to erstwhile spreaded programme. Lot of efforts have gone into consolidation. It is difficult to discribe the work of one year in detail in a report, it is the processes which involves a lot of hard work. An effort has been made to highlight the different aspects of Programme areas for each district in order to give an overview of many facets of Mahila Samakhya Gujarat. 1 also take this opportunity to thank my team of Gujarat Mahila Samakhya, all the functionaries of Mahila Samakhya and a large number of friends of the Programme who have helped in enriching the quality of the Programme.
