<#»• HjHUECJlNS Lunch & Dinner 423-4327 Harvey Cocks (Reverend Dr. Lloyd) Harvey's relationship with Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse's hilarious tale of the red-headed Day Family in LIFE WITH FATHER has been almost life-long. He first "met" the Day's as John, the second son, and later played the eldest son Clarence in the Broadway production at the Empire Theatre. Harvey would return to Fort Wayne to recreate that role with the Civic Theatre in 1948, still using his stage name "Harvey Collins." In 1980, he directed the First Presbyterian Theatre's production, and now performs the role of the well intentioned Rev. Dr. Lloyd, originally created by Richard Sterling.

Harvey has made his life the theatre. He performed in the Broadway productions of AS THE GIRLS GO, BRIGHT BOY, and I'LL TAKE THE HIGH ROAD, was on television in PLACES, PLEASE, GOODYEAR PLAYHOUSE, BROADWAY OPEN HOUSE, STUDIO ONE, and ROBERT MONTGOMERY PRESENTS, and also received several awards for his work on local stages including Charles Dickens in A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Elwood P Dowd in HARVEY, and Dr. Lyman in BUS STOP, all with the Civic Theatre.

For the past eleven years, Harvey has served as Managing Director of the Fort Wayne Youtheatre. His multiple direction and playwrighting credits with the Youtheatre are highlighted by a number of outstanding works including I'LL TAKE THE HIGH ROAD the life story of James Dean, performed in 1987 and subsequently made into a film.

The Day family, who existed in real life, had their privacy first exposed to the public in a long series of gentle and hilarious memoirs of his childhood written by their eldest son Clarence Junior. First published in The New Yorker magazine, they were subsequently collected into three books: "Life With Father" "Life With Mother," and "God and Father." In 1937, Howard Lindsay approached collaborator Russel Crouse about trying to make a play out of the incidents mentioned in the stories. After two years of work, which included getting permission for the stage presen tation from then-still-living Vinnie Stockwell Day, LIFE WITH FATHER opened in New York at the Empire Theatre on November 8, 1939. The play was unanimously acclaimed creating a phenomenal demand for tickets. The run continued until July 12, 1947, for an all time record 3,224 performances. This Broadway record remained unbroken until June 17, 1972, when LIFE WITH FATHER was passed by in the number of performances. LIFE WITH FATHER remains the longest run ning straight play in Broadway history. The Hospital That Supports The Arts
