Recreational Program ERO Salzburg 2018 European Regional Organization Plenary Session (12) 13 – 14 April 2018, SALZBURG, AUSTRIA Recreational Program Location SALZBURG CONGRESS http:// www.salzburgcongress.at The congress center is located down town with a view to the Mirabell gardens and is set in an ideal location in the heart of the city. From the congress center it's just a few minutes' walk to the train station, the old city, tourist attractions and a variety of shops. Thursday, 12th April 2018 / 19 - 21 h Welcome Cocktail at Steinterrasse with a marvelous view of the city offered by the Austrian Dental Association Friday, 13th April 2018 – Excursion / 14 -17 h (3 hours) – for accompanying persons Walk through the city of Salzburg (English guided tour) We start the walking tour right at the Congress Center, located next to the Castle of Mirabell and Mirabell Gardens. The price for the tour applies for groups of a minimum of 20 persons. It includes guide service. Price per person 30 € Friday, 13th April 2018 / 19 h Dinner in Stieglkeller (Festungsgasse 10, Salzburg) Enjoy traditional Austrian Food and the great view over Salzburg. The Stieglkeller is located in the heart of the old town in Salzburg, below the Fortress of Hohensalzburg.The garden offers a marvellous view! Above the rooftops of Salzburg´s old town you will learn what is meant by hospitality and beer garden culture in Salzburg. You will get to know the variety of the brewery culture in Salzburg. Price per person 80 € Saturday, 14th April 2018 / 14 – ca. 21 h Welcome to Salzkammergut The Salzkammergut is a resort area located in Austria. It stretches from the City of Salzburg eastwards along the Austrian Alpine Foreland and the Northern Limestone Alps to the peaks of the Dachstein Mountains, spanning the federal states of Upper Austria, Salzburg, and Styria. The main river of the region is the Traun, a right tributary of the Danube. The name Salzkammergut literally means "Estate of the Salt Chamber" and derives from the Imperial Salt Chamber, the authority charged with running the precious salt mines of the Habsburg Monarchy. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl, Upper Austria, was the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sisi. Originally the palace was a Biedermeier villa belonging to a Viennese notary. After Franz Joseph's engagement to Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria in 1853, Franz Joseph's mother, Princess Sophie of Bavaria, purchased the villa as a wedding present for the couple. In subsequent years, the villa was altered and expanded in a Neoclassical style. The extant central portion was expanded towards the park and the originally posterior portion of the house was converted to form the entrance with Classical columns and tympana. Two additional wings were constructed, giving the building the overall shape of an "E". The villa is surrounded by a large park in the "English Style". Today, the mansion is home to the Archduke Markus Habsburg, but also offers grounds tours to the public. On our way back to Salzburg we stop at Wolfgangsee and make a round trip by boat. We will have music and snacks on the boat. We will pass by the village of St. Wolfgang and stop at the village of St. Gilgen to have the opportunity for a traditional dinner at the Gasthof zur Post. The settlements around the lake, especially St. Wolfgang and St. Gilgen are popular resort towns, mainly in summer. The Gasthaus Weißes Rössl at St. Wolfgang is the set of the famous 1897 operetta The White Horse Inn by Ralph Benatzky, performed throughout the world and filmed several times. Furthermore, the area around the lake was the location of several movies, suggesting an untouched alpine idyll. The price for the tour applies for groups of a minimum of 30 persons. It includes transport service, guide service, entrance fee to the Kaiservilla, boat trip with traditional music and snacks. The Dinner at Gasthof zur Post is included. Price per person 70 € .

A new problematic dasycladale is described as Hirundoporella dachsteinensis nov. gen., n. sp. from the Upper Triassic bedded Dachstein Limestone of Mount Dachstein, Austria. It is characterized by individualized phloiophorous laterals, open at the ends and secondary laterals of low number arising in the middle part of the primaries. Nothing is known about the obviously thin and poorly calcified main-axis and the overall arrangement of the primaries. The microfacies is represented by a wackestone composed to about 70 % of dismembered laterals of Hirundoporella dachsteinensis n. sp. Key Words: Calcareous Algae, Dasycladales, Upper Triassic, Norian-Rhaetian, Dachstein Limestone, Northern Calcareous Alps, Austria INTRODUCTION The Austroalpine Dachstein nappe with the Dachstein mountains is part of the Triassic shallow marine carbonate shelf that at its southern rim bordered the Tethys ocean with the adjacent deeper water Hallstatt realm (e.g. Haas et al., 1995, Mandl 2000). The Upper Triassic Dachstein-type platforms are widespread in the Mediterranean realm and even Japan (Kristan-Tollmann 1991). The Dachstein facies comprises reefs at the southern border, northward passing into back-reef and lagoonal deposits of the so-called “bedded Dachstein limestone” (e.g. Zankl 1971). The latter exhibits a typical cyclicity, the so-called “Lofer cyclothems” (layer A, B, C) studied by Fischer (1964). With respect to the reefal and near-reef facies, a more detailed differentiation has been established with typical assemblages of benthic foraminifera and dasycladales (Senowbari-Daryan & Schäfer, 1978, 1979; Wurm, 1982).

It analyzes the narrative of Austrian history presented by the Heldendenkmal, or Heroes’ Monument, which was erected in Vienna in 1934. Further, it argues that Pietas Austriaca was linked in the postwar period to a notion of Heimat (Home, Homeland) and served the needs of Austrian political Catholicism, which was seeking to recruit former National Socialists.     © Lonely Planet Publications 245 THE SALZKAMMERGUT The Salzkammergut Sometimes called the ‘cradle of Austrian culture’, the Salzkammergut is a spectacular region of alpine and sub-alpine lakes, picturesque valleys, rolling hills and rugged, steep mountain ranges. The highest mountains climb to almost 3000m. Not least because of the Salzkammergut’s startling beauty, parts of this region – especially those lakes easily reached from Salzburg – can at times be swamped with visitors. But don’t despair – much of the region is remote wil- derness, and even in those heavily visited parts such as the Wolfgangsee and Mondsee, you’ll always find isolated sections where peaceful, glassy waters provide limitless opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing or just sitting on the shore and chucking stones into the water. The popular Hallstätter See is no exception. When the pretty streets in Hallstatt township are full of summer visitors, across the lake a sleepy, swampy Obertraun retains a village atmosphere. Strike out deeper into the region, and you will be rewarded with isolated splendour. Salt is the ‘white gold’ of the Salzkammergut, and the mines that made it famous now make for an interesting journey back in time to the settlers of the Iron Age Hallstatt culture, and to the Celts and Romans – all of whom sullied their hands in the mines. Along the western side of the Hallstätter See is a pipeline reputed to be the oldest in the world, used to transport brine. Today, the narrow swathe cut out to build and service the pipeline is a lush hiking trail. Whatever your reason for coming to the Salzkammergut – swimming, boating, hiking, climbing or exploring cultures – this region rewards the curious and adventurous.
