Methods A 2461-bp DNA sequence dataset was generated from one nuclear and two mitochondrial gene fragments in 87 specimens, covering all nominal taxa of the genus Allognathus. Through maximum-likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic methods along with a Bayesian molecular clock, we examined the evolutionary history of the group. Ancestral distribution ranges were estimated for divergence events across the tree using a Bayesian approach. We also used genetic species-delimitation models to determine the taxonomy of Allognathus. Results We provided the first molecular phylogeny of Allognathus, a genus endemic to the Balearic Islands. The origin of the genus in the Balearic Islands was dated to the middle Miocene based on palaeogeographical events in the Western Mediterranean. During the late Miocene and Pliocene, several diversi- fication events occurred within the archipelago. The ancestral range of Allogna- thus was reconstructed as the north-eastern Tramuntana Mountains of Mallorca. -

Present results are compared with those from recent literature and the current knowledge on phylogenetic relationships among Helicidae pulmonate gastropods is reviewed. Obtained results suggest that: i) Cornu Born, 1778 and Cantareus Risso, 1826 are separate and well distinct from Helix Linnaeus, 1758 ; ii) Erctella Monterosato, 1894 is a valid and independent genus rather than a subgenus of Cornu ; iii) Cornu aspersum (O.F. Müller, 1774) is a group of species (i.e. " aspersum " group) whose taxonomic status needs to be defin further studies; iv) Cornu , Cantareus and Erctella might belong to the same tribe that, still, remains to be defined. -

La sistemàtica a nivell supraspecífic s’ha basat principalment en el CLECOM i revisions ulteriors. S’assenyalen els tàxons endèmics, així com aquells que han estat introduïts i naturalitzats. En este artículo se presenta una lista taxonómica actualizada de las especies y subespecies de moluscos continentales (terrestres y de agua dulce) de Cataluña: en total, 249 especies de gasterópodos (273 contando las subespecies) y 19 especies de bivalvos (24 contando las subespecies). INTRODUCTION THEshells of land snails of the genus Cepaea Held. display striking colour and banding polymorphisms which have attracted the attention of many workers, particularly as supposed examples of random varia- tion. Cain and Sheppard (i) have shown, however, that the pro- portions of different varieties in colonies of Cepaea nemoralis L. can be related to the colour and uniformity of the background. They explain this relation, but not the maintenance of the polymorphism itself, in terms of selective visual predation, which has been demonstrated by Sheppard (1951). Lamotte (1951) admits the existence of visual selection, but regards it as unimportant. The most cogent of his arguments is that he can find no correlation between the variations in C. nenwralis L. and C. hortensis Mull, living together in mixed colonies. The two species are almost identical in appearance, show a similar range of phenotypes, and seem to share the same predators. Lamotte reasons that if visual predation were important in determining the proportions of pheno- types, the two species should show parallel variation. They do not. Cain and Sheppard argue that this result does not necessarily con- tradict their hypothesis. The consequences of visual predation may be influenced by the non-visual selective values of the various phenotypes, values that are unlikely to be the same in both species. Small differ- ences in ecology or behaviour might also result in a different pattern of selection, even from the same predator. -
