Juice fasting was considered a very extreme thing to do at that time, but I felt tired and unattractive. I was sure that if I could only lose the last eight pounds of “baby fat,” I would “get my shine back” and be happy and energetic again. I attended the only juice-fasting program I could fi nd, knowing I needed to get out of my day-to-day routine in order to succeed. It was my good fortune that my choice led me to noted holistic life- style coach Alison Shore Gaines at the world famous Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, Massachusetts. Alison’s skilled guidance and the safe, compassionate environment of the Kripalu Center were the catalysts for my personal transformation and became the foundation for the American Yogini Juice Cleanse. When I fi rst arrived at Kripalu, I thought that fasting was a depriva- tion that forced your body to lose weight. When I left a week later, los- ing weight had become the least of my concerns. It had happened easily, but I hardly cared anymore because I had gained such life-changing insight and inspiration. It was my huge “aha” moment. On a cellular level, the tissue cleansing that goes on during a juice fast had liberated my body. Yoga postures and positions that had always been a struggle for me suddenly felt easy and right. And even after I returned home, what I had learned and experienced stayed with me. It didn’t matter what came at me; I knew how to manage my energy, when to focus, when to soften. I began to use a juice cleanse on an annual basis. [ v ] As I continued my practice of annual cleansing, other things began to change. My life moved through diff erent phases. My kids grew, my relationships changed, I experienced losses and gains, easy times and hard times. But I realized that when I chose to do a cleansing fast during any time of transition, I gained incredible clarity. Before long, I noticed a simple yet stunning example of how the straightforward act of cleansing my body had changed me: I literally gained a sense of direction. I used to get habitually lost. Even in familiar places, I was incapable of fi nding my way from point A to point B without having to call my husband to ask which way to turn. It sounds crazy, but as I began to tune into my own self and the information that served me, I stopped getting lost. It was then that I began to appreciate the impor- tance of what I was doing and realized that I needed to share the mes- sage of the transformative power of juice cleansing with others. The Seven-Day Total Cleanse is not simply a “detox diet” or a “fast.” It is a revolutionary seven-day program of renewal, refl ection, and revitalization that will literally change your life.     FASTING The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do. TYPES OF FASTS COMPLETE FAST This fast calls for drinking only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option. SELECTIVE FAST This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food. PARTIAL FAST This fast is sometimes called the Jewish Fast and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown. SOUL FAST This fast is common for those who do not have much experience fasting food, who have health issues that prevent them from fasting food, or who wish to refocus certain areas of their life that are out of balance.

The method allows for important points of similarity and difference to be noted among these groups’ founders and members. This research contributes particularly to radical Christian groups’ place in the vegetarian movement’s modern history. This study demonstrates how and why Christian vegetarianism developed in the nineteenth century and to what extent it influenced the secular vegetarian movement and wider society. It contextualizes nineteenth-century Christian vegetarianism in the wider movement of temperance, and considers why vegetarianism never made inroads into mainstream churches in the way that the temperance movement did.

    Healing the Intestinal Tract Is the Foundation To All Other Healing Having been poisoned with mercury fillings in 1976 and suffered from chronic constipation and adrenal exhaustion for 24 years, I know a thing or two about healing the digestive track.
