ISBN 0-9723008-0-5 Innumerable thanks to: George Goodheart Creator of Applied Kinesiology; in my opinion, the highest expression of Functional Medicine that exists in the world today. He is a brilliant mind, a noble heart, and a gifted physician. Lance West He was my model, mentor, and friend. With loving persistence he opened my hands and my heart to the art of healing. Harry Eidenier He is the master alchemist of human biochemistry, diagnosis, and clinical nutrition. As his apprentice for almost 20 years, I have never ceased to be moved by his knowledge and desire to serve, and am thankful to call him my friend. What If ... You were able to know, in a just few minutes, exactly how each part of your body functioned. You also knew precisely what to do to restore its functions. You suddenly had answers to health problems that had plagued you for a long time. You could retest your body systems to determine if whatever you were doing was, indeed, working for you. You could do this whenever you wanted and it would cost you nothing. You could read your lab work and know exactly what it all meant. You could clearly see trends toward illness on your lab work (often, even when your doctor may tell you the findings are perfectly normal) and know precisely what to do to prevent illness before it ever develops. You knew exactly what elements make for optimum health and you also knew how to incorporate them into your life so that your life would continually become richer and more rewarding. You have the tool that will help you do all these things and much more right in your hands! This workbook might seem intimidating; its pretty big. However, the strategies for restoring, optimizing, and protecting your health are easily understood and straightforward. Think of it as an encyclopedia an encyclopedia humanica where you can find answers to questions about your health. You dont have to read the book cover to cover. Make use of all of the tools and strategies offered in this workbook or just the ones that work best for you. Foreword Many times over the past thirty years I have been asked to write endorsements and/or critiques for books written by health care providers. Generally, I have complied with the authors wishes. However, none have been easier than this one. Why? Because in my thirty years in the health care business, I can honestly say I have never had a friend or associate who cared more about getting their patients well. Dr. Force is an extremely intelligent physician who not only knows what tools to use to help his patients resolve their problem(s), but also more importantly knows how to communicate with them and motivate them to want to help themselves achieve a higher level of health. This is evident throughout this book. There is a health crisis in this country. Insurance companies (mainly through HMO/PPO plans) now control the health care available to you in this country. Decisions are often made concerning your health on the basis of profitability rather than your needs. In that insurance companies understandably tend to not want to pay until they have to, with disease-prevention health care becoming the exception rather than the norm. The tendency is to pay for heart bypass surgery, for instance, rather than to prevent the heart disease in the first place. There are more doctors in this country who practice as specialists than there are general and family practitioners. Although specialists are important in health care, it brings to mind the blind men all feeling a different part of an elephant and all believing an elephant is like the leg or the trunk or the tail. They dont see the whole elephant, and thus miss the bigger picture. Modern medicine is often like that, looking ever more closely at smaller and smaller parts and forgetting to see the patient as a whole person. There now is a need, more than ever, for you to have control over your own health. Though modern medicine can be great when youre in the grips of a health crisis, its better to avoid the crisis altogether by protecting your health yourself with the tools here. This workbook is the absolute best guide to self health care I have reviewed. Read it and reread it until you fully understand it, and then begin your journey to better health. Believe me, you will never find a better or more understandable guide. In short, this is the finest book of its type I have ever had the privilege of reviewing. Harry Eidenier December 2002 Introduction This workbook comes from my twenty years practicing the healing arts. Originally, I was looking for answers for myself; later I was looking for answers for others. I found both in abundance. Now, I see miracles every day in my practice. People reclaim their lives, overcome illness, become free from pain, regain energy, strength, and mental clarity, and again enjoy the health and well-being that is their birthright. As wonderful as it is to work with my patients, I can contact only so many people each day. I came to realize that many of the methods and tools I use with my patients could be taught, and that these methods and tools could empower and change the lives of an unlimited number of people. Hence, this workbook was written. Its a workbook because its something you use rather than read. What you have in your hands is a tool that gives you the ability to restore and protect your health. This is the one and only workbook that teaches you a process called Functional Selfcare. This revolutionary process puts the tools of Functional Medicine (a process in health care that in the past has only been available to physicians) into your hands. Beyond treating symptoms, this workbook will teach you how to restore health by restoring function. By using the strategies in this workbook, you will use your symptoms as guides, do home testing, and read your own lab work. You will know exactly where you are, precisely what to do to restore your body functions, and measure the results of your work. Symptoms and illnesses wont be an elusive mystery anymore; you will have control over your own health. Mark Force, D.C. Pang1 (1) Clifford Hospital, 8 Shiguang Road, Panyu, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China Corresponding author: cpang@ Oncothermia Journal, June 2013 35 Progress of research of hyperthermia integration with TCM in the treatment of cancer With the development of clinical oncotherapies, integrative treatments have generally been recognized by the Oncology Association. Hyperthermia has proven its effectiveness in the treatment of cancer which is different from surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and biotherapy. Besides integration with the above therapies, using this with TCM is a unique approach. The progress of research of hyperthermia integration with TCM in treating cancer will be presented according to the following six aspects:l 1. The advantages of hyperthermia in the treatment of cancer 2. The advantages of TCM in treating cancer 3. The advantages of hyperthermia in combination with TCM 4. An overview of the implementation of hyperthermia integration with TCM in treating cancer in Clifford Hospital 5. Clinical report of integrative therapy 6. The future of hyperthermia integration with TCM in treating cancer 1. The advantages of hyperthermia in treating cancer 1.1. Hyperthermia is part of the field of Natural Medicine. It targets cancer cells directly, improves the immune system, induces apoptosis of cancer cells, suppresses the formation of cancer vessels, destroys cancer vessels, and relieves pain caused by cancer. At the same time, hyperthermia has demonstrated no damage to normal tissue. 1.2. • Alternative Sports Medicine What's New and How You Can Get Back
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 2007 Contact: Sue Seecof, Rolf Institute, [email protected], 800-530-8875 Alternative Sports Medicine What’s New And How You Can Get Back On Your Feet In No Time Boulder, CO..."Alternative approaches can be helpful for just about any soft tissue injury an athlete’s likely to incur, whether it’s a less-serious acute problem, such as a sprain or pulled hamstring, or a chronic condition such as tendonitis or knee pain." Women’s Outside, Fall ‘99. Kristen Ulmer, former World Champion Extreme skier and U.S. Freestyle Ski team, mogul specialist, who had a series of knee surgeries as a result of injuries and tendonitis says, "After the surgery I had excruciating pain and could not drive or walk." Revered as the "best female Extreme skier" for the past 8-9 years, Ulmer tried Rolfing® bodywork for soft tissue injuries and says it brought her hips and ankles back into alignment, and the pain disappeared. "It healed so fast I can't believe it!" says Kristen. "The expected 6 month recovery time was cut in half, and three months after surgery I was trekking to Cho Oyu on a Himalayan ski expedition." "Ulmer was desperate to find relief from her chronic knee pain. So after her most recent surgery, she rested her knee and signed up for ten Rolfing treatments. By the time she had received Rolfing from head to toe, she was pain-free for the first time in years and is back on the slopes." Women's Sports and Fitness, July ‘99.

  • Juice Fasting Guidelines and Recipes
Juice Fasting Guidelines and Recipes For optimal health, detoxification or weight loss can be important goals, especially when there are endocrine/hormonal imbalances. Both goals are supported by juice fasting. These guidelines and recipes are provided to educate you to use this strategy wisely and effectively. (Note: Pregnant or nursing women, children and others with medical conditions that may be aggravated by juice fasting should not fast.) Through diet and lifestyle, we all take in toxins from our foods and environment; these build up in our bodies faster than they can be removed through natural processes. Coffee, fried foods, fast food, alcohol, frequent consumption of red meat, energy drinks with high doses of caffeine and other stimulants, and processed foods with additives, preservatives, and high salt content are particularly problematic. The liver works hard to clean these toxins out, but can become overwhelmed resulting in weight gain, blood sugar issues, fatigue, mood swings, irritability, insomnia, body odor, skin complaints and constipation. Fortunately, your liver is actually able to heal and repair itself; through juice fasting, you can give your liver a reprieve and help it clean out the toxins. When your liver is functioning well, many health problems are relieved, and you will maintain a healthy weight and balanced hormonal function. Consider having one day per week of juice fasting when you are able to relax at home. It is not advisable to continue a juice fast for more than one day at a time; one day per week is able to support the detox and weight loss goals of most people.

  • Detoxification Protocol
Dr. Joel Cone/Dr. Alexis Dobson www.diagnosticnaturalmedicine.com (512) 577-7234 Detoxification Protocol Periodic detoxification makes sense in keeping your body as fine tuned and healthy as possible. We know many disease states, including heart disease, cancer, and chronic inflammatory disease states have a strong correlation with diet, lifestyle, and environmental factors. There are many different cleanse ideas, but if we start with the knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body we can make the best approach to a detoxification process possible. We know that there are several systems by which toxins and waste products are eliminated through the body. By having knowledge of these systems we can increase our ability to aggressively detoxify our body. There are four major detoxification systems our body uses. The first is the respiratory system which eliminates gaseous waste products such as carbon dioxide, a waste by product of glucose metabolism. Another system is the integumentary system, in which lactic acid and various other wastes are removed. We also use the digestive system, especially the hepatobiliary system to remove some cholesterol, bile secretions, and other toxins bound in bile. The liver is also the primary congugator of metabolic toxins into water soluble products which can be sent to the kidney for removal. The remaining system is the renal system, in which the kidney removed nitrogenous wastes, including urea, ammonia, creatinine, and other drug metabolites from the body. I have also added the lymphatic and circulatory system as an elimination component, as they play a crucial role in the mobilization of compounds that need to be removed from the body.

Rolfing is an American form of somatic bodywork that strives to overcome the Cartesian mind/body split. Through structural work via manual manipulation, Rolfing attempts to achieve physical health and emotional intelligence. This paper explores four major aspects of Rolfing as American Metaphysical religiosity, as defined by Catherine L. Albanese in Republic of Mind and Spirit: A Cultural History of American Metaphysical Religion. The project also explores the origins of somatic bodywork and the metaphysical idea of spiritual transformation through physical change. The Esalen Institute is examined for its part in developing a secular American metaphysical religiosity that fostered and promoted Rolfing.
