Take Another Piece Of My Heart (#p40137) by SweMaria » Sun Nov 14, 2010 5:28 pm I love Dusty's version of this song!! I think she sounds so cool, sensitive and tough at the same time ,when she sings it. I love the arrangement and the way the backing singers sing too! Did she perform the song live? I think I've read that she recorded it before Janis Joplin did it? Is that true? I couldn't find Dusty's version of the song on Youtube...

Then Janis Joplin as well as Dusty did their versions both in 1968, but I'm not sure who was first. I normally always prefer Dusty, but Janis Joplin's raspy voice is also very cool and fits perhaps better.

Unfortunately Dusty's interpretation is not on youtube. Of course would love to hear Dusty singing this song live, but I don't believe she did.

I've also read that Erma Franklin recorded the song first and I like her version! Janis' version was the first I heard and I've always loved it But I think it's impossible to compare it with Dusty's - they are both so good but in different ways. I love Dusty's restrained and powerfull version too!
As you said Dusty's version is not on youtube..
