Shannon will next be seen in Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, a love story set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America. The film co-stars Sally Hawkins, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Octavia Spencer. Fox Searchlight will release the film December 2017. In 2018, Shannon will return to Red Orchard Theatre for its 25th Anniversary to direct the world premiere of Traitor, Brett Neveu's adaption of Henrik Ibsen's Enemy of the People. Traitor will include ensemble members Dado, Larry Grimm, Danny McCarthy, Guy Van Swearingen and Natalie West and will run from January 5, 2018 through February 25, 2018. Back on the big screen, Shannon will then be seen in the Nicolai Fuglsig’s 12 Strong opposite Chris Hemsworth. The project follows a team of CIA agents and special forces who head into Afghanistan in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks in an attempt to dismantle the Taliban. Warner Brothers is releaseing the film in January 2018. Later next year, Shannon will also be seen in writer-director Elizabeth Chomko’s drama, What They Had, opposite Hilary Swank. The story centers on a woman who must fly back to her hometown when her Alzheimer's-stricken mother wanders into a blizzard and the return home forces her to confront her past, which includes her brother (Shannon).

    SIMON MOORE Writer/ Director Television: Simon’s first TV series was INSIDE OUT, a 6 part drama for the BBC about two women running an unemployment agency for ex-cons. TRAFFIK, a 6 hour mini series for Channel 4 about the international heroin business. Filmed in Pakistan, Germany and England, it starred Bill Paterson and Lindsay Duncan. The series was a huge critical success throughout the world, winning many awards including the international EMMY for “Best Series”, 4 BAFTA Awards, 4 FIPA awards, the top prizes at the BAMPF and Umbria Fiction Festivals, and the UK Critics award as “Best Series”. Simon adapted Jonathan Swift’s GULLIVER’S TRAVELS for NBC/ Channel 4/ Hallmark/ Hensons. Critically acclaimed in the USA and UK, the four part mini series had 57,600,000 viewers in the US. Exploring audiences’ responses to film acting Sarah Ralph, University of East Anglia, UK Martin Barker, Aberystwyth University, UK Abstract: The part played by acting in audiences’ responses to films is largely unexplored – but often assumed to be considerable. In this essay, we report on the results of a small research project into this, using the 1995 film The Usual Suspects as a focus and stimulus. Deliberately recruiting a mix of audiences, the project resulted in twelve discussion groups. Out of the responses of these groups, we explore the variety of ways in which acting plays a part within people’s responses, and outline a tentative model for theorising this relationship. Keywords: film acting, performance, The Usual Suspects, audience responses. In the 2012 film Albert Nobbs, Glenn Close plays a middle-aged woman in late 19th century Dublin, who for most of her life has ‘passed’ as a man, working in service in hotels. The story unfolds around the discovery of her sex when she is forced to share her room with Hubert, a visiting painter and decorator – who in ‘his’ turn discloses that she too is secretly a woman – and married to a third, Cathleen. There is a particularly striking scene where, following Albert’s thinking about the implications of this (s/he had always thought herself completely alone), s/he visits the couple. Albert is persuaded to try going out (perhaps for the first time in thirty years) dressed as a woman. At first unable even to cross the doorstep, she does go, and we see the two ‘men’ in long skirts walking along a windy beach.
