About Us: Kahikatea Gardens has been in the Montgomerie family for three generations. Neil and Greg will explain features of the garden as they guide visitors around the garden and orchard. The tour begins with a walk through a grove of ancient New Zealand native trees. There are many flowering shrubs and trees in the garden. Climbing roses drape over old post and rail fences and old machinery feature as pieces of art throughout the garden. The old cowshed and stables are filled with interesting "treasures" which trace the early farming years. Walnut, hazel, chestnut, pine nut, fruit and citrus trees feature in the garden and nearby orchard. Excess produce is made into jams and chutneys. These are sold at the gardens, along with the walnuts and hazelnuts. There are many special spots in the garden for photographs. The garden is very popular for wedding ceremonies and photographs.

Our Animals: In a paddock adjacent to the garden there is a special area set aside for visitors to interact with the animals. The central lane allows visitors to walk through the pet sheep, miniature horses, alpacas, and donkeys. All the animals like to be patted and look forward to being given a treat or two. There are many photo opportunities with the animals and Neil and Greg will ensure that no one misses out on a truly unique kiwi experience! About Neil & Greg: Neil is the fifth generation of his family to call Greytown home. Neil worked predominately in the public and local government sector both in New Zealand and overseas. He has lived in South Africa, England, Austria, India, and Singapore. Greg is a fifith generation kiwi and his mother was born in nearby Martinborough. He established one of Wairarapa's first commerical olive groves and imported the first olive press to the Wairarapa from Italy. Greg has owned and operated exclusive Bed & Breakfast lodges in New Zealand.
