TASPers (as TASP participants are called) have a wide variety of life experiences, and come from many different kinds of backgrounds. Telluride Association hopes the TASP experience endows its students with a sense of intellectual vitality, interpersonal awareness, and community responsibility that will prepare them for leadership in whatever walk of life they choose. TASP is one of the most successful and prestigious academic summer programs in the nation. The more than 2,500 living TASP alumni include leaders in politics, journalism, academia, the sciences, education, medicine, business, and the arts. For many, the six-week Telluride Association program was a formative experience in their lives. Telluride Association Summer Programs are free. UGA YOUNG SCHOLARS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM The Young Scholars Program is a six week summer University of Georgia, Athens internship for high school students interested in science, agriculture, or engineering. Through the program, young June 4 - 13, 2012 scientists are given the opportunity to study within an agricultural field, such as entomology, food science, genetics, etc., and learn about applied science in agriculture. Students work side by side with a mentor, with whom they will interact on a daily basis to develop a research project and create a presentation. At the end of the program, each participant presents their research and findings. The goal of the Young Scholars Program is to encourage outstanding high school students to explore new areas and pursue a future career in science. As a high school student, you will have the opportunity to earn money for six weeks during the summer working with animals, plants, insects, machinery, scientific lab equipment, etc. The program is opened to students that have finished their sophomore year, juniors and seniors and are 16 years by June 1. Application deadline is January 31, 2012 - transcript and two letters of recommendation from science, math or agriculture teachers are required. A typical daily schedule includes: four hours of lecture two hours of application and/or lab work two and a half hours of homework Admission Applicants are evaluated on the basis of individual high school records, recommendations, personal letters, non-academic activities, and standardized test scores. Students who have not taken the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or TOEFL examinations are still encouraged to apply. In order to provide personal attention to all students, enrollment is limited. Students are evaluated on a "first come" basis. Applications received after the April 20 deadline are accepted only if room is available. Rising high school seniors (who will be twelfth graders next academic year) should indicate if they plan to take advanced placement or honors mathematics or science during their senior year. Barcelo I1t & David Wippman In Paul's passing, Cornell and the broader international law commu- nity have lost a man of exceptional intellect who was devoted to interna- tional law and to Cornell. Paul received both his bachelor's degree in engineering (in 1952) and his master's in law (in 1956) from Cornell, and went on to become a consummate international lawyer, one that other international lawyers sought out when they needed advice on a particu- larly thorny international law issue. Paul's range and depth of knowledge of international law were unsurpassed, drawn from close to half a century of scholarship and international public service. But even more impressive were the many and lasting contributions he made to the cause of interna- tional peace and the common interests of the international community. Paul began his career with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, where for eight years he helped draft regulations designed to pre- vent the use of civilian nuclear materials for military purposes.
