CENTRE FOR EQUITABLE LIBRARY ACCESS The Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) is an accessible library service, providing books, magazines and newspapers to people with print disabilities in Canada in the formats of their choice. CELA’s mission is to support public libraries in Canada in the provision of accessible collections for people with print disabilities in equal measure to that which is enjoyed by other members of their communities, and to champion the fundamental right of people with print disabilities to access media and reading materials in the format of their choice. Rina Hadziev is the Executive Director of CELA. She was a member of the CELA board from 2016–2019 and has played a key role advocating for improved access to ebooks and digital audiobooks for libraries and their patrons through her participation with the Canadian Urban Libraries Council Digital Content Working Group. Rina has over 15 years of experience in public library leadership, with roles in public services, collections and technical services. NNELS The National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS) is a digital public library of books for people with print disabilities in Canada, and an advocate for an accessible and equitable reading ecosystem for all people in Canada. The goals of NNELS are to build capacity and employment opportunities for people with print disabilities, to advance the agenda of “born accessible” publishing, and to develop and maintain a digital 7 repository of accessible books for people with print disabilities in Canada, delivered through the network of public libraries in Canada. LEAH BROCHU is the Accessible Publishing Coordinator for NNELS, a librarian, and a Senior Managing Editor for the International Journal for Information, Diversity, & Inclusion. The script had 30 consonantal characters, of which 6 were created specifically to match Tibetan phonology. Three orthographic standardisations were developed. Standard orthography has not altered since then, while the spoken language has changed by, for example, losing complex consonant clusters.   • Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) in a Nutshell
    Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) in a nutshell Objectives: The aim of the Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) is to increase the number of books worldwide in accessible formats (braille, audio and large print) and to make them available to people who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled. Who we are: The ABC is an alliance led by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and involves advocacy organizations, authors, libraries for the blind, publishers, and standards bodies. Participants include the World Blind Union, DAISY Consortium, International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment, Perkins School for the Blind, Sightsavers, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, lnternational Publishers Association, International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations and the International Authors Forum. What we do: • Capacity Building – training in developing countries for local NGOs, government departments, and commercial publishers who want to produce and distribute their books in accessible formats. Projects were completed successfully in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka during 2015, with 1,588 accessible educational materials/books produced in national languages benefitting over 23,500 students. • ABC Book Service (i.e., TIGAR) – a global library catalogue of books in accessible formats that enables libraries serving the print disabled to share items in their collections, rather than duplicating the costs of converting them to accessible formats. Over 58,000 people with print disabilities have borrowed accessible books through the 15 participating libraries in the ABC Book Service. Participating libraries saved $8.4million in production costs by being able to download 4,208 electronic books into their collections. • Inclusive Publishing – activities to promote accessible book production techniques within the commercial publishing industry so that e-books are usable by both sighted people and those with print disabilities.
