Educating our Community for Success

Spring Term Friday 10th January 2020

Dear Parents and carers

On behalf of the school community I would like to wish you Happy New Year – I hope it is a successful one for you and your families, as we enter a new decade!

At the start of this term we welcome new staff - Mr Tom Jeffrey (Science), Mrs Beatriz Betancort (EAL), Mrs Claire Henwood (EAL), Mrs Jennifer Whale (Finance Office), Miss Anjuma Lasker (Sixth Form Progress Lead) and Miss Corinne Harris (KS3 Progress Lead). We wish our new colleagues success in their new roles.

As you know, we welcomed Lea Valley into the Trust in October 2019 and in December, we made a full planning application to the Borough of Enfield Council, to build Salmon’s Brook Free School. This new school is scheduled to open in 2021.

In order to support the growth of the Trust, we have appointed Mr Paul Miller to be Head of School. Mr Miller is well known to the school community as Deputy Head and also as Acting Head of Primary when Mrs Franciosa was on maternity leave. He is therefore well placed to manage the school when I am engaged in work with both Lea Valley and Salmon’s Brook. We are actively recruiting for a Deputy Headteacher and we will inform you of that appointment in due course.

Wishing you well for the term.

Yours sincerely

Dr S M Tranter Executive Headteacher

Happy New Year and welcome to IAG News 2020. Throughout this year there will be more information emerging that is accessible for all students throughout Edmonton County School. This will be in line with the Gatsby Benchmark, a framework that enables Careers Departments to deliver programmes to guide students on their journey throughout School, to Further/Higher Education and beyond.

Parental Guidance - Guide for Parents and Carers New from the Careers Writers Association, it is a known fact that parents worry about supporting their sons and daughters as they explore careers options and start to make career decisions. The Careers Writers Association has responded with their latest publication Career journeys for Young People: A Starter Guide for parents and carers one of the few, if not the only, careers guide entirely for parents. As well as the usual topics – GCSE options, A levels and alternatives, HE and other post 18 choices, Work Experience - the Guide covers making the most of life’s opportunities, career myth-busting and common career misconceptions, a philosophy for careers and what happens if it all goes wrong? If this is of interest to you, further information can be found on parentalguidance.org.uk and also available to buy on Amazon in paperback and for Kindle.

What Do Young People Think About The Future? Your voice is an international survey that asks 14-18 year olds about issues that is most important to them. It also looks at their career aspirations and concerns for the future. This online survey comprises mainly of tick boxes and three questions where students can provide written answers. In addition, they can also indicate if they want to record a short video or write a letter. This give the chance to highlight issues that matter and to get their voices heard on an international platform. To take part in the survey please click here alternatively, you can access this at: educationandemployer.org/your- voice Choose Your Own Path. Carve Out A Dream Start To Your Career

M&S is reinventing one of the world’s fastest moving industries. We’re transforming retail at an incredible rate and we’re offering you the opportunity to do the same, right out of school.

Our apprentices are vital to our strategy to digitalise the business, explore evolutionary customer insights and bring innovative new products to market. And in return they’re put on track to becoming a future leader at one of the UK’s best loved brands.

This year, you can join them and choose your own path by applying to one of two very different apprenticeships

 Retail Management – Gives you more exposure to customers. Teaches you how to run entire stores like an expert.

 Buying and Merchandising – A more commercial view of the market. Shows you how to source products and make profit.

The top-class training and support on our programmes will future-proof your career, whichever you choose. However, if you really want to grab our attention, you need to not only have the skills to think up new ideas, but the vision to show us how they can be done. The future needs doers. Can you do it?

To explore if this is for you and apply for an apprenticeship, go to targetcareers.co.uk or careers.marksandspencer.com/apprenticeship

Miss L Charlton - IAG Coordinator Thank you to everyone in the school who contributed to the Foodbank collection. Well done to the Sixth Form students who helped with collection and especially to 12D who started off the idea.

All the food has been delivered to the Foodbank and they are very grateful for our contribution.

We also collected £110 at the Christmas Carol concert which was donated for the Foodbank and a cheque will be delivered to them in the near future.

Thank you to everyone for their contributions and support.
