16 LC 39 1175 Senate Resolution 956 By: Senator Gooch of the 51st A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the Sautee and Nacoochee Valley Historic Districts and dedicating three roads 2 in their honor; and for other purposes. 3 WHEREAS, the Nacoochee Valley was the point of intersection of two major trails used by 4 early Native Americans, where a settlement was formed called Little Chota; and 5 WHEREAS, the Unicoi Trail passed through the Valley across Unicoi Gap going to 6 Hiawassee, North Carolina, East Tennessee, and then Kentucky, and the Rabun Trail began 7 with Coosa to Tugaloo River, Sautee Creek, and Bean Creek and then entered the Valley, 8 exiting at Dukes Creek to Dahlonega then Northeast Alabama; and 9 WHEREAS, the Sautee Valley, adjacent to the Nacoochee Valley, has its center point at 10 Highway 255 and Lynch Mountain Road; and 11 WHEREAS, a toll road was constructed by early settlers on the Unicoi Trail through the 12 Cherokee Nation and was called the Unicoi Turnpike; and 13 WHEREAS, gold was first discovered in 1828 in the Valley, then a part of Habersham 14 County, and in 1857, White County was cut out of Habersham; gold mining companies were 15 given permission by the Georgia Legislature in 1858 to put in hydraulic mining techniques 16 in the Valley; and 17 WHEREAS, Governor Hardman acquired the Nichols-Hunnicutt Hardman Estate with a 18 home and the Cherokee Native American Burial Mound in the Nacoochee Valley in 1903, 19 which is still one of the most photographed sites in Georgia; and 20 WHEREAS, massive timber companies operated in the Valley in the early 20th century, and 21 in the 1920s, the Smithsonian Museum excavated the Nacoochee Mound in the Valley and 22 found Cherokee Native American artifacts; and S. -

HOUSEHOLDS AND CHANGING USE OF SPACE AT THE TRANSITIONAL EARLY MISSISSIPPIAN AUSTIN SITE A Thesis presented in partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree of Masters of Arts in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology University of Mississippi by BENJAMIN GARRETT DAVIS May 2019 ABSTRACT The Austin Site (22TU549) is a village site located in Tunica County, Mississippi dating to approximately A.D. 1150-1350, along the transition from the Terminal Late Woodland to the Mississippian period. While Elizabeth Hunt’s (2017) masters thesis concluded that the ceramics at Austin emphasized a Late Woodland persistence, the architecture and use of space at the site had yet to be analyzed. This study examines this architecture and use of space over time at Austin to determine if they display evidence of increasing institutionalized inequality. This included creating a map of Austin based on John Connaway’s original excavation notes, and then analyzing this map within the temporal context of the upper Yazoo Basin. -

Georgia January. 1970 ADDENDUM: RADIOCARBON DATES FROll POTTS I TRACT Two samples of charcoal from Potts I Tract have been tested for Carbon-14 content by the Geochronology Laboratory. University of Georgia. Results of these tests were not received in tiJne for inclusion in the body of the present report. Date UGA-55 Small fragments of charcoal scattered throughout the fill of Feature 133. a large Hoodstock pit in 1022 !. 40 Excavation Unit A. A. D. 928 UGA-56 Charred timber laying on the floor of Structure ill benea th a thick layer of fired wall daub. This timber was undoubtedly derived from either roof 286 !. 45 or walls "hen the building burned and collapsed. A.D. 1664 UGA-55 dates the earlier component at the site and is consistent with the expected time range of Woodstock CUlture. UGA-56 dates the Barnett component. It is a little later than anticipated. but not at all un reasonable. No Furopean objects. with the possible exception of a small fragment of copper from Structure 1A. were associated with the Barnett component. i PRr.rACr. INTRODUCTION Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Implementation Plans are platforms for evaluating and tracking water quality protection and restoration. These plans have been designed to accommodate continual updates and revisions as new conditions and information warrant. In addition, field verification of watershed characteristics and listing data has been built into the preparation of the plans. The overall goal of the plans is to define a set of actions that will help achieve water quality standards in the state of Georgia. This implementation plan addresses the general characterist ics of the watershed, the sources of pollution, stakeholder s and public involvement, and education/o utreach activities. In addition, the plan describes regulatory and voluntary practices/control actions (management measures) to reduce pollutants, milestone schedules to show the development of the managemen t measures (measurable milestones), and a monitoring plan to determine the efficiency of the management measures. Rule 391-3-6-.03. Water Use Classifications and Water Quality Standards
Presented below are water quality standards that are in effect for Clean Water Act purposes. EPA is posting these standards as a convenience to users and has made a reasonable effort to assure their accuracy. Additionally, EPA has made a reasonable effort to identify parts of the standards that are not approved, disapproved, or are otherwise not in effect for Clean Water Act purposes. Rule 391-3-6-.03. Water Use Classifications and Water Quality Standards ( 1) Purpose. The establishment of water quality standards. (2) W ate r Quality Enhancement: (a) The purposes and intent of the State in establishing Water Quality Standards are to provide enhancement of water quality and prevention of pollution; to protect the public health or welfare in accordance with the public interest for drinking water supplies, conservation of fish, wildlife and other beneficial aquatic life, and agricultural, industrial, recreational, and other reasonable and necessary uses and to maintain and improve the biological integrity of the waters of the State. ( b) The following paragraphs describe the three tiers of the State's waters. (i) Tier 1 - Existing instream water uses and the level of water quality necessary to protect the existing uses shall be maintained and protected. (ii) Tier 2 - Where the quality of the waters exceed levels necessary to support propagation of fish, shellfish, and wildlife and recreation in and on the water, that quality shall be maintained and protected unless the division finds, after full satisfaction of the intergovernmental coordination and public participation provisions of the division's continuing planning process, that allowing lower water quality is necessary to accommodate important economic or social development in the area in which the waters are located. -
