We see ourselves as part of a story of the grace of God, made manifest in Cornwall, which stretches back many hundreds of years, possibly to the very earliest days of the ChrisNan faith. It’s a story that calls us on into the future too, in loving mission, ministry and service. As we follow ‘The Saints Way’ we will be deeply commi+ed to Christ and to all that he calls us to be and to do; and to Cornwall, this very special place with its own parNcular culture, history and idenNty. We can only follow that Way faithfully if we see it as our corporate calling, as the body of Christ. So we encourage ministers of the gospel to come and join us here who are commi+ed to seng the whole people of God free in their God-given calling, to make Christ known here in Cornwall, today.

FORDand K. G. McWHIRTER Genetics Laboratory, Deportment of Zoology, Oxford Receivedi.Xi.58 1. DEVELOPMENTS IN THE AREA OF THE SOUTH ENGLISH STABILISATION INthe years 5950-52 Dowdeswell and Ford (5952, 1953)foundthat throughout a large part of Southern England the females of Maniola jurtina, the Meadow Brown Butterfly, were so stabilised that all popu- lations showed a characteristic spot-distribution with a large mode at o spots. The area in question stretched from the east coast (Ipswich), westwards to the Devon-Cornwall border, where there occurred a change within some twelve miles to another stabilisation in which the female spot-distribution is bimodal with a large mode at o spots and a lesser mode at 2 spots (defined as the East Cornish stabilisation). In their 5953 paper, however, they noted that at Tiverton ()inthe extreme west of the South English stabilisation area, the female distri- bution showed a reduction of the steepness of the mode at o spots. The sample obtained at Taunton, Somerset, in 5952, had a similar tendency. With the small number of samples then available, however, these slight divergences did not much disturb the extreme and remark- able homogeneity of South English populations up to the region of the Cornish border. By 5955 two other stabilisation areas, apart from those of South England and East Cornwall had been discovered, one in Penwith (in west Cornwall) and the other in the large islands of the Scilly group.

Study 4978 Cornwall OnLine Census Project, 1891 This document was supplied by the depositor and has been modified by AHDS History Introduction THIS STUDY contains our [Cornwall Online Census Project] transcript of the 1891 census returns for Cornwall. It has been transcribed, checked and validated by the volunteers of the Cornwall Online Census Project, the Cornish arm of the Free Census project. The original records are held by The National Archives and this transcription is done with their permission. Image copies of the original returns can be viewed on film, fiche or CDROM from commercial suppliers and at many research facilities around the world. This study contains a full transcription of the 1891 census returns for Cornwall—a snapshot of the people and places of Cornwall on the night of April 5th, 1891. The file names are the PRO piece number code (without punctuation). About UK Census Returns About Free Census (FreeCEN) was started early in 2000 with a pilot project for the 1891 census returns for Devon. The aim of Free Census is to transcribe all the UK 19th century census returns. It is part of FreeUKGEN and is a sister project to FreeBMD and FreeREG. The intention is that all three of the UK primary sources for the family historian will be online and “free to view.” Six months after the Devon project started, the Cornwall 1891 commenced. Most English and Welsh counties are now covered for the 1891, with the Scottish projects concentrating on the 1841. There are several English 1861 projects, using commercially produced discs and two English 1841 projects, including Cornwall.
