Jessica Lange Regis Dialogue with Molly Haskell, 1997 Bruce Jenkins: Let me say that these dialogues have for the better part of this decade focused on that part of cinema devoted to narrative or dramatic filmmaking, and we've had evenings with actors, directors, cinematographers, and I would say really especially with those performers that we identify with the cutting edge of narrative filmmaking. In describing tonight's guest, Molly Haskell spoke of a creative artist who not only did a sizeable number of important projects but more importantly, did the projects that she herself wanted to see made. The same I think can be said about Molly Haskell. She began in the 1960s working in New York for the French Film Office at that point where the French New Wave needed a promoter and a writer and a translator. She eventually wrote the landmark book From Reverence to Rape on women in cinema from 1973 and republished in 1987, and did sizable stints as the film reviewer for Vogue magazine, The Village Voice, New York magazine, New York Observer, and more recently, for On the Issues. Her most recent book, Holding My Own in No Man's Land, contains her last two decades' worth of writing. I'm please to say it's in the Walker bookstore, as well. Our other guest tonight needs no introduction here in the Twin Cities nor in Cloquet, Minnesota, nor would I say anyplace in the world that motion pictures are watched and cherished. She's an internationally recognized star, but she's really a unique star.

Tootsie, It's Ironical That He's Barely Recognisable
DUSTIN H FFMAN IS QUITE AGALIN playing a fun-to- e watch role worthy of an Oscar. onsidering that Dustin Hoffman has Cbeen a leading film actor for some sixteen years, it's surprising that he's been on our front cover only once before. Even then it was only in a small way. And now that we're finally giving him the VIP treatment to celebrate the release of his new film Tootsie, it's ironical that he's barely recognisable. You could almost call him our "cover girl". Yes, under the wig and make up and female attire lurks the very mascu line Mr Hoffman. So what's he doing in drag? A couple of incidents in the film lead up to that bold move. He plays a New York actor Michael Dorsey who, being unemployed, has turned to coaching for a living. After preparing his girlfriend Sandy (Teri Garr) for an audition for a tv soap opera, he is livid to learn that she has been rejected without even being asked to read. Hoping to help her by aski~ to see a star of the show whom he know~ Left: Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman) has Impressed Julie (Jessica Lange) as a woman but she thinks less of him out of drag. ‘LOVE’S EVERLASTING COURAGE’ CAST BIOS CHERYL LADD (Irene) – Possessing an effervescent personality and embodying the beauty, grace, class and charm of old Hollywood, its no wonder Cheryl Ladd remains one of Tinseltown’s favorite actresses. Since her big break as one of the beloved “Charlie’s Angels,” Ladd’s career has traversed television, film and Broadway, and she is still very much a triple- threat. On primetime, Ladd most recently appeared on the CBS hit show “CSI: Miami.” The actress played a socialite involved with younger men who were murdered by her jealous husband. Prior to that, Ladd had a recurring role on the NBC drama “Las Vegas” playing Jillian Deline, the loving wife of James Caan and mother to vixen Molly Sims. Born and raised in Huron, South Dakota, Ladd spent her childhood focused on singing, dancing and acting. While in high school, Ladd sang with a local group called "The Music Shop," which brought her to Los Angeles after graduation. In just a short time, Ladd got her first break as the singing voice of Melody on the cartoon series, "Josie and the Pussycats." Armed with talent and perseverance, Ladd quickly added a string of significant credits to her resume, including the comedy/variety series, "The Ken Berry WOW Show," with Steve Martin and Teri Garr. Then, Ladd was cast in the role of Kris Munroe on "Charlie's Angels" and was instantly catapulted into stardom, spending four years on the show. While still on the series, she developed and starred in the ABC telefilm, “When She Was Bad," which dealt with the harsh realities of child abuse.
