PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN President’s Message – January 2020 Today in 1734, Manuel Antonio de Ocio y Ocampo of the secular clergy is appointed as the 8th Bishop of Cebu. Also, today in 1852, a decree of the Bishop establishes Moalboal as a parish, separating it from Badian. Lastly, today in 1877, Nueva Caceres, Oslob, Cebu, is erected as a parish. Welcome everyone to Cebu Port Centre Rotary Club! First of all, it is our pleasure of welcoming our Rotarian visitors - Rotary Club of Yokohama Minami! Head of the contingent is Mr. Toshinori Maki – the President Elect! This item will be discussed more in a little while. I would like also to extend my heartfelt appreciation to those who attended our last Rotary Regular meeting. Last Monday, where we were fortunately graced by our District Governor Philip Tan and other high-ranking District Officers (District Secretary Barbette Lominoque and District Rotary Foundation Committee or DRFC Chair Lilu Aliño). The visit of our District dignitaries was for the purpose of extending personal appreciation to PP Marcy Koike for continuing support to The Rotary Foundation. Rotary Club of Yokohama Minami (District 2590) Through the efforts of PP Marcy Koike, we have Rotarian Japanese visitors who will be in Cebu from January 20 to 21, 2020. Our guests are from Rotary Club of Yokohama Minami (District 2590), and they are as follows: Mr. Toshinori Maki (President-Elect), Mr. Toru Mizutani (International Service Director), Mr. Yuichirou Ito (Voluntary Social Service Director). As requested by RC Yokohama Minami, they would like to visit our “voluntary social service” projects like Tejero Elementary School, Water Drilling projects at Naga City and Minglanilla on the 21st of January - Tuesday. To those who are available, please join us in supporting our Japanese Rotarian guests in visiting our project sites tomorrow – Tuesday. Search for Cebu City Top 10 Outstanding Traffic Enforcers Our Club, with the support of Cebu Insurers Club Inc. (CICI), launches last January 16, 2020 (Thursday) at 2:00 P.M. the Search for Top Ten (10) Outstanding Traffic Enforcers of Cebu City. It was participated by no less than our Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella and his Cebu City Hall Administrator, Cebu City Traffic Office (CCTO) personnel and Cebu mediamen. CCTO has long been envisaging of recognizing the efforts of its traffic enforcement personnel. For more than 25 years, these traffic enforcers have shown their commitment and dedication to their assigned tasks. CCTO felt very fortunate for being chosen this year as recipient for this RCCPC project. PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN With five (5) conceptualized criteria for the selection of Outstanding Enforcers (Attendance, Number of Quality Apprehensions, Number of Complaints Related to Work, Relationship between Fellow Enforcers and Co-employees, and Relationship with Client), this project encourages deeper considerations within CCTO to have more training among their enforcers in order to prevent and mediate highway conflicts especially road rage, which already recorded around 66% of traffic fatalities in our country. Formal Awarding Ceremony is scheduled this April 2020, which final venue and date still have to be determined by RCCPC, CICI and CCTO. District Conference 2020 As reiterated during our last week’s Rotary meeting, our District Conference (DisCon) 2020 is held this March 5 – 7, 2020 at Cebu Grand Convention Center, Banilad, Cebu City. To our RCCPC colleagues, spouses and Rotaractors: please let us participate and join our Cebuano District Governor in welcoming delegates from our District 3860. We encourage each one to start your registration process while the cost is still low. Promo registration cost (with deadline until January 31, 2020) is Php4,500.00 for Rotarian (Php3,000.00 for Spouse and Rotaractor). After January 31, cost is raised to regular rate at Php6,000.00. Club listing is at Php3,500.00 per club. For “DISCON 2020 Registration How-To”, please approach any of our Club’s Officers and/or Board. As our Club is tasked to host the Golf and Bowling tournaments on March 4, 2020, it was already announced from our last meeting that IPP Rodien Paca is the Chairman for the Golf Tournament and PP Sam Tiu (to be assisted by Rot. Roland Bantilan) is the Chairman for the Bowling Tournament. For the Golf Tournament (“Paul Harris Cup”), it will be held at Cebu Country Club with System 36 format @ White Tee. Registration is Php4,000 per player, which cost inclusive of shared cart, green fees, giveaways, dinner and raffles. Per IPP Rodien – the Committee Chairman, they are still open for additional sponsors (Gold or Minor). For the Bowling Tournament, there will be one team for Visayas and another team for Mindanao competing each other. Each team is composed of fifteen (15) players but only ten (10) to count. So, this is a showdown between Visayas against Mindanao Rotarian bowlers. The Bowling Committee will give more updates soon on the guidelines and other mechanics of the tournament. PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN Meeting Make-Up Another appeal to our Club members who are unable to attend regular Rotary meeting. There is now a cooler way of having Make-up, which already tested by some of us - doing it online thru Rotary E-Club of the West –website address at: https://www.rotaryeclubwest.org/make-up/.
