Central Methodist Looks To Defend Their Title in 2019

IRVINE, Calif. – The 61st Annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Men’s Soccer National Championship returns to the West Coast once again as the Orange County Great Park Soccer Stadium plays host to the 2019 tournament. The Golden State Athletic Conference is the official host as the City of Irvine welcomes the final 16 teams for the next week.

Teams will play Round of 16 games on Monday and Tuesday with quarterfinal play taking place on Wednesday. The national semifinals will take place Friday evening and the National Championship is slotted for a 6 p.m. PST start on ESPN3 and NAIANetwork.org.

Six teams advanced to the final site holding previous national titles. Central Methodist took home the title in 2018, winning in penalty kicks on the OC Great Park field over Missouri Valley last year. Hastings is unseeded this season, but won the title in 2017 and 2010. Ninth-seeded Rio Grande has two national titles in program history, with the most recent coming in 2015. Westmont has the longest stretch without a title, last winning in 1972. Lindsey Wilson has the most national titles in the field with nine with the most recent coming in 2011. Mobile won their lone title in 2002.

• The top two teams in the nation in scoring, Central Methodist and Oklahoma Wesleyan will be playing in Irvine. On the other side, the top three teams in the nation in goals allowed are still alive. Columbia and William Carey have only allowed 8 goals all year, while Madonna has given up just 11.

• This year’s tournament could come down to which team can find the back of the net as ten of the top eleven goalkeepers in the nation will be between the posts at the OC Great Park.

• Only one team in this year’s final site field, UC Merced, is making their first NAIA men’s soccer postseason appearance.

• Six of the eight quarterfinalists from last year and all four semifinalist teams return to Irvine. All four quarterfinal games and both semifinal games were one goal affairs.

The NAIA Network – the association’s official video streaming home – will broadcast all 15 matches live at the 2019 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship. The video platform, powered by Stretch Internet, allows users access to live video, statistics, and social interaction on a number of devices, including mobile. For more information and the pre-register, click here. The final game will be simulcast on ESPN3 as well.

Orange County Great Park Soccer Stadium BACK

The Orange County Great Park, on a section of the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, continues its evolution across approximately 1,300 acres as it attracts visitors to its ongoing amenities. The City of Irvine-owned Great Park is an arts and sports recreational hub. Currently under development are 688 acres of parkland. Within that acreage is the development of a 194-acre Sports Park. TO THE Already setting new standards as one of the most modern metropolitan parks in the world, the carefully designed Orange County Great Park at once pays homage to the military history of this legendary air base while creating exceptional experiences for a new generation. GAME These are just some of the activities and attractions available at Orange County Great Park. The Visitor Center has details and can provide directions on these and additional happenings and amenities:

Great Park Balloon – Enjoy a bird’s-eye view — spanning 40 miles on a clear day — as you soar 400 feet above the surrounding landscape on this tethered balloon ride.

Great Park Carousel – The majestic Fashion Island carousel now resides in Orange County Great Park for kids of all ages.

Walkable Historical Timeline – A concrete taxiway that was part of the original El Toro Marine Corps Air Station which provides an opportunity to encounter some of the major defining events and people in history.

Hangar 224 – A historic World War II hangar, which has been renovated and is now an event venue. The body is made for work, play and Palm Court Arts Complex - Featuring a shaded outdoor performance plaza enhanced by 54 Canary Islands date palms, a permanent public art installation, and an artist-in-residence program. adventure. When pain gets in the way, let the specialists at Hoag Orthopedic Farm + Food Lab - A hands-on gardening experience with themed planters featuring fruits, flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Institute help get you back to being you. Orange County Great Park also offers many classes, programs, and seasonal activities for all ages and is about to introduce a brand-new outdoor live music venue, which will open adjacent to the park. Continued development plans include a 188-acre golf course with practice facility and clubhouse, a 71-acre agricultural component, a 40-acre Bosque area, and a 36-acre Upper Bee Canyon area. Perhaps most exciting will be the Great Park Ice and Sports Complex — a 270,000 square-foot ice facility geared for hockey and ice skating — due to open in 2019.
