  • Collio Rosso Cjarandon DOC
Collio Rosso Cjarandon DOC Ronco dei Tassi is a family-owned and run estate, founded in 1989 when Fabio Coser and his wife Daniela bought their first 9 hectares (22 acres) in Collio Goriziano, in the township of Cormons in Friuli. The estate now extends 30 hectares (75 acres) of which 18 (45 acres) are under vine, all located in a beautiful natural park, which is protected by the region of Friuli. Ronco dei Tassi takes its name from the way the vineyard are set up: ronchi in Italian means terracing. They are set up this way so the vines get the most sun possible. While tassi, means badger in Italian, which reminds us of the small groups of badgers that visit the property during harvest to sample the ripe and juicy grapes. The winemaking team believes that great wines are made in the vineyard and they thus spend a lot of time up close and personal with the vines with the aim of cultivating perfect and healthy grapes to be transformed, using the least invasive and most natural ways possible, preserving the innate characteristics of the grapes, the terroir and of course, the vintage. A very special red only released in excellent vintages. A Bordeaux bland of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from a very small vineyard. The wines ages in a mix of new and used barrique for thirty months and then in bottle for twenty-four months. Black cherry, eucalyptus and a long finish. Wine exported to: Japan, Canada, Australia Most recent awards Winemaking and Aging Grape Varieties: 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon , 10% Cabernet Franc Fermentation

  • In Friuli, a Newly Proposed DOCG with Roots in Recent History
FORBES.COM Data 11-07-2019 Pagina Foglio 1 / 5 7 views | Jul 11, 2019, 11:26am In Friuli, A Newly Proposed DOCG With Roots In Recent History Susan H. Gordon Contributor Dining & Drinking The what, where, when of wine, with special attention paid to Italy. A view of Oslavia's hills and ponca soils, with the Ribolla Gialla vineyards of local estate winery Primosic PRIMOSIC The move is both a step forward and a return to generations past. Late last year, six winemakers from the Friulian village of Oslavia, today a slip of land at Italy's border with Slovenia and which for most of the 500 years before the 20th century began had been part of east-west crossroads under Austrian rule, proposed a new DOCG for their village’s Ribolla Gialla wines. The six-member group is the Associazione Produttori Ribolla di Oslavia: Fiegl, Il Carpino, La Castellada, Promosic, Princic, Radikon. Of Oslavia’s seven producers, Josko Gravner is missing. Biotype to Slovenia’s Rebula and unrelated to Greece’s Robola, Ribolla Gialla (the color mention is important: 003368 Ribolla Verde which is written about invariably as both clone and unrelated grape is considered lesser either way) has been grown in the hills of the Gorizia province, of which Oslavia is a frazione and home to a few hundred people, for centuries. White-wine grapes vinified on their skins are traditional to both sides of the national border here, a small area that is the reference point for what outside markets call orange wine.

  • Pinot Grigio 2011 Terroir and Environmental Conditions
PINOT GRIGIO 2011 DENOMINATION: Venezia Giulia IGT GENERAL INFORMATION: Pinot Grigio Attems, which reaches the peak of its expressiveness in the vineyards located in the area between the Collio and the alluvial area of the Isonzo. The wine is characterised by a copper-tinged straw yellow. Its bouquet is marked by a impressive fruitiness, and the palate demonstrates all of the amazing qualities of the Collio: superb weight and viscosity, mineral-edged, savoury, tangy, and lively. VINTAGE REPORT The 2011 growing season started off quite normally in the spring, and May and June brought their expected and welcome rains, ensuring even development of the fruiting shoots, and flowering later proceeded under ideal weather conditions. Fruit set and berry growth were likewise normal, and the clusters were sound and healthy, again because of dry conditions. The season continued quite dry, speeding up the ripening process of the grapes, which displayed high concentrations of aromatic and polyphenolic compounds. Harvest thus began earlier than usual, around mid-August, and continued with no problems. We saw immediately that the resultant wines would be well structured, with rich bouquets, and in fact the musts were textbook-perfect and the fermentation fragrances were outstanding. The fermentations, all kept at low temperatures, carried through very well. Maturation on the lees was not very lengthy, since by December the wines were already rounded and smooth. Now fresh off the bottling line, the wines are remarkably expressive, displaying intense aromas and distinctive varietal characteristics, cleanly delineated and firmly structured. TERROIR AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ESTATE AND VINEYARD LOCATION: The vineyards are located in the Collio Goriziano area.

The vineyard is very small, just 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres) and is 60 years old. The variety is extremely deep-rooted, documented in the Istria area in the 1300s, but grown even in ancient Greece. Ample fruity aromas on an intense and layered nose; well balanced on the palate, silky in texture yet sustained by zesty acidity and excellent structure.

  • TENUTA BORGO CONVENTI a Legacy of Great Passion for Wine
FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA A crossroads of history, people and traditions Friuli Venezia Giulia has a wine growing tradition that dates back to the Roman Empire. The geographically strategic position of the region made it the only north-eastern access to the peninsula, qualifying it as the crucial passage connecting Italy and the regions beyond the Alps. These were the reasons that allured the many transiting through the region, who also soon understood how the fortunate combination of a particular climate and the unique characteristics of the soil would be perfect for wine growing. The geography of Friuli Venezia Giulia today is the result of the signifcant geological upheavals that occurred over the course of millions of years; indeed, the region originated following the emergence of the sea foor shaped by millennia of tides and currents, which contributed to the formation of the hills that make up the Collio Goriziano, or simply Collio. The soil contains all the minerals that derive from that ancient sea and still today bestow the wines with a very distinctive character. The Romans, skilful farmers as they were, immediately realized that this region could offer wines of excellent quality, and invested enormous resources to establish viticulture and wine making structures. Then, along the centuries, some varieties were imported from France and Germany and the wine growing techniques were refned. At this point viticulture had acquired such importance as to have architects carefully craft the hill slopes to better intercept the sunlight, which resulted in the typical terraces which still today characterise the landscape. TENUTA BORGO CONVENTI A legacy of great passion for wine Established in 1975, in Farra d’Isonzo in the heart of the province of Gorizia, Borgo Conventi owes its name to the monasteries that thrived in this locality between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries; a locality that was particularly suitable for wine growing.

Good growing conditions for white grape varieties, a penchant for experimentation, and talented winemakers combine to put this out-of-the-way area on the wine map. Two of the top producers in Collio are the Marco Felluga winery and Russiz Superiore, both of which are now under the leadership of winemaker Roberto Felluga (and both of which are imported by Dalla Terra). The Felluga family traces its wine industry lineage to the late 1800s, when Roberto Felluga's great-great-grandfather Michele started a business buying and selling wines in Istria (then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire). Michele's son Marco added winemaking to the business, growing grapes and making some wine on the family farm just south of Trieste in what is now southwestern Slovenia. After World War I, Marco's son Giovanni continued the family wine trade, selling Istrian wine in Trieste and in Grado in southern Friuli.
