Our local retailers support our communi- ty all year. Band boosters, touchdown clubs and any number of other community pro- jects are financed by those here at home. In order to have the ability to give and give again, they need our support now. The Christmas season is one of the busiest retail shopping events of the year. Yes there is graduation and Easter and birth- days, but none compare to the sharing of joy through a gift now. Just think of the sales tax that stays locally as well. That is like giving yourself a Christmas present each time you shop. With Laurens County being the retail shopping center of east Central Georgia, over a third of the sales tax generated here actually comes from other counties. “What an incredible weekend!” said a member of Boy Scout Troop 65 has adventurousScouts of America weekend Troop 65 of Dublin First United Methodist Church about its final camping trip for 2015 on Dec. 11-13. The troop camped at Asst. Scoutmaster Wendell Smith’s farm for a very eventful weekend. Friday night the troop coon-hunted with Mr. Wendell’s dogs on Turkey Creek. They finished about midnight and turned in to rest for a very busy Saturday. Saturday morning they traveled to Milledgeville to par- ticipate in the Wreaths Across America campaign by plac- ing Christmas Wreaths on more than 2,000 graves at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery. That evening they went to Macon to attend a Macon Mayhem hockey game, where two of the scouts presented colors for the National Anthem. For many of them, it was their first time ever attending a hockey game. It was very exciting and a lot rougher sport than many of them had imagined. “Those guys are some tough customers!” said a scout. “We were allowed to ice skate for about an hour and a half after the game. We really enjoyed that! Many of us were quite wobbly, but we did it anyway and had a great time.” “Now it’s Christmas Break and then on to another won- derful year of adventures in 2016.”
