This rock musical premieres on Friday, September 28, and runs through Sunday, October 7, 2012, at DePaul’s historic Merle Reskin Theatre. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Previews are on September 26 and 27, at 7:30 PM. 1890s Germany. Winner of eight Tony Awards, this rock musical adaptation proves that Wedekind’s coming-of-age tragedy still has the power to shock. Spring Awakening pits the radiance of youth against the apathy of adulthood with a powerful score by Duncan Sheik. Due to adult situations and content, parental supervision is recommended for ages 17 and younger. Tickets are $15. Subscriptions and group rates (6 or more people) are available at (312)-922-0999. Four world premiere plays and two new adaptations seen first by Chicago audiences were among those receiving Jeff nominations by the Jeff Awards Committee. There are 179 nominations in 35 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions that opened between August 1, 2013 and July 31, 2014. In the Large Theatre category, Goodman Theatre's "Brigadoon" and Drury Lane Production's "LES MISERABLES" each garnered nine nominations. Goodman's "Brigadoon" was nominated for Production Musical-Large, Director and Choreographer Rachel Rockwell as well as acting and design awards. "LES MISERABLES" from Drury Lane Productions also received nine nominations, including Production Musical-Large and Director Rachel Rockwell. OCTOBER 2013 SMOKEFALL BY NOAH HAIDLE DIRECTED BY ANNE KAUFFMAN ® 1 Imagining Smokefall: A Conversation with Noah Haidle By Tanya Palmer Noah Haidle’s latest play, Smokefall, examines life’s big questions through the prism of an ordinary Midwestern family. Inspired in equal parts by Thornton Wilder’s simple evocative humanity, Samuel Beckett’s bleak poetry and Haidle’s own wild theatrical imagination, it begins on an average morning as the family is getting ready for their day, and then telescopes in—and out—to look at both the minutia of daily life and the broader implications of choices made for the individual, the family and the community. Funny and painful, the play was first developed as part of the Goodman’s New Stages festival, and was subsequently featured in the prestigious Pacific Playwrights Festival at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, California, where it was produced this spring in a co-production with Goodman Theatre helmed by award-winning New York–based director Anne Kauffman. In a recent conversation with Tanya Palmer, the Goodman’s director of new play development, Haidle—whose work was last seen at the Goodman in 2006’s Vigils—spoke about the genesis of the play and where it fits into the trajectory of his own Noah Haidle burgeoning career as a playwright and screenwriter. Tanya Palmer: Can you talk a little bit about the origin and evolution of Smokefall? Noah Haidle: The director of Smokefall, Anne Kauffman, says the big question of this play is: is life worth living? Smokefall is an incredibly personal play and while I don’t feel comfortable having people understand the exact life circumstances, my circumstances, that inspired me to write a play about the meaning of existence, I can talk about it as a piece of writing.

NOVEMBER 9, 2020 – CHICAGO – In its 52nd annual celebration of theater excellence, the Jeff Awards has recognized 39 recipients for the 2020 awards, selected from among 142 theater artist nominees across 30 artistic and technical categories. Award-winning Chicago actor, singer and teaching artist Michelle Lauto hosted the online awards announcement program and tribute to the theater community that featured work of many of the nominated productions and more than a dozen local theater artists as presenters.
