No More CHAPT Sting ER ONE eople try to avoid fire, except when the fire is the Chicago PFire soccer team. For more than 100 years, people have played soccer in Chicago. In the 1880s, new arrivals from England played the game. They formed leagues. Top companies such as the railroad carmaker Pullman Car Company sponsored them. In 1893, at the World’s Columbian Exhibition in Chicago, visitors to the fair were introduced to soccer in an event called a “world championship.” Running from May to October, it welcomed millions of people. Then in the early 1900s, immigrants from Poland and other European countries brought their love of the sport to the city. Many played the game in their working-class neighborhoods. The sport proved so popular among ethnic immigrant groups that many formed leagues. One such group was the National Soccer League of Chicago. This semiprofessional league formed in 1920 after two leagues merged. It still exists today. C HAPTER ONE From 1974 to 1988, Chicago had a professional soccer team called the Sting. The Chicago Sting played in the North American Soccer League (NASL). In 1981 and 1984, the team won the Soccer Bowl. “We were the kings in town in 1981,” Sting forward Pato Margetic said. “It was amazing, because everywhere you went, people would grab you and ask you for autographs and tell you how great the team was and wishing us luck. The whole year was like that. It was unbelievable.” Chapter One Despite the championships, not enough people came to the games. The Sting went broke. Their last game was in 1988. The NASL also disappeared. It operated from 1968 to 1984. But Major League Soccer (MLS) picked up where it left off. In 1997 Chicago got its own Major League Soccer team, the Chicago Fire. The team is named after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The fire burned more than 2,000 acres of the city. Three hundred people died. More than 100,000 lost their homes. Yugoslavia, State Serbia), Player, Serbian SC Milwaukee Currently resides in Altadena, CA. Milorad was born in Serbia, in 1925. He began his successful playing career as a goalkeeper after World War II in Germany from 1946 to 1950. He continued that success after coming to Milwaukee as a valued member of the Serbian Sport Club and one of the top goalkeepers in Wisconsin's from 1951 to 1958. Milorad led Serbian Sport Club to the state championships in 1953, 1954, 1956, 1957, and 1958, and the Challenge Cup State Championship in 1956, 1957, 1958, and 1959.

    Jim Brown (footballer, born 1950) James Grady Brown (born 11 May 1952) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played as a goalkeeper. During his career, he made over 300 appearances in the Football League and spent four years in the North American Soccer League playing for the Detroit Express, Washington Diplomats and Chicago Sting. He also gained one cap for Scotland in 1975.[4]. During his time in the role, Brown, along with three other members of staff, began keeping records of the club's financial activity under chairman Darren Brown after becoming concerned about his business practices.[12] He later testified in front of a Football League panel against the then chairman and the records were eventually used to help convict Darren Brown of fraud in. BANK* ABSTRACT Major League Soccer has long been criticized for its “Byzantine” roster rules and regu- lations, rivaled only by the Internal Revenue Code in its complexity. Is this criticism fair? By delving into complexity theory and the unique nature of the league, this Article argues that the traditional complaints may not apply in the context of the league’s roster rules. Effectively, critics are applying the standard used to evaluate the legal complexity found in rules such as statutes and regulations when the standard used to evaluate contractual complexity is more appropriate. Major League Soccer’s system of roster rules is the product of a contractual and organizational arrangement among the investor-operators.
