PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It’s with great excitement that I pen my final address as President of this great cricket club. In season 2011/12 we celebrated another outstanding year. Six senior teams in semi finals, five in grand finals and four premierships. Two U17’s and, U15 teams in semi finals and an U13 Premiership. A superb season.

The Annual Report provides me with an opportunity to share with you our achievements, not only this season, but since I became president three seasons ago. It has been a tough journey, keeping in mind we were relegated and were in serious debt when the current executive took the management of the club at the end of the 2008-09 season.

When we took over, our plans were simple. - To provide the club with financial stability and credibility. - To engage the Langwarrin community & business community - To promote our talented youth and provide them with a pathway to play senior cricket - To place ourselves in a position to return to Provincial. - Most importantly, to once again be seen as a powerhouse of the MPCA.

Today, we can all be very, very, proud of what we have been able to achieve. We have realised our goals. - Langwarrin CC will post a profit in excess of $15,000. - Our sponsorship remains strong and there is a commitment for next season already from our major sponsors. - Almost half, 14 of our 33 regular players in the Firsts, Seconds and Third XI were under the age of 20. - We have almost climbed the ultimate mountain, playing in the past two District Grand Finals. - Most importantly, the wider cricket community is once again talking about Langwarrin CC.

This is my opportunity to thank the many great people who have supported the club and me personally this season and over the past three and a half years.

There are two special people in particular who attended our very first meeting as a new committee and were beside me at our last committee meeting a fortnight ago - Daniel Bray and Luke Smith. They are still my biggest supporters today and have done an enormous amount for the club.

Jack Heverin has been a great supporter of me and worker around the club and continues to do what he can, despite the heavy work commitments of his new and exciting career.

Scott Morrow, as well as being a sensational secretary, has also managed the bar this year and works tirelessly for the club. He dots my ‘I’s’ and crosses my ‘T’s’ and has a rare ability to keep my feet firmly planted on the ground. His partner Brooke is also a wonderful support.

To every other person who has served on the committee, worked behind the bar and lent a hand over the past three seasons, a huge thank you.

14th May 2012 Page 9

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2011/2012 Annual Report To Geoff Lester, who has been Chairman of Selectors for the past two years, it’s not an enviable job. Thank you Geoff.

To those who have made a significant difference at training and on game day, especially Rob Prosser, Tim Harper and Mick Hooper, thank you for the time that you give to the club.

For the past two seasons, Roger Brearley has scored for the First XI and done a superb job. His support around the club doesn’t go unnoticed.

Lyn Morrow is the first one at the club every Saturday morning and we simply couldn’t do what we do without her. She is very deserved of her Club Person of the Year Award.

To the teenagers who took ownership of the club this season and will be wonderful leaders of our club for many years to come, especially Matt Davie, Matt Prosser, Mitch Bromley, Zac Pedderson and Lachy Kelly – they all give an enormous amount of their time outside of playing commitments.

Congratulations to Kellie and Steve Brooker for winning Junior Club People of the Year.

On-field, we have been blessed with outstanding support.

I will miss the daily conversations with Gary Rees, discussing all things cricket. I encourage you all to provide the same support you provided me when he becomes president.

Nathan Volpe sacrificed himself for the sake of the club this season and under difficult circumstances, did an outstanding job taking over as coach. With little experience, Nathan held things together and did it sensationally well.

Finally, to Mal Coutts, who shared, supported and drove the club’s vision of rebuilding this club with youth when he took over as coach. The support Mal provided to the club, to the leadership group and the entire playing list after he resigned as coach was nothing short of outstanding. The club thanks you Mal.

To our sponsors, thank you for your outstanding and ongoing support: - Michael Spring and Harcourts Langwarrin - Rob Morrison and Frankston RSL - Jamie Bartling and RAMS Home Loans - Mick Spruhan and Bendigo Bank Carrum Downs - Roz Moran & Langwarrin Township Committee - Greg Talbot and Sportsco Dandenong - and - Karingal Bowling Club

To all the wives, girlfriends and partners of all the boys involved in the club, thank you so much for your support. A special thank you to my wife Katy, who has never once questioned my commitment to the club and constantly encourages me to dedicate the time required to fulfil my role with LCC.

I think we can safely say that the Langwarrin Cricket Club is in good shape. There’s an enormous amount to look forward to. We have had in place a succession plan for the past 12 months and I am proud to say we have a president and executive committee that will be sworn in tonight. Sincerely, I wish them well.

We have appointed a Captain-Coach in Mark Cooper and two assistants in Dwayne Doig & Mal Coutts. Andy Johnson becomes a Vice Captain.

14th May 2012 Page 10

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2011/2012 Annual Report I’m proud of what we have all been able to achieve together over the past three seasons and look forward to watching the club grow and prosper in the years to come.

Thank you everyone and I look forward to spending time with you next season and in the seasons ahead.

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2011/2012 Annual Report COACH’S REPORT

Congratulations to the six senior sides, as well as the four junior sides who represented Langwarrin Cricket Club this season in the finals.

Well done to the Second XI, Fifth XI, Seventh XI, Eighth XI and Under 13s for winning the premierships.

Congratulations to Matt Prosser and David Ross, who took the highest honours in the junior and senior grades.

Congratulations to all the club award winners. Presentation Night was again a fantastic night and highlighted all of the deserved winners.

Two seasons ago, after coming off a consolidation year in 09-10, we were committed as a club to maximise the biggest weapon that we possess – our talented young players. Coach Mal Coutts was determined to give the younger players an opportunity to play as high as they could and the club benefitted across the grades.

When Nathan Volpe took over the reins due to Mal’s work and family commitments, the plan didn’t change. The results spoke for themselves – Matt Prosser playing First XI cricket all season as a 16-year-old, Matt Davie and Mitch Bromley playing Second XI cricket and the likes of Brayden Dodds and Lachlan Kelly being given big responsibilities all season.

Our Third XI became the breeding ground for our next generation – not the lower grades like we have done previously.

The First XI is blessed with talent with the likes of teenagers Andy Johnson, Alex Coad, Jake Prosser and Tay Smith, while Jarryd Amalfi was arguably the greatest improver this season – all under the age of 20.

Over the past three seasons, our goal has been to build a solid foundation for the club to build-on.

With a solid committee, strong financial position and an abundance of talent, there is every reason to suggest we can look forward to a great future.

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2011/2012 Annual Report JUNIOR CO-ORDINATORS’ REPORT

Without the support of the parents and coaches who volunteer their time, Langwarrin Cricket Club would not have a junior program it has.

Sincerely, thank you to all of the coaches and those parents who helped them along the way this season.

Congratulations to the U13 Provincial side on winning the premiership. There are some very talented players in this side who will be big names of the cricket club in years to come.

Our Milo Cricket program was again a big success and thanks to Luke Smith who managed this program. He received some great help from parents and younger players, who attended on a Sunday to give a hand.

Ricky Ramsdale and Jamie Jewiss did wonderful jobs with the Under 11s this season and having such outstanding people and cricketers in charge of our youngest team is sensational.

Matt Prosser and Mitch Bromley showed enormous maturity to coach U13s teams and although it wasn’t easy for them at times, they kept their chin up, worked hard and most importantly, improved every single one of the players in their teams. Michael Spring and Brad Kyle and their team tasted the ultimate, which was a culmination of years of great coaching and guidance.

Andrew Brown was the newest of our coaches and did a magnificent job. He is an outstanding person and did his very best for every player in his team. Steve Brooker took his side to a semi final and his coaching qualities are outstanding. Congratulations to the players in his side representing the club in rep cricket this season, as well as those going to England.

We were fortunate to have two Under 17 teams this season, both of whom made semi finals. They were an outstanding group of young men and ones that the club can really hang their hat on for years to come. Rob Prosser, Shaun McInnes and Zac Pedersen led these sides extremely well and helped enormously the make them feel as though they ARE the next generation of this club.

To the hard working committee at the club, you guys do a sensational job and it amazes me the amount of work that you do each week.

To Kellie and Steve Brooker, congratulations of your Junior Club People of the Year award – it is greatly deserved. Congrats to Matt Prosser for being awarded Junior Club Champion and the Under 17s for being recognised for their efforts and support of the club.

Yours in Cricket, Thank you Andrew Kelly

TEAM REPORTS

FIRSTS

I would like to start by congratulating everybody involved at the Langwarrin Cricket Club for a very successful season. To have six out of eight sides make the semis and 5 through to grand finals, to win four premierships is a mighty effort by any club.

To Andrew Kelly, I thank you not only for all the hard work you have done to get our great club to the position it’s in now, but also giving me the opportunity to lead the club I love.

To Gary Rees, Tim Harper, Rob Prosser, Mal Coutts and Andrew I thank you five guys for all the support you showed me throughout the year. Every time I needed advice or answers you guys were more than willing to help in any way possible. I greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you to Geoff for doing one of the hardest jobs in a cricket club (Chairman of Selectors) even if we did clash heads a few times your advice and opinion was greatly respected.

To big sexual (Roger) thank you for taking the time out of your Saturdays to score and be our team manager.

Big congratulations to Gary, Mal Reid, Michael Spring and Stephen Perry and their teams for claiming something that I strive to win, The Premiership. They don’t come around every day and for you guys to bring home four flags to the club is a memory that will never be forgotten.

To my boys, I thank you most of all for showing me the respect and trust to captain this great side. After all the stuff that happened this year a lot of sides would have thrown in the towel for the season. Not us, I believe it made us stronger and gave us some real self belief between each other and it showed by winning 2-3 games this year that we shouldn’t have won. This side we have at the moment is on the verge of something great and I think with the addition of Mark and Dwayne success is ours for the taking.

In saying that we can’t just go through the motions and expect to win because we have a good side on paper, losing the last two grand finals in the fashion that we have shows we have a lot of hard work to do to gain that success. Use the last two seasons as a learning curve and let it motivate us to hit the pre-season hard. Let’s strive to be not one but two steps ahead of our opposition.

Well done to David Ross on winning the league medal, but as far as individual accolades go that is it as this is a team game and we did not reach the ultimate goal as a team. People may see that as harsh but I believe the team comes before any individual.

I would like to welcome Mark on board as captain/coach with Dwayne as his assistant. I think you two will fit in great and I wish you both all the best for next season.

Again thank you and I look forward to seeing you all next season.

Cheers Nathan Volpe.

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2011/2012 Annual Report

SECONDS

We went into the 2011/2012 season on a high after coming off back to back premierships with a vastly different line-up than that of the one that won the previous premiership. Taylor Smith and Matty Prosser were both lining up in the senior eleven while Hughesy, Azza, Henry, Adam Campbell, Hodder and Wusty were all lining up in other grades.

We started the season as we finished the previous one on a winning note as we rolled through to Xmas without dropping a game. The emergence of Jarryd Amalfi was a highlight as was the emergence of Daniel Bray as his fine season was rewarded with a call up to the firsts and the chance for him to make his debut in the senior eleven was well deserved.

We continued on our winning way after Xmas heading into another Semi-Final having finished the home and away season on top of the ladder for the third straight year all be it for the first time undefeated. We went into the semi final against Flinders with a small amount of trepidation as they were the one team that really troubled us during the season and came into the semi with eight different players including a couple who were multiple senior club champions at previous clubs. We won the toss and batted first and got to witness a fantastic individual effort by Jarryd Amalfi scoring a magnificent 86 supported brilliantly by PS Edwards with 72 helping us on our way to a very competitive 272. On the Sunday Flinders headed out to bat full of confidence after their captain told me that he thought our score was below par only to see our guys bowl brilliantly to tear through Flinders to see them all out for a miserable 97 and find ourselves in yet another Grand Final.

The following weekend saw us square off in our third straight Grand Final against our opponents from the previous year in Somerville. Once again we won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on Lloyd Park 1. After an excellent start from Jarryd and Al who put on 60 we found ourselves really struggling to post a defendable total as we lost regular wickets until Bangers dug deep to pump out a very handy 32 as we limped our way to 175. We knew we would have to bowl and field our butts off to stay in the contest which as I have come to expect from this group we did as we bowled Somerville out for 125 with Benny Johnson and Wusty bowling beautifully for four wickets each backed up by a brilliant fielding performance from all of us.

Another amazing year from an amazing bunch of blokes! I am very proud to have being given the opportunity to be your Captain. Let’s look forward to next season and make it 4 in a row!!!!!!!!!!

THIRDS

Season 2011/12 promised to be a great year right from the start of pre-season with a bolstered playing group available with the return of a few younger players, all having grown in size and skill. This became evident in round 1 with Lachy Kelly top scoring with 41, being run out going for quick runs. There were many other great stories with Matt Davie and Mitch Bromley both making an appearance in the 2nds.

The Brett Day Shield against French island was a great success also with Langwarrin coming out on top for the third consecutive time. We batted first and made 7/269 with Mat Poore hitting an unbeaten 100. He was also so supported by Mitch Bromley (54), Zack Pederson(39) and Jarrod Coad (38). We came back the next week to bowl at French Island. We got an early break thorough before they steadied to be 5/200 at tea. After tea we came out and had French Island under the pump from the first ball. Mathew Poore pulled off a great run out to start a collapse which had French island all out for 221.

Overall the year went as planned going through the whole season undefeated until the semi final. We lost the toss and bowled first getting consistent breakthroughs to bowl out Mornington for 184. They had one bat the hang around to hit 89 which hurt us as he continued to hold up an end. We bowled out Mornington off only 62.1 overs. The pick of the bowlers were: D.Griffiths 3/26 off 14 M.Poore 3/43 off 15

Batting was a different story losing 1 wicket on day 1 followed by a top order collapse on day 2 putting us behind from the very start. Mitch Bromley had a good start but was dismissed for 33. Zack Pederson was the middle order strength batting for the majority of the innings ending up with 12 no. There was no one to go with him to the end which meant we ended up well short of the target. We were eventually bowled out for 135 off 57.2 overs.

Some of the other more memorable performances for 2011/12 were:

Batting Henry Sannen 111 Mathew Poore 100*

Bowling David Griffiths 5/35

Regards.

FOURTHS

The Fourths had a disappointing end to what was generally a consistent year. After being in the top four from round 1 right through to round 11 we missed out on the finals due partly to rain wash out. We played Tyabb in the last round who we had in trouble at 3/10 of 12 overs and due to rain were unable to finish the game. Crib Point had to win to make finials and ended up playing. A few of us drove to Crib Point after our game was called off and could not believe that they were still playing, you could not even see the other side of the oval.

The fourths were pretty much a very young side for a least the first half of the season. In the first three rounds I was the only player over the age of 20. After Christmas we started to get a bit more experience into the side with the likes of Shaun McInnes / Dan Savory and Deans Burns coming into the side.

There were several highlights through the season which included Mitch Bromley making 203 not out against Tootgarook. It was well deserved by Mitch whom had being consistently making runs and then continued his good form making runs in the thirds and played 1 game in the seconds. Brett Magill was excellent with bat and ball, asked if he could open the batting he never looked back with score of over 30 each time he batted. Brett won the batting average award. Young Joel Bateman was fantastic all year and was rewarded with making his first 50 not out at the club. Jarryd Bartlett / Liam Salisbury / Andrew Robertson and Dean Burns were all very good with the ball consistently taking wickets. Aaron Edwards only 13 years of age also showed he will play in higher grades as a keeper batsman with some of his performances.

It was fantastic playing with every one whom played in my team and would like to thank the club for the opportunity to captain the 4ths.

Regards, Mauro Sollecito

FIFTHS

Season 2011/2012 was an excellent season for our B1 side coming away with the premiership.

Throughout the season we were fairly dominant only losing 2 games, Both of which we probably shouldn’t have but it gave us a fair bit of confidence coming into finals knowing that if we were on our game we would be hard to beat.

A very balanced team with the top order batsmen being solid all season, it gave confidence to me as captain knowing that you have the guys who put value on their wicket week in week out which gives us a competitive total to defend when bowling.

Our side was relatively seasoned with a few junior players coming through the side at certain stages of the season and each of them contributing to the team on and off field; we definitely are a club to be envied throughout the competition, with the amount of talented cricketers throughout all grades at our club. Some clubs cannot even be competitive with 3 teams yet Langwarrin is dominant through most of the grades, and as a player that’s something to be fairly proud of!

In finishing I would like to thank and congratulate the committee for the huge effort and commitment they have made to ensure we have one of the best run clubs in the MPCA.

I would also like to congratulate the 2’s 7’s and 8’s on their premierships in season 2011/2012.

Regards, Mal Reid

SIXTHS

Well, what a season it has been. We have had not one but two 400 gamers, a couple of wins and some small controversies. We had some good performances from a couple of juniors and newly ex juniors.

Firstly, congratulations to Ian Middleton and Barry Coutts, who both celebrated their 400 games during the season and a couple of thanks goes to the Somerville and Baden Powell teams who performed in the Guard of Honour for these two players.

Well done to Jacob Brooker, Kieran Collins, Sam Ellis and Owen Vine, who all stood up to the senior level.

Thank you to Barry Coutts, Ian Middleton, Rick Nolde, Cory Sullivan and Dalton Thomas- Stanes who played most games. Thank you for putting in some helpful pointers and for encouraging each other and helping the juniors.

Thank you to Rob Gibbs, Caleb Brockwell and Rob Davy and Sam Preston who played half the season but still put in.

Thank you to Steve Brooker, Stuart Turver, Leigh Palmer, Jordan Salisbury, Ryan Sayers, Kurt Halewood, Greg Talbot, Paul Diehl, Geoff Lester, Brayden Dodds, Paul Bromley and Dean Burns for filling in when needed to make a team.

Lastly, a huge thank you to Travis Whelan who acted as another captain. He was a massive help on and off the field.

I look forward to playing with most of these guys next season.

SEVENTHS

I was going to use Geoff Lester’s email which I supposedly sent to him for the speech which he used on presentation night, but unfortunately I have not been able to find a copy of it after I have searched my computer, so I will have to start from scratch.

I believe this is the first time we have gone through the season undefeated and won the Grand Final comfortably against Mt Eliza, who desperately wanted to beat us. Steve Brooker was the hero with the ball and Stuart Turver the star with the bat.

Throughout the season everyone contributed, in Grand Final batting order:

Greg Talbot a newcomer to the team averaged 43 opening the batting; he set up most innings throughout the year, set a club opening partnership record when he scored 118. Backed up as keeper and took catches in the slips most weeks

Colin (Wally) Hammond impressed so much with the batting he opened in the Grand Final. He averaged 35 with the bat and 18 with the ball, a very consistent season.

Anthony (Chopper) Hart averaged 39 another consistent season as usual.

Michael Spring the less said the better.

Josh Smith came back from Europe and took his mantle as the premier player in the competition. He averaged only 23 with the bat and 11 with the ball.

Stuart Turver kept sensationally during the year and sparkled with the bat. In the Grand Final made 60no to save us in the first innings and averaged 140 for the year. Outstanding!

Steve Brooker surprisingly averaged 32 with the bat, a good result because he can’t bat, but with the ball he was amazing, took wickets quickly whenever he came on an average only 5. Man of the match in the Grand Final with 5 for 10.

Mat Stevenson the Vice Captain had yet another consistent season, slightly down with the batting but averaged 17 with the ball and was invaluable help to me.

Chris Baker continued to swing the ball and bat all season, he won a match coming in at 10 and always troubled batsmen with his banana benders, He averaged 16 with the ball.

Geoff Lester (the real captain) amazing player, a , averaged 63 with the bat and 11 with the ball. He had a very handy 3 for 3 in the grand final ensured victory.

Gary Hannan, Cueball did what he always has done which is come on to bowl and have 1 for 0 in his first over, how he does it is extraordinary, an important 40+ last wicket stand in the Grand Final and averaged 13 with the ball. A great season

Thanks also has to go to Rod Doyle and Rhino, for playing and filling in for us this year.

9 here we come!!

EIGHTHS

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the day to day running of the club as without these people none of us would be out there playing cricket on the weekends for Langwarrin.

My job as captain was made fairly easy for me this year as we picked up some handy cricketers from Heatherhill Cricket Club who were able to fill the void that was left in our team from last year’s premiership winning team replacing very talented players like Ben Johnson and Jarrod Coad who both played games in the senior one’s side this year. Plus I need to mention we also had our trusty old dogs along for another season as well me included in the old dogs.

We had a very frustrating start to the year as I think we missed more games than we played before Xmas due to rain, thus the reason we all look well out of shape coming into Christmas as we had plenty of drinking time.

Once the season really got going we were hugely successful with my only headache being who I can give a bat to as no team had really pushed us. It was unfortunate that the only time we got to play Mt Eliza who does give us a very competitive game was washed out and we didn’t face of again until the Grand Final.

The Semi Final was a massive anti climax when we played Pines as their 3 best players had not qualified for finals selection. Not very bright!

Then coming into the final I was a little concerned as we had not had a competitive hit out for quite some time and thought we may be a little under done, but to the boys credit we have a great self belief and from the first wicket who was 6 game Mr Browne for no score I knew we were going to be very hard to beat. Every player contributed to this enjoyable win with no outstanding performances apart from Joyce doing his hammy.

It was an Honour to captain such a great bunch of guys and I look forward to playing again next year and making it 3 in a row.

Regards

The DIVA aka
