PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Firstly, I’d like to thank every cricketer who pulled on the whites for the Langwarrin Cricket Club this season.

I’d like to thank every senior captain and every junior coach for their outstanding contribution to the Langwarrin CC in season 2010-11.

I want to congratulate all teams on their efforts this season. In particular, congratulations to the five senior teams who made it through to the grand final and to the Seconds, Sevenths and Eighths for tasting the ultimate success. Congratulations also to the three junior teams who played finals, our Premier U13, U15 and U17 sides.

This year, Langwarrin CC entered the second year of its three year plan. After a tough season both on and off the field in 2009-10, we looked forward to building on the efforts of the previous year and carry-on our objectives of ensuring financial stability and credibility, engaging the local business community, encouraging our host of youth to play senior cricket and to continue to strive to return to Provincial grade.

We can be satisfied that we were able to achieve the large majority of our objectives.

In terms of bringing through juniors and integrating them into our senior systems, I’m proud to say that five U15s and seven U17s played senior cricket at Langwarrin CC this season. A further two played juniors with us and seniors at a neighboring club. We hope to have these guys in our senior system in the future. There were seven juniors who made their senior debut this season.

In terms of financial stability, we secured $15,000 in sponsorship this season, as well as photoboard sponsorship. We also hosted an Esso Corporate Day, which netted the club $3500.

Thanks to the drive of Geoff Lester and Peter Blood and the support of the legends and past players of our club, approximately $3000 was raised from an Auction Night and Past Players Day.

We also received more than $2000 in-kind support from the likes of Reddy Roast Frankston and Burdetts Sand & Soil.

Off-field achievements this year included resurfacing practice nets one and two, extending the run-ups in the practice area, obtaining a new pitch for Lloyd 1, purchasing more than $5000 worth of equipment and providing new cricket kits for the U11s & U13s, as well as remodelling of the bathrooms in the Sports Club.

For the second year in succession, we have left the club in a strong financial position. On the field, we invested into our club. We fielded Milo Cricket, 11 junior sides and eight senior sides. Of 17 sides, more than half played finals. We employed a new coach in Mal Coutts and ensured that there was support around him. Tim Harper and Rob Prosser shared the Team Managers duties, Roger Brearly became a full-time scorer, Geoff Lester became Chairman of Selectors and we employed a physio to prepare the players, particularly the firsts and seconds, every Saturday.

16th May 2011 Page 8

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2010/2011 Annual Report I’d like to thank Tim, Rob and Geoff for their outstanding support, mentoring, coaching and guidance this season and to Rog, who was there every step of the way.

I want to thank Nathan Volpe, who joined our committee this season and demanded responsibility to get things done. He was responsible for driving the resurfacing and concreting of the nets, as well as remodelling the bathrooms. We also thank everyone who assisted in these big projects.

I want to give a heartfelt thank you to the executive, Jack Heverin, Scott Morrow, Daniel Bray and Luke Smith, for their tireless efforts this season. It’s a tough ask to manage a club our size but these guys do a wonderful job.

We couldn’t have achieved what we have without the support of the committee, especially Brooke Miles, who did a fantastic job to drive the social calendar. The work Lee Palmer does around the place is unbelievable and he keeps raising the bar. Aaron Baleisis manages the bar behind the scenes and does a fantastic job ensuring that the fridges are always stocked. To the rest of the committee, Wade Thomas, Janice Dowler, Matt Reddaway and Chris Baker, thank you for your commitment this season.

To everyone who has given us a hand behind the bar this season, thank you.

To the girls who helped Brooke drive social functions, in particular Danielle White, thank you. To Lyn Morrow, who selflessly manages the canteen every Saturday morning, as well as managing the afternoon teas, a big thank you.

I also want to thank Kellie and Steve Brooker, who put up their hand this season to transfer the junior scorebook information into the computer. Thanks you.

Most of all, I want to thank the wives, girlfriends, partners and children of each of the committee members. Whilst it was tough for us to provide the time required to manage the club, it was very tough on our families – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Finally, I want to sincerely thank Russ and Lyn Thomas and the entire Thomas family for opening their hearts and their home to take in Anjula Perera. Typically, they went way beyond the level of expectation.

To our sponsors, Michael Spring and Harcourts Langwarrin, Greg Talbot and Sportsco Dandenong & Karingal, Jamie Bartling and RAMS Home Loans, Andrew Kiely and Jetts Fitness, Roz Moran at Langwarrin Township Committee, Damien Tobin at DMK Carpentry and local politicians Neale Burgess and Jude Perera – thank you for your generous support. This is all extremely positive and there is no doubting that we can be proud of our achievements this season.

However, whilst we can be satisfied with our performance, we’ve got to raise the bar in 2011- 12. We must get better. There are many areas we can get better and everyone can help us. - We must ourselves and encourage others to support the club next season – the support of the playing group generally was abysmal at social functions and after training. Not to mention the lack of support in paying subs. - We need people to get involved with the committee. The fact of the matter is that the current executive is pulling-up stumps at the end of next season. We need a succession plan and need people in this room to think about what role they will play in this. - We need to have more junior parents involved in managing the junior program. It is a club within a club and support is greatly needed. - We need to provide greater support to the lower senior grades to ensure their training is structured and co-ordinated and that youngsters are given coaching and a clear pathway.

16th May 2011 Page 9

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2010/2011 Annual Report - We need seven/eight or nine captains that respect and appreciate the role they play in encouraging their players to support the club. - We need every player in the club to take ownership of THEIR club!!

Everyone can have a positive effect and impact on helping Langwarrin CC to raise the bar. You can guarantee the current executive and committee will be doing its best.

It gives me great pleasure to formerly announce that Frankston RSL will become the joint- major of Langwarrin CC for the next two seasons – thank you to Rob Morrison and his team for your support.

Thank you everyone and I look forward to working with you all next season.

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2010/2011 Annual Report COACH’S REPORT

Firstly I want to thank a few people for their hard work helping myself and the club during the season. Tim Harper & Rob Prosser for their work at training and as team managers, mentors to me and the first & second XI’s. Geoff Lester for the hard job of being Chairman of Selectors, this is not an easy job, and it’s a thankless job. Geoff has taken the position to a new level and I know he will take it even further next year. I look forward to Geoff challenging the captains and myself again next season. I also want to thank Greg Talbot for running the nets at every opportunity he could be there and Clive Jackson for his hard work and effort at training also. Neil Price was another new face back at the club this year, as he took us for 2 training sessions. Neil has a great cricket and baseball background so his fielding drills and cricket game play training was fantastic for the group. We will get Neil back again next year for another 2 sessions. Thanks again Neil for giving us your time. Lastly I want to thank the committee and all captains for their hard work on and off the field and I look forward working with you all again next year. The club and I would like to thank all the junior players that played senior cricket this year. It’s great to see the junior players coming through and playing senior cricket at a high level.

A club the size of Langwarrin is always going to be hard to manage, though I think we did an ok job this year, I think we can do a better job next year. I know we let the third to eight XI down with training and coaching, this I would like to apologise for now, but I think as a club it will be better next year with another coach for these sides. We have had a player come to us and offer their assistance and we will make this well known when it’s official.

We’re also looking for a dedicated net captain that can be there both Tuesday and Thursday’s to get the nets ready and to organise players as they turn up, by marking them off and organising , bowling and sending players out to field. So if you think you have the time to commit to this very thankless position, please let Andrew Kelly or myself know ASAP.

Next season we will have a training committee in place, so that we can make sure we meet the needs of the club and the players, hopefully make our training sessions even better than they were this year. This will be made up of the captains, emerging leaders, Tim Harper & Rob Prosser.

As a club, what a great year we had. 6 of our 8 sides made the finals series, with 5 sides going through to the Grand Final and 3 sides winning premierships. Congratulations to you all on a fantastic season.

I look forward to seeing you all in the new season 2011/12.

JUNIOR CO-ORDINATORS’ REPORT

This year we fielded 2 under 11’s, 3 under 13’s, 2 under 15’s and 2 under 17’s. Of these sides all of our Premier sides made the finals. Two of these sides were unlucky to have the weather conditions against them. The rules regarding wet weather were not in our favour and as a result these sides were not able to progress through to the Grand Final. The side that did make through to the Grand Final were not able bring home the trophy. With all that said, finals cricket is a bonus and it is more about fun, participation and development of the juniors. I think we were able to achieve this. This does not happen easily and a lot of hard work is done by all coaches and parents helping out at training and match days.

Congratulations to Leon Davis, Kieran Collins and Aaron Edwards. All three of these boys made the MPCA England Touring Squad.

The Jan Kersey best club person went to Kellie Brooker for stepping up and filling the main role of junior administrator, every last statistic on junior is entered by her.

The Brett Day award for the best performance by an under 17 player went to Matthew Prosser for 75* and 3/11 in the one game.

The Ron Pearce award is given to the player who conducts themselves in the greatest manner went to Rob Viney. He unfortunately suffered a season ending knee injury early in the season but provided great support to his team throughout.

The under 15’s Most Improved went to Matthew Hames who had showed some promise with his batting, he is very new to organised cricket and made great strides.

The Under 17’s Most Improved went to Blake Harkness for his continued development with his batting. It’s never easy opening the batting and Blake scored his maiden in the 5th XI.

Brayden Dodds won junior club champion for his all round fantastic season, as one of a few top age cricketers in our top U/17 side he lead the side in all facets of the game both on and off field. His development from a bowler to an all rounder was a highlight.

A huge thank you needs to go out to the committee for their hard work and inspiration. As a unit you were very strong and cohesive.

Kellie and Steve Brooker took on the role as junior administrators. Fantastic effort guys, it is a huge role and it was done perfectly.

Mauro Sollecito and Chris Hull were unsung heroes in my eyes for playing the juniors in their senior sides and allowing them to get a go and develop.

Thanks to Luke Smith, Jamie Jewiss and Gary Rees with their efforts with the Milo cricketers. These kids are our future in 15 years time.

Thank you to Lyn Morrow for the early Saturday morning coffee and conversation.

All these smaller roles help the whole system function more smoothly.

Thank you Lee Palmer

TEAM REPORTS

FIRSTS

When I reflect on the season that was 2010/2011, I start with the goals the committee and I set the side. This was to finish in the top 4 and play finals, to have a steady and balanced side and to promote the youth of the club on performance and not their name or what they have done in previous years. Well we achieved all these goals, we were the minor premiers of the competition only losing 1 home and away game for the season, most games we had four players under the age of 21, three players under 30 and four 31 and . This was a good balance of youth, experience and mature players. This season we had an international player in Anjula Perera. Anjula came to us with good experience in first class cricket in Sri Lanka and was a wonderful role model for all junior and senior players. I wish Anjula all the best in his future cricketing endeavours. Taylor Smith made his debut after good consistent scores in the 2nd’s.

As a team, we were a very close knit side, we all performed when it counted most and it wasn’t left up to the same players every week. This season we only used fourteen players. This helped in the balance and consistency of the side. Headed up by the best two team managers anyone could ask for in Tim Harper & Rob Prosser, our warm-ups, pre game speeches and drinks were the best of any side in the competition. This directly contributed to our success. Also the service provided by the club physio Bec Tobin, insured we were in good condition prior to the commencement of the game. Roger Brearley was in charge of scoring, stats, balls and looking after the umpires. Geoff Lester was also outstanding as Chairman of Selectors and making the hard calls when they needed to be made. To Tim, Rob, Geoff, Roger and Bec, I can’t thank you all enough for your hard work and dedication to the side and the club.

This season the club and I started an emerging leaders group, we chose 3 players in Jack Heverin, David Ross and Nathan Volpe as the next leaders of the club. These 3 players were also all vice captains of the team. This was the first season for this idea and we hope to develop it further in season 2011/2012 not only for these three players but for the next group of players to become emerging leaders.

Andy Johnson was the only player to make a century and two other players made scores in the nineties. Three players made over 350 runs for the season, these were all good solid contributors to the team. With our bowling we had 3 players take more than 20 , Ben Wells took 6 in one innings and 2 other players took 5. Jack Heverin had a good season behind the stumps with 21 catches and 14 stumpings, whilst Anjula got 3 run-outs. These are all good statistics for the side.

The only thing we couldn’t do in season 2010/11 was beat Hastings. They beat us during the season and also in the Grand Final, apart from this I feel our season was a very positive one and now we need look forward and plan for season 2011/12.

I would like to thank all players, their families, the committee and the club for their support and efforts throughout the season and I look forward to seeing you all at preseason training in August.

SECONDS

Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew Kelly and the committee for giving me the opportunity to captain the 2nds once again. With the arrival of several new players to the club, we were always going to field a very strong cricket side and the hunger was certainly there with the chance to win back to back flags as motivation.

We started the season fielding an extremely strong side with an excellent mix of experience and youth, with high hopes expected of our crop of young guns namely Matt Prosser, Tay Smith, and Tyler Molloy. It didn’t take long for our first glimpse at the future. Round three took us down the road to Balnarring facing a team similar in set up to ours with experience and youth. Bowling first Balnarring posted a good one day score of 171, in reply we were in massive trouble at 4-33 when Tay Smith joined Aaron Baleisis at the crease. We then witnessed the emergence of a future 1sts player as Tay and Aaron put on 115 for the fifth wicket as we went on to get up on the last ball.

Round 7 came around and we find ourselves on top undefeated, when we come up against lowly Red Hill. After winning the toss and batting Matt Prosser was promoted to number 3 and did not disappoint reeling off 58 before being run out cruelly as we all thought he was on his way to 100.

We travelled very well heading towards the finals only dropping the one game for the year against Somerville in Round 9 which if anything probably gave us the kick in the backside we needed to switch back on for finals cricket.

In the semi-final we hosted Baden Powell who had somehow qualified quite a few senior players who we hadn’t seen in our earlier match. Batting first we clawed our way to a competitive score of 247 led by most improved cricketer in the club Tay Smith, who cracked a magnificent 87 supported by Jamie Jewiss (60) and our other young gun Matt Prosser (39). In reply when rain stopped play late on the Sunday we were in control with Baden Powell 9 down for 198 and with no further play possible we were into another Grand Final.

In the Grand Final we hosted Somerville, the one team to get the better of us during the year. Once again we battled first and found ourselves battling at 7 for 155. It took a fantastic knock from our opening bowler Anthony Hughes who forged out 44 invaluable runs clawing us to a moderate but competitive total of 221. However, runs on the board once again proved the difference as Somerville collapsed to be all out for 143 handing us a well earned and deserved second premiership in 2 years.

Highlights of the year

Batting:

Tay Smith 404 runs @ 50.50 Jamie Jewiss 442 runs @ 40.18 Pete Edwards 395 runs @ 39.50 Aaron Baleisis 327 runs @ 36.33

All of the above made centuries.

Bowling:

Jamie Jewiss 20 wickets @ 9.40 Damien Wust 19 wickets @ 12 Luke Hodder 18 wickets @ 15

16th May 2011 Page 16

Damien Wust bowling 10 overs in a one day game and taking 3 for 0.

In closing I would just like to congratulate the sevenths and eighths on winning the premiership in their grades. Also a special well done to Mal Coutts and the first on a fantastic year going so close to the ultimate prize.

To Tim and Rob thank you for the help and work you put in during the year it was much appreciated.

To all who supported the 2nds during the year a big thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone at pre season for the 2011/12 season and the chance for a very rare three-peat.

THIRDS

Season 2010/2011 was a somewhat different year to what the A1 side has been used to over the last few seasons with bad weather and losing 4 games throughout the season to finish 4th on the ladder. We went into the Semi Final knowing if we played to the best of our ability we could beat the top side Delacombe Park and that we did just that on the 1st day knocking them over for 108.

Bowling: J. Harker 4/17 B. Dredge 2/13 M. Davie 2/14

Batting: G. Talbot 70* S. McInnes 38

This booked us a Grand Final berth against French Island.

Grand Final Day 1. Once again we had to travel over to the isolated French Island with only a few VOCAL supporters to cheer us on (thanks guys) After losing the toss and bowling we battled hard all day with French Island finishing 9/232 on a small quickish ground, our guys remained positive and maintained pressure throughout the entire day and although the opposition had the score on the board we had the talent and belief that we could achieve this if we batted out our allotted 75 overs. Bowling: J. Burgess 12 Overs 4 Maidens 5/29 J. Harker 17 Overs 5 Maidens 3/29 B. Dredge 21 Overs 3 Maidens 1/59

Day 2: We arrived on the island and we all spoke of the challenge we had in front of us and the positivity in the group was buzzing, we knew the importance of a good solid start and that French Island would be right on us from the 1st ball. The day didn’t start or finish well with us being bowled out for 102, very disappointing given the calibre of batsmen that we had. I now look back through our team list and think what went wrong, that shouldn’t have happened! Batting: D. Bray 25 S. McInnes 20

French Island seem to have the wood over the A1 side in finals with us now having played and lost 1 Semi Final and 3 Grand Finals in the last 4 seasons, Let’s hope we can start to even the ledger in the near future.

Round 1- Brett Day Shield

The home and away game against French Island is played for the Brett Day Memorial Shield and is in its 10th season and a very important event for the A1 side.

This game is always a very close game and over the years we have built up a huge rivalry and respect for the French Island CC and I’m pleased to report that the Brett Day Shield remains at the LCC after a great win in season 2010/2011

The ledger is now 6 to 4 in our favour.

16th May 2011 Page 18

Langwarrin Cricket Club 2010/2011 Annual Report

French Island were bowled out for 145 off 39 overs and in reply we made 4/154 with 3 overs spare. Great win guys!! Bowling: M. Reddaway 5/38 M. Oliver 3/27

I hope the importance of this shield continues strongly throughout the future.

In finishing I would like to thank and congratulate the Committee for the huge effort and commitments they have made to ensure we have one of the best run clubs in the MPCA. I would also like to congratulate the 2’s 7’s and 8’s on their premierships in season 2010/2011.

FOURTHS

What a strange season it was for season 2010/11. Due to a combination of bad weather and ground conditions we only managed to play two 2 day games with the remaining one day games. As it turned out we won all the one day games and lost all two day games including the semi final.

Our team had many of the same faces from last season we were pleased to see Luke Hodder and Matt Reddaway earn their stripes in the higher grades while welcoming back Craig Morrow from his brief stint in the 1st XI.

The season we were always blessed with a quality bowling attack who always kept the pressure on the opposition batsman. Three young guns in Matt Davie, Jaymin McCallum and Andrew Robertson will play plenty of higher grade cricket starting next season. They were ably supported by regulars Craig Morrow, Clint McKneil and Adam Bence.

We did however struggle putting together regular partnerships throughout the season, with usually one big partnership getting us over the line in those one day games. The batting highlights were Scott Morrow’s consistency at the top of the order which netted him the Wintercooke Champion and Mathew Poore’s brilliant century against Tootgarook. Wade Thomas had a couple of nice cameos as well.

Our efforts in the field were what could be expected from a group of uncoordinated battlers but the mateship and fun that was had ensured that spirits never dropped even if a couple of catches did.

The semi final started disastrously with our talisman Scott being dismissed cheaply, we never seemed to recover and but for a 10th wicket partnership from Andrew and Jaymin we would have had no hope. Three quick wickets before the close of play left the game evenly poised going into day 2. We picked up another key scalp at the start of day 2 but never managed to break partnerships regularly and eventually lost by 3 wickets.

We’d like to thank the Club for allowing a group of us friends to play together throughout the season.

Congratulations to Gary Rees, Michael Spring and Darren Joyce for captaining their respective sides to Premiership Glory.

Congratulations as well to Lee Palmer on his life membership, the work you have done for our junior program has been outstanding.

Regards, Mathew Poore & Craig Morrow

FIFTHS

The fifths had a fairly good season despite not making finals. We ended up winning 6 games and finished just outside the four. The draw and weather probably went against us. We were the only side to play are very strong Pines side twice whom were the eventual winners in B1.Both times we were very competitive against Pines but they had the likes of the Jackson Brothers and were just too strong .We were probably the second best side in B1 despite not making the finals, we defeated both Baxter and French Island quite easy during the season

The fifths this season were filled with a large amount of junior cricketers. Most were first and second year under 17s.The senior players included Paul Bromley, Travis Whelan, Paul Diehl, Rohan Smith and Ryan Sayers. The support from the senior players was fantastic. This season saw Mitch Bromley play a full season with his dad Paul which was fantastic for both of them.

As Captain and as a team we went out to win every game, however the main focus of the season was to have fun and give everybody in the team whether senior or junior player an opportunity to contribute either with the bat or ball and most of all allow the juniors to develop. The club has some outstanding junior talent which was evident in their performances during the year.

Liam Salisbury winning the fifths also taking the most wickets at the club and ended up taking the most wickets in B1, in the game against Ballam Park ended up with figures of 7/43 and 2/11. Liam finished up the year training with Frankston Heat and has been asked back for preseason training.

Nick Hammill had a great year wining the Fifths batting average and finished second in the most amount of runs at the club, he also finished fourth in the most amount of runs in B1. Blake Harkness playing in his second game for the fifths made 114 not out and them played the remainder of the season in the fourths.

Mitch Bromley had a great end to the season opening the batting with three scores above 40 including his first 50 in seniors. Jarryd Bartlett played every game after Christmas and was fantastic he has the ability to move to ball both ways and was unplayable in the games against French Island taking 4 wickets and Seaford taking 3 wickets.

Brett Magill, Caleb Brockwell, Damien Oliver, Hayden Brooker and Dalton Thomas Stanes were also good contributors during the season.

I had an enjoyable season and would like to thank the club for allowing me to captain the Fifths.

SIXTHS

The Langwarrin Sixth XI was the breeding ground for our stars of tomorrow, blended together with some of the biggest names in the club’s history.

Life Members Barry Coutts, Ian Middleton along with Rick Nolde provided the backbone of the team, whilst a number of Under 15s and U17s rotated through.

Chris Hull put his hand-up to skipper the team and did a fantastic job. Chris’ aim was to follow the direction of the club by giving the youngsters an opportunity to play senior cricket.

Whilst the team failed to win a game this season, the opportunities given to the youngsters has provided the club with a wonderful group of talent coming through, all of whom have confidence to play senior cricket.

Under 15 Sam Preston got an opportunity to open the innings on a number of occasions, while Under 15 teammates Hesh Silva and Haydn Brooker took the new ball on countless occasions with great effect. Haydn also had a couple of good innings with the ball.

Under 17 Jordan Salisbury was a rock in the top order and proved once again that he is one of the true up and coming keeper-batsmen in the club.

Under 15 captain Lachlan Kelly had an outstanding season, collecting the batting, bowling and fielding awards. A best game of 5/59 from 27 overs and 78no proved he has a future as a senior cricketer at the club.

Jarryd Bartlett was promoted to the fifths after some outstanding games in the sixths and has a big future at the club.

Kyle Heffernan and Dalton Thomas-Stanes played significant roles in the side for the large majority of the season.

Whilst the team was starved of wins, they enjoyed their cricket every time they took to the field, which is what the club is all about.

SEVENTHS

At the start of the season when the competition was trimmed to only 6 teams, we felt we were an excellent chance to make it into the top 4. We went through the season only marginally losing one game and ended up winning the grand final by 200 runs. It was good to see some new players who fitted well into the team as well as some returning players to the club.

In Grand final batting order the team was: Daniel Painter was very steady at the top of the order for us finishing with an average just over 30, it was his second year of cricket with us and I hope there is more to come.

Lee Palmer was fantastic averaging over 53 with the bat (with one centaury) and 17 with the ball and as always magnificent in the field. Congratulations on a well deserved Life Membership with the club; your dedication to the juniors of this club has been outstanding.

Anthony ‘Chopper’ Hart is new addition to the club this year. He scored over 400 runs at 41 with 3 fifties, he received an unlucky decision in the Grand Final and I am sure he will be back next year to rack up the first of many centuries for us.

Josh Smith was the standout player in the competition; he averaged 49 with the bat and 9 with the ball. His highlights were his Semi and Grand Final batting displays when he came in under pressure and delivered victory. A superb season!

Stuart Turver was another new addition to this team and it was great to have him. Named the ‘Marquee’ player before the season he kept flawlessly and battered well and it will be great to continue playing with him.

Matt Stevenson was made Vice Captain this year and had his best year with us, averaging nearly 25 with the bat and 15 with the ball. He filled in for me for 4 matches and had a 100% strike rate.

Rod Doyle was another new player in the team and fitted straight in. He had a high score of 42 and was ever trusty in the gully; finally after so many personal grand final losses he had a win.

Steve Brooker came into the team and went bang, in fact he went bang ten times straight away in his first innings making 80 off about 20 balls with ten sixes, however after that innings we realized he was the new G Splatt. He can bowl though averaging 11 and taking important wickets when it counted.

Colin ‘Wally’ Hammond the legend returned. He started slowly but after Christmas was sensational taking 20 wickets at 13. It is great to have him back at the club and I hope he continues.

Finally Chris Baker either opened or was first change bowler all year averaged 15 with the ball. With the amount of swing he gets it’s admirable that he can keep it on the high school pitch.

Also thanks to the others who filled in through the year especially Hayden Brooker who subbed for us in the Finals.

EIGHTHS

I’d just like to start of by thanking Langwarrin for the opportunity to captain the C1 team for the 2010/2011 season, and what a season it was. We won 10 games drew 5 & lost 3,which saw us finish on top of the ladder at the end of the home & away season. We played Heatherhill in the first semi, which was a bit of a grudge match, won the toss & sent them in bowling them out for 63 with Steve Perry taking 5/18.We came out to bat & made 7/69 of 27 overs with Steve Perry making 33, great effort by all we made the grand final. The grand final was played at Lloyd Park 3 against Mt Eliza, the team that screwed us last year. Won the toss again & put them into bat, had them 9/159 of 40 overs. We got of to a shaky start losing Rick first ball, but Chris Bartlett & Steve Perry steadied the chase & a great innings by Andy Duffield (48) saw us over the line, great win boys revenge for last year. Congratulations to the following players.

Chris Aedy for winning the batting award with an average of 36.11.

Steve Perry for winning the bowling award with an average of 9.39

Jarred Coad for winning the fielding award

Well done boys on having a great year.

I would like to thank all the players who helped out throughout the year with canteen duty and organizing the book and equipment. I would also like to thank the following people Andrew Kelly & his family for doing meals on a Saturday night, and the whole committee for their effort & hard work to make sure that we played every week, and last but not least to my team mates for having a fantastic season & bringing home the trophy well done guys.
