MESRA) a Panel of Advisers Will Guide MESRA and MAECS in Their Engagement Efforts to Reach out to the Malays and Other Communities PEOPLE’S ASSOCIATION 9 King George’s Avenue Singapore 208581 Tel: (65) 63405430;63405432;62382032 Fax: (65) 63485977 Website: www.pa.gov.sg 17 February 2017 NEW ADVISERS APPOINTED TO THE PEOPLE’S ASSOCIATION MALAY ACTIVITY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEES COUNCIL (MESRA) A Panel of Advisers will guide MESRA and MAECS in their engagement efforts to reach out to the Malays and other communities Mr Masagos Zulkifli bin Masagos Mohamad, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Grassroots Adviser to Tampines GRC GROs was appointed the new Adviser to the People’s Association (PA) Malay Activity Executive Committees Council (MESRA) on 5 December 2016. Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal bin Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Social and Family Development and Grassroots Adviser to Nee Soon GRC GROs was appointed as Co-Adviser to MESRA. 2 MESRA, the co-ordinating council of the MAECs, aims to guide the MAECs in engaging the community, including the non-Malays, through a wide range of outreach programmes, assist the MAECs and other grassroots organisations (GROs) to identify and recruit suitable Malay grassroots volunteers. They also facilitate collaborations between MAECs and other GROs, community partners and individuals in the relevant fields from the various communities to benefit the wider community. 3 The Advisers to MESRA will guide and chart the future direction of MESRA and its Malay Activity and Executive Committees (MAECs) to better engage and serve the Malays and other communities. 1 4 To further strengthen MESRA and support its functions, Minister Masagos Zulkifli has initiated the formation of a Panel of Advisers to MESRA. The new Panel of Advisers comprises MESRA Adviser, Co-Adviser and four Grassroots Advisers. They are: Panel Adviser GRC Chairman Mr Masagos Zulkifli Tampines Adviser to MESRA Vice Chairman A/P Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim Nee Soon Co-Adviser to MESRA Members Mdm Halimah Yacob Marsiling-Yew Tee Dr Mohamad Maliki bin Osman East Coast Mr Amrin Amin Sembawang Mr Zaqy Mohamad Chua Chu Kang 5 The Panel of Advisers will focus on deepening and widening MAEC’s outreach programmes to engage the Malays and other communities. The Panel will spearhead new initiatives to broaden the network and outreach of the MAECs. This will ensure continued recruitment of new volunteers and leadership renewal of its MAECs’ members. 6 Associate Professor Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information, former MESRA Adviser for more than 15 years, has been appointed Honorary Adviser to MESRA since 2016. He continues to provide consultancy and guidance to MESRA and the MAECs, given his valuable experience. 7 We would appreciate it if you can publish the above announcement on Saturday, 18 February 2017.     Excerpt of Speech by Deputy Prime Minister, Teo Chee Hean, at Committee of Supply 2018 Strengthening our Institutions and Helping Our People Succeed The PMO-Strategy Group is working closely with our agencies and other central agencies such as the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service Division to adopt a systems approach to planning and coordination. This includes areas such as scenario planning, budget, manpower, population, land, security, climate change and new opportunities in the Digital and Future Economy. We have formed the Smart Nation and Digital Government Group last May to accelerate our Smart Nation efforts. Dr Fatimah Lateef and Mr Lee Yi Shyan cited demographic challenges, which stem from our low total fertility rate. Agencies have worked together to strengthen our support for marriage and parenthood in the key areas of housing, pre-school, and support in the workplace and the community. Minister Josephine Teo will give an update of our population priorities and strategies to ensure that we are well-prepared for the future later on during this Committee of Supply for PMO. Climate change is also a whole-of-nation issue where all countries need to take action now to safeguard our collective future. Together with other countries, Singapore will do our part to reduce our emissions. To do so in a cost-effective manner, the carbon tax is a decisive move. Its merits were discussed extensively during the Budget debate. The transition period and support will also help our companies and consumers make the adjustments. Minister Masagos Zulkifli will provide more details in his speech on our implementation plans in the Committee of Supply for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.

More than 1,000 participants from the healthcare and social care sectors are expected to attend the inaugural National Seminar on Productivity in Healthcare and Intermediate and Long-Term Care (ILTC) Quality Festival 2014, starting today. Organised by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), both events will be held back-to-back from 9 to 10 October at Max Atria @ Singapore Expo in conjunction with the National Productivity Month 2014. 2. Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Health, graced the opening of the National Seminar on Productivity in Healthcare this morning. Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Transport, will be opening the ILTC Quality Festival tomorrow. 3. With the theme “Enhancing Care through Quality and Productivity”, the two events aim to encourage a culture of productivity and quality improvement in the healthcare and social care sectors to further enhance the quality of care in Singapore. One of the highlights of the National Seminar on Productivity in Healthcare is an exhibition with over 20 community care organisations, public healthcare agencies and educational institutions represented. (For the list of participating organisations, please refer to Annex A) They will showcase their efforts in raising productivity to better care for their patients and clients. This first exhibition of its kind features over 40 projects, several of which were funded by the Healthcare Productivity Fund – Intermediate and Long-Term Care, and include projects that use cutting-edge technology and equipment in the delivery care and which improve time and manpower resources.
