This event was held on 17 August 2009 at Comcentre Theatrette. The Guest-of-Honour for the ceremony was Mr Masagos Zulkifli Bin Masagos Mohamad, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Home Affairs. The ceremony was also graced by Mr Allen Lew, CEO Singapore, SingTel. In his opening address, Mr Masagos shared that his sister and himself were beneficiaries of UTES Bursary Award, “…I urged my sister to come out together with me to tell our stories so that parents and employees will know that there is always help from the union for their children to continue to excel in their studies.” During the ceremony, Mr Logarajah s/o J K Sabapathy, General Secretary of UTES, read out the National Day Message from NTUC Secretary-General, Mr Lim Swee Say. NS Hub A New Milestone in Singapore’s National Service Journey 25 Nov 2019 Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen (third from left) participating in the symbolic sod-turning at the NS Hub Groundbreaking Ceremony with Senior Ministers of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How (third from right) and Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman (second from left), Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant.. Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen officiated at the National Service (NS) Hub Groundbreaking Ceremony this afternoon. As part of the event, Dr Ng participated in the symbolic sod turning and toured various NS Hub exhibits. 1 The NS Hub, which will house various NS-related services such as NS administration, medical screening, and fitness testing for the NS community, will be a one-stop service centre that brings greater ease and convenience, and better serves the needs of the NS community. Members of the public will also be able to access amenities and facilities such as F&B outlets and an outdoor community area equipped with fitness equipment, a running track and a football field. The building is scheduled to be completed in 2023. Speaking at the event, Dr Ng said that the NS Hub represented another milestone in Singapore's NS journey. He said, "It represents another milestone in our commitment to NS. And if you think about NS or our commitment to NS, it is a shared one. It is a shared commitment because it cannot exist otherwise. You have to have the Government and the citizens behind it. It does not work one without the other.

Singapore 2020 International Religious Freedom Report
SINGAPORE 2020 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary The constitution, laws, and policies provide for religious freedom, subject to restrictions relating to public order, public health, and morality. The government continued to ban Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (Unification Church). It restricted speech or actions it perceived as detrimental to “religious harmony.” The government held 12 Jehovah’s Witnesses in the armed forces’ detention facility for refusing on religious grounds to complete mandatory national service. In December, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) detained a 16-year-old Christian male for planning to attack two mosques using a machete on the anniversary of the 2019 Christchurch, New Zealand mosque shootings. According to the ministry, the individual had been self- radicalized through online material, including the Christchurch attacker’s manifesto and ISIS videos of violence against Christians. The government stated the individual acted alone and did not try to influence or involve others in his attack plans. In February, the MHA launched an investigation into a local, unregistered chapter of the South Korean Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church), which resulted in the deportation of five South Koreans and the dissolution of affiliated organizations. In November, authorities arrested 21 individuals for resuming activities of the church “covertly.” In June, police detained a permanent resident for posting comments to Instagram about wanting to kill Muslims. In September, police issued a warning to Workers’ Party Member of Parliament Raeesah Khan for social media posts she made in 2018 and May 2020, before she was a candidate for parliament, accusing the government of discrimination against religious and racial minorities.

OPENING REMARKS BY SENIOR MINISTER TEO CHEE HEAN AT THE PUBLIC SECTOR DATA SECURITY REVIEW COMMITTEE PRESS CONFERENCE ON 27 NOVEMBER 2019 Good morning everyone and thank you for attending the press conference. Work of the PSDSRC 2 As you know, in 2018 and 2019, we uncovered a number of data-related incidents in the public sector. In response to these incidents, the government had immediately introduced additional IT security measures. Some of these measures included network traffic and database activity monitoring, and endpoint detection and response for all critical information infrastructure. But, there was a need for a more comprehensive look at public sector data security. 3 On 31 March this year, the Prime Minister directed that I chair a Committee to conduct a comprehensive review of data security policies and practices across the public sector. 4 I therefore convened a Committee, which consisted of my colleagues from government - Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Mr S Iswaran, Mr Chan Chun Sing, and Dr Janil Puthucheary - as well as five international and private sector representatives with expertise in data security and technology. If I may just provide the background of these five private sector members: We have Professor Anthony Finkelstein, Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security to the UK Government and an expert in the area of data and cyber security; We have Mr David Gledhill who is with us today. He is the former Chief Information Officer of DBS and has a lot of experience in applying these measures in the financial and banking sector; We have Mr Ho Wah Lee, a former KPMG partner with 30 years of experience in information security, auditing and related issues across a whole range of entities in the private and public sector; We have Mr Lee Fook Sun, who is the Executive Chairman of Ensign Infosecurity.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat just delivered his Budget Statement in Parliament on 18 February. It was a budget that addresses immediate concerns, yet is also far- sighted. We have to respond to challenges in the new decade, against a backdrop of COVID-19 outbreak, as well as global structural shifts, economic uncertainties and strategic tensions, and yet also ask what kind of Singapore we want to have in the decades to come. From tomorrow till next week, the Parliament will sit as a Committee of Supply, and examine the various ministries’ plans. This rigorous process is necessary to ensure that the budget addresses Singapore’s current and future needs, while remaining fiscally sustainable – a sacrosanct principle which has served us well. Before the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) presents our plans for the year to the Committee of Supply, I thought I would share what we had achieved last year. We Moved FAST Singapore is a small country, with small population and land area. As our Founding Father Mr Lee Kuan Yew said, “for Singapore to survive and prosper, we need to be relevant and useful to the world”. To maintain relevance, we need to be nimble and adapt to the constantly changing world. The same applies to our legal industry. We are small, with only about 1,000 law firms and 7,000 lawyers; the world’s largest law firm has more lawyers than all of Singapore! To carve out a niche for 1 ourselves in the world, we need to adapt, and adapt fast, to the evolving legal landscape – shifting client expectations, alternative legal service providers, legal technology.

5,000 overseas Singaporeans pay tribute to our founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew at Singapore Day 2015 On 11 April, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu joined about 5,000 Singaporeans in Century Park, Shanghai for Singapore Day 2015. The event was an emotional reunion for Singaporeans in China who paid tribute to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his contributions to Singapore. It was also an occasion for our overseas Singaporean to mark our nation's achievements over the past 50 years and look forward to the future. "I am heartened to see how our overseas Singaporeans, here in China and around the world, have rallied together to pay tribute to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, our founding Prime Minister. More than 5,400 overseas Singaporeans came together to hold heartfelt memorial events in 36 cities. Mr Lee's passing has brought us all closer together as a nation. Let us hold fast to this spirit of unity and resilience as we work together to build on Mr Lee's legacy", said Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean. DPM Teo also led all those present at the event to observe a minute of silence to the passing of Mr Lee. At the Remembering Lee Kuan Yew Marquee, attendees penned about 2,000 tribute messages, in memory of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. In a special concert, Singaporean artistes including Dick Lee, Tay Kewei, Li Weisong, Li Sisong and Rahimah Rahim gave tribute song performances.
