Head Coach

David Shuster is in his eighth season as the head golf coach at as many years. Assistant Coach

Jordan Jeffers begins his first season at HBU as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s golf programs. Jeffers is no stranger to HBU, as he competed on the 2009 Great West Conference championship team. He was also named GWC New- comer of the Year and finished as the individual runner-up at the con- ference championship. Prior to HBU, he was a PING All-American and two-time state finalist at Odessa College and had a standout career at Delhart High School. Jeffers earned his Bachelor of General Studies degree at West Texas A&M.

Dr. Robert B. Sloan Jr. is in his eighth year as President of Houston Baptist University, the third president in the school’s history. He came to HBU from Baylor University, where he served as both Chancellor and President. HBU has seen tremendous growth in Sloan’s first seven years as President. Enrollment has increased, building is happening all over campus and the Huskies have moved back to NCAA Division I. This is all part of Sloan’s vision to make HBU one of the premier Christian institutions in the country. Born in Coleman, Sloan grew up in Abilene before attending Baylor and earning a bachelor of arts degree cum laude, graduating “With Distinction.” In his freshman year, Sloan was a member of Baylor’s baseball team. He then earned a master of divinity degree magna cum laude from Princeton Theological Seminary before conducting post- baccalaureate research in church history at the University of Bristol, England, and earned the Doktor der Theologie degree insigni cum laude from the University of Basel, Switzerland. Before returning to Baylor to join the faculty of the Department of Religion, he taught at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and adjunctively at Hardin-Simmons University. He was the first to hold the position of chair of the George W. Truett School of Evangelism at Bay- lor and became founding Dean of Truett Seminary in 1993. Two years later, Sloan was named President of Baylor University. Ten years later, in 2005, Sloan was named Chancellor. While holding a full-time academic position, Sloan served as inter- im pastor of more than 20 churches throughout Texas and Oklahoma. He has also authored two books, edited several and published more than 50 articles during his career. Sloan has held memberships in many professional societies and learned organizations. He has held numerous civic positions in the Waco area and has served on the board of Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, the American Association of Presidents of In- dependent Colleges and Universities, the Big 12 Athletic Conference Board of Directors, and the Group of 6 (six major athletic conferences). He was inducted into the Little League Hall of Excellence in 1996. Scott Tarrant is in his seventh year at HBU, but is in his second year as di- rector of ticketing and promotions. He is responsible for the ticketing of all Huskies athletic events, in-game entertainment, as well as Husky Sports Network broadcasts. Tarrant came to HBU after more than 10 years with the McLane Group, serving as sales manager for Astrodome USA, special assistant to the chairman of the Houston Astros and director of sales for Classic Foods. Along with current HBU director of athletics Steve Moniaci, Tarrant helped implement and develop the Minute Maid College Baseball Classic, which has matched the nation’s top programs in a professional environ- ment for the past 12 years. Tarrant was also instrumental in bringing the first NCAA Super Regional to a professional facility when Rice hosted Southwestern Louisiana at the Astrodome in 1999.

A native of Osceola, Pa., Kohut attended California University of Penn- sylvania, earning a bachelor of science degree in athletic training in 2008. She also served as an athletic training student, gaining experience with several sports. She earned a master of education degree in allied health education and administration from the University of Houston in 2010. Kohut is a certified and licensed athletic trainer and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. She is also a member of the South- western Athletic Trainers’ Association and has obtained National Academy of Sports Medicine Performance Enhancement Specialist Certification.

In Feb. 2012, HBU aquired the Bradshaw Fitness Center (BFC), which has been an in- stant boost to student life on campus. The fitness center is available for use at no extra cost to HBU students. The facility offers car- dio equipment, machine and free weights, a lap pool, hot tubs, saunas, a basketball court, racquetball courts, a running track, and locker rooms.

Golf, 1983-85 50 2014-15 HBU HUSKIES GOLF Colin Montgomerie “MONTY”: HBU LEGEND Colin Montgomerie solidified himself as the most recognizeable figure in HBU athletics as he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013. He played golf for the Huskies from 1983-87, earning All-America hon- ors in 1986 and 1987, Trans America Athletic All-Conference honors in 1985, 1986 and 1987, and TAAC Player of the Year in 1985. He led the Huskies to the TAAC team championship in 1984, 1985 and 1986, and won the 1985 TAAC individual title with a tournament-record score of 11-under par 205. HBU made three-straight NCAA Championship appearances with Montgomerie from 1985-87. After his collegiate career at HBU, Montgomerie became a professional on the European Tour in 1987 and was named the 1988 Sir Henry Cot- ton Rookie of the Year. He then went on to win a record eight European Tour Order of Merit titles from, seven-straight from 1993-99, then again in 2005. Montgomerie earned European Tour Player of the Year honors in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999. He was named Order of the British Empire officer in 2005. The Glasgow, Scotland, native had a distinguished career as a member of eight European Ryder Cup teams, compiling a 20-9-7 record and never losing a singles a match. His 23.5 points in Ryder Cup play rank third, only 1.5 points behind the all-time leader. Montgomerie was named captain of the European squad for 2010 and led them to a 14.5-13.5 victory at Celtic Manor in Newport, South Wales. After recording 45 total victories on tour, which included 31 wins on the European Tour, Montgomerie has posted five victories on the Champions Tour and European Seniors Tour. In 2014, he captured a pair of major titles, winning the Senior PGA Championship by four strokes over Tom Watson and the U.S. Senior Open in a playoff. In his victory at the Travis Perkins Masters in August 2014, former HBU teammate Tim Thelen finished as the runner- up.
