BLUE JACKETS NOTES BATTLE ROYALE Columbus scored three unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0 early to beat the Kings 4-2 on Monday to pick up points for the 13th time in its last 14 contests (9-1-4). The Blue Jackets improved to 7-0-0 this season in Monday matchups (4-0-0 on the road). The club boasts an NHL-leading 22 points since Dec. 9 with the points in 13 of the past 14. Columbus (48 pts) is now just one point shy of Florida (49 pts) for the second wildcard spot (FLA game in hand).

THE ROAD OUT WEST The Blue Jackets continue their four-game road trip with Anaheim tonight, the second contest of a back-to-back. The Blue Jackets swept their most recent back-to-back with wins over Washington and Detroit on Dec. 16-17 and are 2-3-1 in the second game of back- to-backs this season. Columbus continued its road game point streak with the win over Los Angeles last night, pushing their away run to eight games (5-0-3), tied for the third-longest in franchise history (6-0-2; Jan. 15-Feb. 18, 2011). The Blue Jackets’ trip through the Pacific Division includes San Jose on Thursday and concludes at Vegas on Saturday.

COVERING THE CREASE Much of the credit for the Blue Jackets’ recent success can be attributed to the team’s ability to keep the puck out of the net. Over the last 14 games, CBJ have allowed just 26 goals, with their 1.86 GA/GP tops in the NHL. The club’s success in the goaltending department can be stretched back to Nov. 1, with the Blue Jackets’ 2.35 GA/GP ranking second in the league (73 GA in 31 GP) to help the club sit sixth-T overall on the season (2.70).

HEY NOW, YOU’RE ALL-STARS The NHL named its All-Star teams on Dec. 29 and the Metropolitan Division featured a pair of Jackets in defenseman Seth Jones and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. It marks the fourth-straight All-Star selection for Jones, who ranks sixth in the NHL in TOI this season (25:22) and is tied for the team lead in assists (20) while being second in points among defensemen (24). The selection is Korpisalo’s first of his NHL career. He is sixth-T in the NHL in games played (32) and eighth in wins (17) despite missing the past four games due to injury. It marks the third time in the past four seasons (2017, 2019, 2020) that the club has had multiple players selected to the NHL All-Star Game.

OH-MY-ZACH Zach Werenski picked up an assist on Monday at the Kings for his sixth point in his last four games (5-1-6). The Blue Jackets defenseman was named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5 after he led the league with five goals, including a hat trick against Florida on Dec. 31. Since Nov. 9, he’s just one of four NHL defensemen to have played at a point-per-game pace, going 10-10-20 over 20 games. The Jackets’ all-time leading goal scorer from the blueline (51 career goals) has 13 goals on the season, tied for second in the NHL among rearguards.

DON’T DOUBT DUBOIS Pierre-Luc Dubois had a pair of assists in last night’s win over Los Angeles for his sixth multi-point game of the season. The Blue Jackets center leads the team in goals (14) and points (30, tied). He leads the team in points since Dec. 14 with 4-8-12 over his last 12 contests. Three of his last four goals have been game winners, with his 14 goals this season the fourth-most among NHL players 21- years-old or younger. He scored the lone Blue Jackets’ goal on Oct. 11 vs. Anaheim and has 3-2-5 in five career games vs. the Ducks.

ELVIS ELEVATING HIS PLAY Merzlikins earned his third win in his last four starts with a 35-save performance vs. the Kings last night. The Blue Jackets rookie goaltender has stepped up since being relied on to take the bulk of the starts with Joonas Korpisalo’s injury. Merzlikins has allowed two goals or less three of the four outings. Since Dec. 31, his three wins are tied for first in the NHL, while ranking fourth with a 1.76 GAA and .945 SV pct. (min. 2 GP).
