OFF TO 3-1-0 START, AVS HOST DUCKS TONIGHT BEFORE HEADING TO DALLAS TO FACE STARS TOMORROW The Colorado Avalanche takes on the Anaheim Ducks to close out a two-game homestand. This evening's contest is the first half of a back-to-back for the Avs, who will face the Stars tomorrow night in Dallas. The Avs opened this homestand with a 6-3 victory over the Bruins on Wednesday. The Avs began the season with a three-game road trip, finishing 2-1-0. The last time the Avalanche opened a season with three straight on the road was back in 2000-01, when they began the year with a four-game road trip.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR The 3-1-0 Avs are looking to win four of their first five games for the first time since 2013-14 (5-0-0). In 21 previous seasons since moving to Denver, Colorado has started 4-1-0 or better only three times and has gained eight or more points through five games on only four occasions.

Semyon Varlamov posted a 3-0 record in three starts with a 1.50 GAA and .948 save percentage, placing him among the top 10 netminders in both categories. SWEDEN BOUND The Avalanche’s 2017-18 schedule is highlighted by the 2017 SAP NHL Global Series, which features a pair of regular-season games against the in Stockholm, Sweden, on Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11. Colorado is making its second trip to Europe and its international regular-season debut. The Avs were part of the 2001 NHL Challenge Series, and as defending champions defeated Brynas IF of the Swedish Elite League by a score of 5-3 thanks to Alex Tanguay’s hat trick. Colorado has four Swedish players on its current roster, Gabriel Landeskog (Stockholm), Anton Lindholm (Skelleftea), Patrik Nemeth (Stockholm) and Carl Soderberg (Malmo).

SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN Colorado will play 26 games against its Central Division rivals (13 home/away) after playing 30 games within the division last year. The Avs will face Dallas and St. Louis five times each, while meeting , Minnesota, Nashville and Winnipeg four times apiece. The Avs will play 24 games against Pacific Division teams, meeting each of the eight opponents three times (12 home/away). Colorado will have 32 total games against teams from the Eastern Conference, facing all 16 clubs twice (once at home).

MORE SCHEDULE NOTES The Avalanche’s longest homestand this season is six games from Dec. 27 to Jan. 6, which is the club’s longest home stay since 2013- 14 (seven). The Avs’ longest road trip is six games from Jan. 22 to Feb. 3, but the team will return home in the middle of that journey for the All-Star break. The Avs will host a New Year’s Eve game for the fifth straight year, as they welcome the New York Islanders on Dec. 31. Colorado’s schedule features 19 "weekend" games at Pepsi Center, including six on Friday, eight on Saturday and five on Sunday.

HOW YOU 'DRAW' IT UP Colorado finished second in the league in faceoff percentage last season at 53.6%, trailing only Anaheim (54.7). That 53.6 percent success rate was the highest in Avalanche history, topping the 51.6% clip set by the 2011-12 squad. The Avs ranked first in offensive zone faceoff percentage (56.3%) and were among the top five in both the defensive zone (2nd-52.0%) and neutral zone (5th-52.6%).

Matt Duchene led the NHL in faceoff percentage at 62.6%, shattering the single-season Avalanche record set by Andrei Nikolishin (58.1) in 2003-04. It was the fifth-highest percentage since the NHL began tracking faceoffs in 1998-99 (see below).
