Marketing Management Effectiveness of Product Placement in Hindi Movies (Topic related to Advertising media) Prof. Smita.V Harwani SIPNA college of Engg. and Tech. Amravati. Ph: (0721) 2522341, 2522342, 2522343 Abstract Media planners and brand marketers are looking for alternative media vehicles to reach at customers with a distinct message so that the memorability of the message increases and hence the brand name is popularised. A product placement is the inclusion of a product, package, signage, a brand name or the name of the firm in a movie or in a television programme for increasing memorability of the brand and instant recognition at the point of purchase. Placements can be in form of verbal mentions in dialogue, actual use by character, visual displays such as corporate logo on a vehicle or billboard, brands used as set decorations, or even snatches of actual radio or television commercials. This is a growing trend in Indian films for various reasons. This paper highlights the basic reasons for placing products and brands in films with special reference to hindi films and the effectiveness of these placements as a tool for enhancing the recall value of the brands in the long run. The paper proposes a category of placements that can be used by brand marketers to put their brands in the films and identifies the caveat for putting the brands in the films. This paper suggests about the modality and plot connections in bringing congruity in the presentation so that the brand placement does not look out of context. -

Cyclists and celebrity rally to raise awareness about MS 28 May 2013 | News | By BioSpectrum Bureau Cyclists and celebrity rally to raise awareness about MS To commemorate World Multiple Sclerosis Day, a 20 km long bicycle rally was organized by Mumbai Chapter of Multiple Sclerosis Society of India in association with Bandra Cycle Club. Carrying flags and dressed in orange, the rally which started early morning from Lucky Bandra to Worli Sea Face and back witnessed hundreds of people cheering alongside members of civil society to voice their concern and support for MS patients. Celebrities included MS Good Will Ambassador Mr Milind Soman and MTV Roadies Judge Mr Raghu Ram who led the rally from the front. According to Ms Sheela Chitnis, chairperson, MSSI Mumbai Chapter, "The event is more than a ride-it's motivation, solidarity, personal accomplishment, and the knowledge that we can make a difference in the life of youth, imparting them with the promise of a better, healthier future." Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an auto-immune disease in which the body attacks its own cells and tissues. Due to damage in the nerve layer i.e. myelin sheath, transmission of signals from the brain and spinal cord gets affected. The most common symptoms are weakness in the limbs, numbness, sudden loss of balance, blurred vision that may lead to paralysis. The disease mostly strikes youth at a time when are starting new careers, relationships or making plans for the future. Dr Arun B Shah, consultant, neurologist, Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai said, "There has been a steady increase in the number of neurological diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis in recent times. -

The percentage of women film makers, in the industry, is a mere 9.1%. Despite this, the films directed by women have compelled audiences to take notice, because of the wide spectrum of issues they have touched upon. Three women directors, whose movies have left an indelible mark on the audiences, include Tanuja Chandra, Meghna Gulzar and Gauri Shinde. This paper analyses the work of these three women directors, for the uniqueness of their themes and the characters they have sketched, and attempts to find out, what has led to their films being etched deeply, into the consciousness of their audience. This will be analysed against the backdrop of the realities of the society from which these films emerge, and as a reflection of the gender dynamics existing in Indian society.
