Archery Association of India R E P O R T of the Secretary ARCHERY ASSOCIATION OF INDIA R E P O R T OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL for the period 10th March 2007 to 16th February, 2008 Dear Colleagues It is a real pleasure as Secretary General, Archery Association of India in welcoming you all to this meeting. I feel privilege to present my Report on the activities of AAI for the intervening period between the last General Council Meeting and this one. I am delighted to look back at the activities of 2007 since what a year it has been. Over the past year, we have collectively made great progress in the development of Indian Archery, and I am proud of the remarkable outcomes achieved in 2007, at both National and International level competitions. Sow.Dola Banerjee deserves to be singled out for their individual contributions to this year’s successes and I am tempted to state the year 2007 can aptly be described as the “Princess of Kolkata – Dola’s Year” in terms of achievements attained during intervening period. Learning with the average individual performance in the first half of year, our ace archer, Dola turned back in the game with great enthusiasm and mental stiffness and converted the ending of year in her favour. Her stunning victory at 4th Stage of the World Cup-Dover over China’s Ms.Zhang Juan Juan of China made a clear path to World Cup Final at Dubai. She was the best scorer among women team to bag another Bronze Medal in Team event at Dover. In World Cup Grand Finale, it was a great battle ensued between Dola Banerjee and Ms.Eun Young Choi of South Korea on a 70-meter floating platform at the Madinat Jumeirah Souk venue where she occupied the top slot on the podium winning the “Recurve Women’s World Cup Title” defeating second seeded, South Korean, Ms. Eun Young Choi (110 Vs 109) in a very tight nail-biting match. A unique achievement for Indian Archery was the “TEAM GOLD MEDAL” winning performance of our Mens Recurve Team – S/Shri.Jayanta Talukdar, Mangal Singh Champia, Rahul Banerjee, Adonda Raju at the Asian Championship – China after a gap of long 12 years. The Women Recurve Team comprising Sow.Dola Banerjee, Sow.Chekrovolu Swuro, Sow.L.Bombayla Devi and Sow.Punya Prabha bagged Team Bronze Medal in China. Our Women Compound Team, Sow.Jhanu Hansdah, Sow.Bheigyabati Chanu, Sow.Manjudha Soy & Sow.Ashrita Kerketta Shri. Mangal Singh Champia in Recurve Men and Sow.Jhanu Hansdah in Compound Women succeeded to win Individual Bronze Medals. Indian Women’s team comprising Sow.Dola Banerjee, Sow.Chekrovolu Swuro and Sow.L.Bombayla Devi qualified for the Beijing –Olympics –2008 placing 6th at the 44th World Championship – Germany. Shri.Mangal Singh Champia also confirmed his individual berth for Beijing Olympics based on his terrific show at Asian continental tournament in China. Upon reviewing the year 2007, it is clear that it has been a year of many achievements for the AAI. In particular, I believe that ongoing AAI development programs will go a long way towards promoting activities in lesser-developed programs State/Units while enhancing the stature of Indian Archery as whole. I hereunder mention the activities of AAI for the year 2007 and I do hope you enjoy reading this report:- ..…..2/- ::2:: International Tournaments: The details of International Tournaments in which Indian Archers took part are as follows :- a) 1st FITA Meteksan Archery World Cup - 2007 Tournament A nineteen-member Indian Archery team took part in the 1st FITA Mateksan Archery World Cup-2007 held at Ulsan (Korea) from 1st to 4th April 2007. Resigned Urbanization: Migration, Dwelling, and Freedom in Contemporary China Tzu-Chi Ou Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2018 © 2018 Tzu-Chi Ou All rights reserved ABSTRACT Resigned Urbanization: Migration, Dwelling, and Freedom in Contemporary China Tzu-Chi Ou In the media, rural migrants are often seen as a homogeneous social group, displaced from hometowns, economically marginalized, and deprived of urban citizenship. Anything but freedom characterizes their subjectivities. In recent years, however, migrant workers have played a leading role in urbanizing small towns and cities. My two-year ethnographic research closely documents the phenomenon of “double dwelling,” in which rural migrants settle into the rental housing of Beijing’s urban villages, on the one hand, but own empty houses in rural villages and counties, on the other. I employ the idea of dwelling to conceptualize the interrelationship between identity and place as well as existence and space. Rather than being static, floating, or unfinished, double dwelling is dynamic, restricted by the household registration (hukou) division but also continually remaking the rural-urban divide. It is rooted in various sites, neither here nor there but always here and there. Migrant workers create and search for the nature of dwelling. To doubly dwell is to build and rebuild identities and existence. The dissertation engages with the study of class politics by reconsidering the role of housing in class formation. On the one hand, home-making practices bring new opportunities to migrant workers. While in Beijing, the housing conditions of migrant workers suggest a common ground on which a new social class of migrant tenants may form.
