He played his high school football at Kamehameha and went on to play for the University of Washington where he was a standout player. Coach Ikaika came from UTEP where he was responsible for the defensive line and defensive tackles for 4 seasons. Prior to UTEP, he coached for 2 years at Western Illinois, coaching the defensive line and overseeing the strength and conditioning program. Coach Ikaika started his coaching career at his alum, UW, as a student assistant and worked with the inside and outside linebackers and continued on as program coordinator and handled recruiting evaluations and computer breakdowns for the defense and special teams. As a student, while attending UW, he played free safety, strong safety and outside linebacker and was also on special teams. He was recognized as the hardest hitter on the "Huskies" and was the recipient of the Bob Jarvis Award as the team's most inspirational Player. As a junior, he led the team with 6 interceptions.
