Hindi Bestseller List Announced at Jaipur Literature Festival by : INVC Team Published on : 26 Jan, 2018 12:00 AM IST Hindi Bestseller list announced at Jaipur Literature Festival By : INVC Team Published On : 26 Jan, 2018 12:00 AM IST INVC NEWS Jaipur , The Hindi bestsellers list for Q3 October –December 2017 was released by Namita Gokhale – eminent author and co-director Jaipur Literature Festival ,Sanjoy Roy – MD, Teamwork Arts and Producer Jaipur Literature and Vishnu Tripathi, senior editor, Jagran Prakashan Group, today at 11th Zee Jaipur Literature Festival which starts from today in pink city Jaipur. Dainik Jagran Nielsen Bookscan Bestseller list released in three categories Fiction , Non-Fiction and Translation . This was followed by a discussion on the impact of Dainik Jagran Hindi Bestseller list on the literary community. The panel included Alka Saraogi , Chitra Mudgal and Anant Vijay. Writer Writer Chitra Mudgal said "The Hindi bestseller list is going to be explaining what kind of readers are interested in the present time and its will not have any impact on serious literature.” Writer Alka Saraogi said, "I am happy that this bestseller includes books of some famous writers." In this third trimester, in adult fiction category young writer Satya Vyas 'Banaras Talkies’ ,adult non fiction category, Writer Narendra Kohli ' Vyangya Samay and in translation writer Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's book 'Draupadi Ki Mahabharat' crown the lists. Apart from these, writer and lyricist Gulzar’s book ‘Do Log’ lyricist Javed Akhtar’s Lava, Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar autobiography ‘Sachin Tendulkar-Meri Aatmkatha’ actress Twinkle Khanna’s ‘Mrs.Funnybones’ and Amish Tripathi's four books ‘Sita Mithila ki Yoddha’ ‘Nagaon Ka Rahasya’ ("The Secret of the Nagas") "Vayuputron Ki Shapath" ("The Oath of The Vayuputras"), "Ikshvaku Ke Vanshaj", ("Scion of Ikshvaku") and Devdutt Pattanaik ‘Meri Sita’ in the list. Vishnu Tripathi, senior editor of Jagran Prakashan Goup said, "Hindi is not a survey of best sellers, it is a kind of study that increases the tendency of readers to read.” The bestseller not only includes popular Hindi writers and books but some popular English authors too who have won over Hindi readers, as seen in the translation category. World renowned Neilsen BookScan is instrumental in the selection process of the Hindi Bestseller list.Also the list includes those books whose first version was published on and after January 1, 2011 and which has 13 digit valid ISBN numbers. Dainik Jagran Hindi Bestseller is the first initiative of its kind, bringing in the Best Seller list in Hindi. In Indian culture, there are two powerful works that talks of varied aspects of politics- The Mahabharat and The Ramayan. Writers have always been fascinated by these two great works of India. They have tried to analyze mythology in various ways. The present paper focuses on the political and cultural discourse emerging in Amish Tripathi’s Scion of IKSVAKU. Amish has knack of reinterpreting mythology in reference to the current socio-political scenario. He does the same in Scion of IKSVAKU and brings in many political and cultural issues discussed in the course of a very well-known story of The Ramayan. Key words: Mythology, Indian English Literature, Amish Tripathi, Politics, Cultural Discourse Amish Tripathi is an Indian English author who won accolades for his ‘Shiva Triology’. He has been a best seller with his The Immortals of Meluha and other two books – The Secret of Nagas and The Oath of the Vayuputras. Amish was born on 18th October 1974. He studied at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and IIM Kolkata. He had received several awards as a young literary writer. The Shiva trilogy is a fantasy and reimagining of Lord Shiva and his adventures. Amish calls himself a devotee of Lord Shiva but his religious beliefs are liberal and secular.

The myths connect the modern men with the ancients. The myths have the same concept in all the languages and it has a protagonist and a villain. A man who did the good things to the people presented as Vishu or God and the man who did bad things to the human portrayed as the demon or Asura. The Vedic literature argues that each and every soul bears the good characters and a man can be forgivable if he surrenders himself totally to the Gods. If Vedic literature is right then Raavan would have been portrayed as the good man because he surrendered himself to Lord Shiva. The valour of Raava revealed when he defeated the king of Saptha Sindhu, Dashrath even the seventh Vishnu Rama found difficult to defeat Raavan. Valmiki presented Ram as Vishnu even though he was weaker than Raavan. Ram was saved three times by Lakshman. Amish Tripathi has portrayed Raavan as the strongest man than Lord Ram. Further, he presented Ram had born when Raavan had defeated the armies of his father. The armies of Dhasrath won all the dynasties of India by his immense power but being an ordinary man in Dhasrath’s dynasty Raavan won the armies of unconquerable Dhasrath.
